Ventilation is one if the biggest challenges when sleeping in a vehicle. These SUPER simple and very affordable do it yourself window vents not only help provide ventilation but the keep the annoying bugs out of the car as well. Weather you are car camping, car living, overlanding or enjoying the van life these vents can make all the difference in sleeping comfortably!
I couple these vents with this awesome little rechargeable fan and the results were fantastic! -pun intended

I had someone point out that you could also use hot glue to reattach the screen material. I think that would probably work even better than the soldering iron, but you can use what you got 👍

Gorilla glue I mean

Justin Fisher I’m sure it’d work, gorilla glue is kinda messy I think though.

Donnie Dispersed yeah your right. I have a Dodge Grand Caravan and would love to figure out some type of screen situation for the back wing windows

Awesome Video! I love outside of the box thinking. Very clever idea, keeping things simple is my favorite theme. Thank you for sharing your idea. I see quite a few people commenting on other options besides the soldiering iron technique. There's more ways than one to skin a cat. So use whatever you have available, is my opinion. Glue will work, tape will work just as well, staples, the options are limitless. Since this is even being shoved in to the door gasket. Technically, you don't even need to do anything because the door gasket itself will keep it all mashed together. If you like the soldiering option and don't have one. A lighter and a screwdriver will work just as well. Heat the tip of the screwdriver or any sort of metal object with the lighter, it will get hot enough to do what the soldering iron did here. I would also suggest using a screen mesh material called No-See-Um netting. It is just like the screen on house windows, just with much smaller holes to block out the really tiny insects.

Really clever solution. I LOVE finding materials designed for other purposes that I can put to DIY use like this. Very well explained in the video as well, nice work.

This is a great tip. I made a couple and it works perfectly in my 2020 4Runner. I ended up using the entire height of it so I didn’t have to hold glue/melt the top edge.

Great job thinking out of the box. I use weather tech blackout sunshades throughout my Outback. Challenging to get ventilation with those. I’m going to try these gutter guards. I have a few in my garage. Thanks for the tip.

Hey I came across your vids from another one featuring your Subaru camper, dope work man! I just got a 2002 bugeye wagon and I plan to do alot more camping and traveling and I was looking for ideas from some fellow Subi Bros lol. I wanted to share this with you cuz when I saw this video it reminded me of a window shade that I saw on Amazon a while back that's like $13... it's pretty much a thin black mosquito net type sock that goes over your door frame allowing you to open and close your window while keeping everything else out. I know it may not apply to your car but maybe someone who sees it will give it a try, anyways man take care and happy adventures. here's the link Cozybiub Premium 2 Pack Side Car Window Shade Protects Baby,Kids,Pets,Fits Small Medium and SUVS (Black, L)

I ve had no vondensation ,and I live in my mini van. I sleep in my drivers seat. I think because I usually get out of the front sest open the door to take a pee ,twice a night. Almost every two hours and i wake for the day usually around 3-4:30 am

if you had a window frame, would you just cover the whole window with screen? In general, what are some downsides of covering the whole window? Does it pretty much come down to attachment points being limited / nonexistent? Thanks for the great idea!

Could O solder another gutter gaurd onto the bottowm of the first one, like a double decker. So I can open the window wider?

Great idea. What happens with these in the rain? I'm not much of a fan of waking up with rain falling in my face because I left the window open for ventilation, but so far my only remedy has been heavy duty aluminum foil, but that isn't too great if there is any wind.

Home Depot or Lowe’s. For me it was about 50 cents cheaper at Lowe’s and they had brown or white.

Wish they had these for 5 feet by 3 feet. Or just bigger sizes in general. Does anyone know where I can get these in big sheets?
@ChristopherSchiffermiller
@ChristopherSchiffermiller 4 года назад
Thanks for the video and great idea, as I saw a vid the other day of a guy who did the same thing, but with metal gutter guard. He didnt have to cut his, as the 3 ft was a good fit. I may have to cut mine, as I have a toyota sienna van with large windows and curves. Deciding between screen with magnets, stretchy mesh covers or like you did. Do you get a good enough air flow to cool you while you sleep with those vents you made or do you need the fan running to pull the cool air in? Looking to do something very soon and order some things. Thanks for any help, Chris.
@DonnieDispersed
@DonnieDispersed 4 года назад
Christopher Schiffermiller If there’s a breeze outside then they work fine on their own. But the fan definitely helps.

@@DonnieDispersed Thanks Donnie, appreciated and im leaning towards this as it looks simple and easy for all I need and saw a few other vids of people who did it. Thanks, Chris
@ChristopherSchiffermiller
@ChristopherSchiffermiller 4 года назад
@@DonnieDispersed Oh, I was also thinking that you could double up the screens for a more expanded air flow and bug protector when you want to sit or sleep. Like the 2nd gutter guard should slip right into the other and you have a two tier system for when you want more flow. Did you happen to play around with that idea and would they fit easily as it seems they would? Thanks
@DonnieDispersed
@DonnieDispersed 4 года назад
Christopher Schiffermiller the groove that fits over the window is quite a bit bigger than the plastic cover and screen part. They wouldn’t hold onto each other well. But maybe if your door window has a frame you could roll up the window to pinch two pieces together between the glass and the door frame and that would hold them in place.
@ChristopherSchiffermiller
@ChristopherSchiffermiller 4 года назад
@@DonnieDispersed Yes, I figured I might have to use vice grips to squeeze them together or come up with a easy way to insert them and make them sturdy. I will play around with it when I get them here and see what works. I will let you know.
