UPDATE - I noted in this video that HandyGCCS was made by the lead dev for Manjaro, from the dev forum it actually just links to his fork. HandyGCCS is from ChimeraOS (❤) team
@@X862go they will sell out, but who cares about the 16gb one get a 32gb one, this is a saving grace and one of the only reasons to get something other than a deck in linux handhelds
One minor correction. HandyGCCS is my project, going back multiple years to the AYANEO 2021. Phil has a fork of it where we were working on the OrangePi integration before it was publicly announced, through various iterations of the hardware and firmware. We should be close to the final firmware and all that will be cleaned up for merging back into main soon.
@@ThePhawx definitly man. The funy thing is more people have similar thumbnails, but the first time i watched your vid with the transition, it was really a cool moment and kind of "magical" by lack of better word. As if the thumbnail came to life. The videos themselves are great too of course. But enough compliments when is the next vid hahaha
I have auto-play on hover set on my RU-vid and you are the only one I have seen with thumbnail to auto-play effect. So creative. Keep it up with this amazing creativity!
Even on the Steam controller I find them too far down to use for long gaming sessions. It would be nice if someone did attachable controllers like Lenovo, but offered different placement options, and button options, and stuff. (I'd be happy to buy one with a better Dpad for the Steam Deck too. I wish more companies just used whatever components the PS Vita or Xbox "core controller" use...)
It’ll be interesting to see how these new 8840U handhelds compare to the 7840U, Phawx will be the first guy I will go to for the analysis, he’s been here day one for PC handhelds, no one does it better 👌
Honestly I got my steam deck last summer, it's the base 64gb model Honestly it works well enough in my opinion and I won't need to get something new for years hopefully
Same here! 64 gigs plus a 512 gig micro sd card is really all I've ever needed for my needs. Hopefully I'll be able to get one of those 1tb sd cards for my birthday tomorrow :3
Interesting. Based on Orange Pi's track record, I was expecting it to come without an OS installed, the images they provide to be broken and for users to rely on community images instead. This does look a lot better than that. However, it's still too expensive for me to take the gamble that the software will be fully featured and won't be abandoned way too quickly.
I'm kinda waiting for the win mini review but when you mentioned that there is not a big difference between AMD 7 and AMD 8 but im still waiting for the review to see what will be the difference and benefits.
if you see the gameplay tests the difference is about 5-8fps. that can make a lot of difference you go from 22fps to 30fps with that kind of difference
@@jakoick1298yes the 5-8 fps boost is a lot but in the previous video as the other reviews mention the power consumption for each device is make a lot of difference like the 6800u compare to steam deck and 7800 the tdp is wrong that is why the other devices get a higher fps. That's why I didn't purchase the 7800 series because of the different power distribution.
I doubt that it's gonna be the steam deck killer more like a competitor at this point, it's just that ease of use that steam deck gives has it leagues of it's own since a few or some games have specific fixes for the deck itself
Could be intriguing using monjaro but i think this will only appeal to the curious market and not much else, especially for $500. Considering that the rog ally can be found for $400 these days i don't think this one has a fighting chance... I think the sweet spot for handhelds is $300 or less if they want to stand a chance to get some of the steam deck's pie. (Spare me the logistics)...with handhelds coming out every few months these days they're going to need a little something more to justify the high price tag if it's over $400.
If both chips have the 780m igpu just go with the 7840u version. It's the same preformance as the ayaneo current releases, pretty much the same as the z1 extreme in the ally and legion go. All of those are more than capable. And at $500 you can't beat that with a stick. It's not worth bumping up to the 8000 apu.
Hey, I have a question. What am I not understanding about cooler/board design because I dont see why you wouldnt want to center the cooler on the device so one side doesnt get warmer than the other? I can see doing so to make space for the battery in devices of this form factor, but like the Win Max 2 has an off-center cooler and the battery is under the keyboard
If you plan to install windows on a linux dedicated handheld, why don't you just get an aya neon device. A manjaro dedicated device might be the Best idea to have a dedicated LinuxOS insted
So basically Manjaro is working on a handheld only distribution that uses all open source stuff and combines them togather in one download wow no one has done that before and all this available for more than a steam deck this is gonna fly off the shelves
For me, the steam deck is the LAST 16:10 pc handheld i will ever buy. Love my deck but hate how it normalized that aspect ratio in all gaming laptops and handhelds.
Why? I like the extra space on the top and the bottom and it's often good for emulation. Even if you run your game at 720p you can have the fps or batt up on the black bar
@rbdunne because I use my deck like a switch and often plug it and unplug it from my TV and it is annoying to have to close every game before plugging it into the TV then re open them, and even then it requires going into the settings and manually changing the aspect ratio a decent amount of the time. And a decent amount of games just don't support 16:10 at all. also I would use it to plug into my TV to play downloaded movies in desktop mode if it was 16:9, I wouldn't have a problem with it if I used it only in handheld but any device that is within its expected use case to plug into a TV should just be 16:9 for ease. You could see it as extra screen on top and bottom, or you could view it as less screen on left and right, it's really the same amount of screen either way.
Rog Ally z1 extreme is 600usd or 500usd for best buy open box. The others need to drop price. This new handheld seems nice if you can get a 32gb 8840u 1tb for 600usd and put win 11 on it easy
people always look at the price of the lowest model. but when the Ally debuted it had a better screen. better processor. and was only $50 more than the 512 Deck. the non extreme was less. and i think its processor is on par with the Deck's.
nah, these things are probably just cheaper to produce than you think, I knew valve was making a profit, the dog ally makes a profit even at £549. Also no windows licence.
Not my fault most of the Chinese handhelds are poorly constructed, Chinese businesses can make something decent when they try but they don’t always choose to. Lenovo is more of an international company. "Lenovo's principal facilities are in Beijing, Singapore, and Morrisville, North Carolina, United States, with research centres in Beijing, Singapore, Morrisville, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Chengdu, Nanjing, Wuhan and Yamato (Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan)."
@@protocetidThere are tons of crappy companies in the US too. Just admit that you were expressing a bit of racial bias, and we can move on. It doesn't mean you're a bad person (I mean you might be..I don't know), but we all have biases. The only reason there are more Chinese companies doing anything is because there are more Chinese people than any other country. There are good, bad and in between quality of products produced there, just like anywhere else. And honestly, trying to extract Lenovo from China just because it doesn't fit your narrative is weak AF.
@@notepadplusplus4923 Right? These Chinese PC companies are fighting it out for a very small piece of the market with no game libraries to generate additional revenue. Valve is the Gold Standard. Asus is big enough to compete and at least offers vague product support services. The Chinese handheld companies just don't have a critical mass to compete effectively. Users DON'T want to buy a handheld from one of these off-shore companies only to find they just released a new bloody model a month later.
Terrible company with zero support and poor software, so it is a good job that somebody else is running that side. They won't ever get any of my money again though, no matter what they out out.
