We're braving the cold winter in Maine to bring you a 1984 Nauticat 33 Ketch-rigged Motor Sailer sailboat for sale. This sailboat just had a full survey done on her with suggested repairs totaling $23,000USD... which will be very helpful for the next owner (and also during negotiation). This episode includes a full breakdown of the work that would be required to make her sparkly.

Long time watcher first time commenter. I bought a 1985 Nauticat 33 in 2017. Grew up sailing in Hawaii and the pacific. lived in California for 20 years but now I’m living in Vermont. I was feeling somewhat landlocked and really wanted to get out on the water. I found a one owner Nauticat 33 in excellent shape and brought it down to VT from Quebec City. I am in love with the pilot house. The boat is tough, capable and a great performer for it’s size. Its like a tardis, bigger on the inside. It had been completely redone from the deck down when I bought it and I have enjoyed it so much that I have it back up in Quebec this winter getting all new rigging, navigation and safety systems. Taking it out the ST Lawrence to the south coast of Newfoundland in the spring and down to Portland Maine. I’m excited to see what it can do on a larger body of water. There is an active community of Nauticat devotees in Europe and the 33 seems to thrive in the North and Baltic seas as well as the English Channel and the bay of Biscay. I am thinking it will feel right at home on the western side of the Atlantic. Making my lists, checking them twice and getting very excited for a spring sail.

Be still my heart. Captain Q has returned and with no less than a Nauticat. Have I died and gone to heaven? For myself this reminds me of a Fisher except for the stancheons vs gunwhale prortection. If I had a North Atlantic passage to make, both boats would be in my wheelhouse so to speak. Just as you said fireplace I was wondering if you could read minds as well. There is a Canadian outfit that makes wall mounted ones, around 11"" by 10 which would do a wonderful job here as an add on. I love the layout of this boat and no gentleman sails to windward anyways. Yes it is old school but what a school. A retired couple could make this a wonderful home without a heart attack. 63 degrees and sunny in Indiana today so it shocks me winter is still hovering over New England. I do go on but this whole episode has been the best of them all. All that's left is for Ran Day's neighbor to offer a tour of the Hans Christian and I can say my life was complete. Love you guys and long may the channel forage forward. Fair winds and following seas.

Happy to see a Nauticat 33. Very close friends of my parents, almost family actualy, had one and I know this model quite well. A realy comfortable and well built boat. I suspect the sitting instalation at the exterior helm is an add-on and my parents' friends' nauticat33 had a teak deck. On the sailing subject I confirm, she's definitely not a thoroughbred 😁, she's a MOTOR-sailer, 70% motor, 30% sail but I enjoyed to be on her, even if for the "sailing emotions" the true sailboat of my parents had my preference.

Are the boatyard prices you mentioned regular for US? It seems rediculously (!) high comparing with Netherlands, where I live. 3k for hauling out the boat and demasting, 1,5k to MOVE the boat indoors - that's 4,5k in total for getting the boat on land. I never thought it could be THAT costly anywhere in the world. I'd pay something at least 3-4 times less in Europe and at least 2 times less in UK.

Nice boat, it's a sailboat but if you need to get somewhere and there's no wind you can. I don't think I saw any interior varnish that needed to be fixed, I really liked that. With only $3,000 worth of parts needed and $18,000 worth of labor I'm thinking that a determined owner could make her seaworthy for a much more modest price than the boatyard wants. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

I really like the notion of a pilot house for sailing vessels. I wonder, though, many are described as motor sailers, which implies a larger engine (higher bhp/ton displacement) and larger fuel tanks. Captain, do you know of any pilot house sailboats that are not considered "motor sailers"? Glad to see you and Randay (or Randall or Randy, (I wish I knew which one he prefers)) doing more videos.

I think if I bought this boat, aside from the punch list of need be's, I would do something with the pilot house. It's got a lot of just empty, dull space. How bout get rid of the single seat on starboard side and put in that wood stove. Next, put in a pilot berth along the back wall...up high enough to avoid the companionway. Probably need smaller windows back there, but I think it would be worth the trade. Aloha 🤙

Didn't see a dinghy but most motor sailers have some means to lift one.. Beyond said repairs,,, how much to actually drop it in the water? Guessing survey approved the electronics.. (auto pilot, radios, safety equipment) Your Guess, double asking price!! How long on the hard before that first trip down the ICW to get the hell out of that 60 and below weather... (Can't see why boats are above South Carolina anyway..) But to get it to the Bahamas??

@@YachtHunters thought I read in the comments, that someone bought it. My question is kinda a general question, can a single person control a boat like this? Unfortunately my couple days ended, and a different dream has now entered my mind...

Does it have a bow thruster on not? You keep going back and forth between the boat you are presenting and the boat of which you have pictures. Side issue. The suggested repairs cost $23,000? WTF! A little clarity please.

Looks like no bow thruster. Based off the other views of the exterior in the video.

Bow thruster = side issue? 😅 Got to have a good look at Randay's walk up on each video so you can know the current boat from the other examples.

I enjoyed the survey information, but you need to be tougher on your opinionated appraisal, in order to give a more realistic picture of the boat. Somehow you got away from doing that.
