Several manufacturers have given him boots to tear apart. The worse the boot, the less the manufacturer will give him boots. Probably because the know all the corners they cut, and would rather not help in exposing it themselves. I personally own a pair of these very same boots, and they are indeed fantastic. He gave a good review, because they are fantastic. If you haven't, you should check out his cowboy boot series. You'll see for yourself what other companies are doing. Chisos is by far superior to all the boots he's previously dissected.

@@johnadams8338 totally agree with that. I made the switch away from western boots to heritage & PNW type for more support & comfort. I wear the #1 in roughout, and I bought them smaller than recommended so I could replace the comfortable insole with an insole I cut from cheap cow belly scrap leather. Even without the insoles, I find myself trying to keep them on when I go to bed. I am not talking about forgetting to take them off, I mean, I consciously consider leaving them on! Now, when I first bought them, the right foot was very tight, but after a good dry break-in period. I am happy to put these boots on every day. I chose Chisos because of the traditional build and loved the idea of having retired dairy cow leather instead of leather from another underutilized animal. One of the biggest selling points for me however, was the unique stitching that looked nothing like the ones found on the competition.

I actually bought and returned a pair of chisos. Mine started having heel separation 1st time i wore them out of the house, also had some nails that werent fully sunk in. Chisos to them back for repair then sent them back to me without fixing either issue. About 3 week turnaround. I reached back and they did do a return for them. Customer service was good, but not fixing the issue and wasting my time left a bad taste for me. I ended up going tecovas. Been happy with them.

I really wish your analysis included some consideration of the intended use of the boot. For example, by design cowboy boots tend to have higher heels, rigid shanks, and relatively thick, hard soles. Not very good for walking, but wonderful if you spend your day in stirrups (or on a ladder, or standing on concrete).
@jennypaxton8159
@jennypaxton8159 3 месяца назад
Or walking, but somewhere other than a street or sidewalk. Plus, the leather soles are ideal for puncture resistance (e.g. if you have the terrible luck to step on a horse crippler cactus or something) and good traction on dry sand and scrub, while the uppers are to keep out sand and protect your ankles from thorns (not rattlesnakes necessarily). The lack of laces is so you won’t get tangled up in the stirrup, thrown, and possibly dragged to your death by a freaking out horse (the natural state of horses, it sometimes seems). The stitching on the shaft is to keep it from slumping and slouching down, and if you’re doing that anyway, why not have it look nice?
@Beef5
@Beef5 Месяц назад
He said, "a thinner shank so not as good for standing on ladders all day." Thinner shank gives a little bit more." That means more comfort for walking and high arch support because of its shape. It's basically a slightly modified French tip. Knowing cowboy boots, a French tip is good for everything. Stirrups, style and walking. "They have a pillow top mattress for an insert". "They are the most comfortable cowboy boot available". Hope this helps solve the riddles.

I fell down the cowboy boot rabbit hole a couple years ago. Ended up buying about 12 pairs: Tecovas at first; then Lucchese; then Chisos. I was most disappointed with the Lucchese QC issues: imperfect stitching on most and shaft diameter on one pair. I agree the Chisos were the most comfortable. And customer service was outstanding. But since then I’ve become more of a heritage boot fan, filling up my closet with boots by Red Wing, Allen Edmonds, Alden, Viberg and Division Road/Whites collaborations. I’ll likely never buy another pair of cowboy boots, but this video may persuade me to revisit wearing my Chisos #2 once in a while.

I generally use either Ariat or Chisos insoles in my Tecovas or Cuadra boots. Those are available separately. I have a narrow foot so I get the same length and bring my foot up to compensate for the wider width of these off the shelf boots (they’re D and I’d need a B or a C). It’s a lot cheaper than buying a Chisos boot just for the comfort (plus Chisos don’t do zip boots and only do ostrich as an exotic skin). I don’t do ranch work in my boots so I gravitate towards exotic skins.

I had a pair of plain Tony Lama's from the 90's that I wore 1 month shy of 10 years. They were so broke in it was like wearing slippers. Wore them riding quads, wore them wading through creak, wore them through mud, wore them operating heavy equipment. One day the shank popped through the insole so I stopped wearing them. They were like 100 dollars in the early/mid 90s ($235 today) and made in the USA. I had the heals and sole savers replaced multiple times. Some day I'll get them repaired but the quality of boots today for that price don't compare.

Hey Weston, the reason cowboy boots crush your toes is you need narrow or a boot with a low instep. Cowboy boots need to be tight on the instep new. I have the same issue, and I bought narrow redwing pecos true to size 14C and they fit my instep better. Chisos and others only make D width, so their boots kinda suck for anyone without D width normal feet.

I have Lucchese’s, Ariats, Tecovas and Justin Boots. Personally Lucchese’s have the best fit, that white lining often feels more rigid as it grips your foot and reduces the boot from sliding. Ariats have the best value for your money it’s a good shit kicker. Tecovas are nice, I’ve learned to love them, their socks are pretty good. Justin Boots are one of my favorites, they’re also shit kickers, but they stay pretty for a long time. Materials are very thin/cheap and vary depending on their model. They have some thing called J-Flex where they have somewhat of a cloth/foam lining. Not a fan, but I think they would serve as an interesting cut in half for this series.

The tread started separating from the sole. 3 months in, I had to cement the sole back onto the boot 2 x's. As I wore them, and bear in mind I really take care of my boots) by the tenth month, I had re cemented the boots on 4 times, collapsed heal counters, both boots split on the side seems (where the round piping is) Justin has a 1 year warranty, I didn't even bother taking them up on that, because I was so disgusted by my experience. Worst boot I've ever worn. Are there any particular models of Justin's you would recommend? I'm hoping that a higher price boot, actually gives you higher quality.

I’d like to see what’s inside a pair of Heritage boots. I’ve heard good things about them and recently got a pair for myself. The customer service was great and they fit like a glove. They are inspired by Cowboy boots from the 30s-60s. Their base boots cost about $650. I’ve really enjoyed this Cowboy boot series.

I don't know if the goal is to find the most comfortable/toughest made cowboy boot but the Rios of Mercedes family of boots is high quality but made mostly for cowboys...some lifestyle stuff too. I have both a pair of Rios "Ride Ready" from NRS World and a pair of Anderson Bean and I really like them a bunch, Olathe and Macie Bean are their others brands under the same company. Anderson Bean actively advertises that not only are the boots made in the USA but they're made with USA sourced materials as well. I got my pair of AB at Cavenders for under $400 including tax. Hondo Boots also seems to make a very traditional cowboy boot as well but made in Mexico and I like the pair I have. Just some brands to consider anyway.

I love my No.5 Chisos. I have been, for the last year, literally wearing them 90% of the time, for work and for nights out. In fact, I need to take them to have them resoled. If I have one complaint, it is that they only have D widths and I wear a B, so I have added some strategically cut fillers to tighten up the vamp without crushing my toes.

I have a pair of chisos and they fit weird. They feel tight across my foot which is part of the break in which a lot of pain, but they also fit a little loose. I can slip them on and off without a problem, probably fling them off if I tried hard enough. So I can’t go up in size to fix the or the other problem because more apparent and vice versa. They’re not bad but could fix the size issue

None of todays mass market cowboy boots are built as well as they used to be, My Lucchese don't look anything like the boots you cut in half. Same with my Tony Lama Black Label in Caribou. Nothing like what's made today.

Nice video…I’ve commented before on Chisos boots. I’m old (Boomer), worn boots all my life and I own a horse farm. Up until about 20 years ago, lucchese was the go to boot. While they still make a nice custom boot and several of their handmade products are still nice quality, for the most part they are relying on reputation. Unfortunately or fortunately many folks don’t know the difference and honestly it probably doesn’t matter. However if you’re looking to get a genuine value Chisos are a safe bet. I do like more styles - I own the 3 snip toe boots offered by Chisos- and for that reason I looked hard for other brands (offering snip or cutter toes). For Styles and a great product I like Heritage Boots - they make a wonderful selection of vintage styles and a great oiled leather boot (Apache I believe). They are a hit and miss with products and often the wait times for a specific boot is a long wait. Their quality is terrific. Black Jack makes a tremendous boot and they offer customized boots that are terrific. However the wait time is around a year…At my age that’s a heck of a risk. Chisos remains- in my opinion- by far the best value off the shelf basic boot. I would say that if the boot was 800-1000.

Hey, man love your videos they got me into boots got my first pair of boots from this local indian company - craft and Glory. They were like 150 dollars and idk maybe it's because I haven't worn boots before but they feel amazing . It might be because of the low labour cost here idk but they seem very high quality for the price point. Would LOVE IT if you cut those in half, they have international shipping it would be cool to see yourIbreakdown on them.

Well, I got my ropers and at first they seemed tight but after trying them on for about the third time, they slipped too much. I guess I should have just exchanged them for a half size down, but they just didn’t feel right. Every review I read raved about how comfortable they were but that wasn’t the case for me. Maybe it’s just the shape of my feet, whatever. They were beautiful and extremely well made, but, like I said, something just didn’t “feel right “, and for $600 I think that it should be a “Wow! These are amazing “ moment right out of the box. But they weren’t for me, so I sent them back. Nothing against Chisos or the way the boots are made, just weren’t comfortable on my feet. It’s a shame because I really wanted to love them.

I’d like to see how Anderson Bean holds up under the knife. I’ve ridden horses in them and brought them back up to going out on the town. They’re made in the USA, and run about $450 for a basic cow skin riding boot. Mine from over ten years ago seem to be traditionally constructed with room for an insole. They typically run a shoe heel, so the ramp effect isn’t as severe. I wish they had a spur ledge, but they don’t, which is strange for a boot marketed at actual cowboys (horse people). It’s a tragedy that Olathe isn’t what it used to be.

Chisos is a well made boot and is comfortable. The problem is they are a D boot builder. The only EE width they make is the # 2. They also have a limited styles apposed to Lucchese or Tecovas. The last thing is they dont get boot sizes restocked in a timely fashion. Excellent boot if you are a D width.
