I bought a pair of No. 2 in Black years ago while I was in Texas visiting my parents in the hill country. And I can honestly say that they are not only well made, they are very comfortable. I've been been wearing cowboy boots since a tween and have worn many styles and brands from Justin, Tony lama and lucchese and now Chisos. The one nice thing that I love about these boots would be that there wasn't any breaking in period like other brands and I was able to wear them all day and night. That old saying," You get what you pay for" heck you get more than you pay for is true when it comes to Chisos boots. Just a Tejanos opinion.

I don't always agree with your assesments of boots, but this one seems like you've hit the nail on the head. As far as the compressed cardboard layer, I don't think that's a negative because, like you mentioned, it is a replacement layer, it is an addition that has a purpose. I wish the price were lower so that I could justify buying a pair, but I do think the price point is totally correct because you are getting such high quality. I'm just broke.

You reviewed the Chisos boots better than the Lucchese this time around, definitely going more into the detailing of the materials...you actually mentioned the pegging this time (though you never explained the importance of the pegging, and why more pegs are generally equated with better construction). Cutting the boot in half is very revealing...it's what got me hooked on your videos during covid. However, there were details you apparently missed with regard to the footbed materials. After a number of us commented that they could have possibly used cork instead of the cardboard, Chisos thankfully commented that they also use a small amount of cork in the footbed to support the front portion of the leather insole after the shank transition, though further up they use cardboard. Cork is naturally antibacterial/antifungal (it's why cork is ideally used in bottling wine) and adds longevity & comfort as the boot is broken in. There are a lot of other details you can go further into explaining why certain techniques are used in cowboy boot construction, and I think it's only fair that you do so because there are a lot of processes that go into making a quality cowboy boot, especially well-made cowboy boots which are made to last for decades (apparently, today's Lucchese aren't as well made as they used to be in the '80s & '90s). It's why a lot of vintage handmade cowboy boots have become regarded as heirloom luxury goods. I think your "scientific" methodology of commenting on the thickness of the leather tells only part of the story because premium leathers/skins like lizard or ostrich aren't going to be thick as common animal hides. It would also be good to comment on the marketing push a lot of newer companies that keep highlighting about their boots being "handcrafted" (which in itself is better than a machine-made cowboy boot in terms of quality), but it's not the same labor-intensive quality level as a "handmade" boot which requires more hands-on precision at every step of construction. The art of cowboy boot making originated in Mexico, so people need to understand that "made in Mexico" can be arguably just as good as any cowboy boot made in the USA, especially the handcrafted & handmade boots.

@@Chisos That would be awesome, someone has to capture that market and it will blow up because so far everyone just has that generic look. The key was the lasts that they used back in the day, that added lots of support to the upper part of the foot (bridge) as well as style, compliment that with the underslung heel and it’s perfect. And no one offers that now, maybe you’ll see that in the 1k range but your standard boot brands won’t. Hope to see it soon!!

Correct, that's an option we tried! But our number one goal was comfort: from the removable insole, to the leather, to the heel counter, to the arch support. And the compressed cardboard plays a key part in elevating the leather insole to curve the way we like it. We're always experimenting, though, and know that we can improve over time! -Will

@@Chisos Cork could be a better alternative to compressed cardboard. It's naturally antibacterial/antifungal, which is why they're used for bottling wine. As @Rouge -GSD had noted here in the comments, it gives the same effect and adds longevity with comfort as it's broken in. I'm curious as to how cost-effective it would be to make this change, or maybe it would be unnecessary if your insole already has embedded antibacterial properties (if they don't already). I've owned (and still have) handmade & handcrafted cowboy boots I acquired in the 1980s & 1990s, from Tony Lama, Rios de Mercedes, Lucchese & El Dorados. My latest acquisition is a pair of handmade JB Hills. I appreciate this latest review from Rose Anvil in spite of their limited understanding of what makes a quality boot...for example, leather thickness isn't necessarily as important as the leather quality (depending on the intended use of the boot), particularly since most exotic skins are thin in comparison to more common animal hides. I've never owned cowboy boots with insoles, so I'm intrigued by how Chisos boots are constructed with the intention of having insoles. When I get a chance, I hope to try on a pair at my local western apparel store. I like that you're a family-owned operation, so I look forward to seeing more styles being offered by your brand.
@Chisos
@Chisos Год назад
@@konacopia We use a small amount of cork in the footbed to support the front portion of the leather insole after the shank transition. Further up, we use the cardboard. So the compressed cardboard is in addition to the work, not as a replacement for it. Additionally the top layer of leather on the insole has mild antimicrobial properties. However, we do recommend you remove the comfort insole after particularly sweaty days to allow the entire boot to air out. Appreciate your experience and feedback. Rios are fantastic boots, in particular. If you ever get your hands on a pair of Chisos, we'd love to know what you think!

Great video. I really enjoy the cowboy boot analyses. How about cutting into a few pairs of Double-H boots? They sell a few models that fall somewhere between a classic cowboy boot and a more work-oriented western boot and it would be interesting to see how they are put together.

The Chisos are half the price, but the Luccheses were an exotic leather. Dairy Cow hide really isn't exotic in any way. Obviously, that doesn't account for such a huge price difference, but it should account for a couple hundred bucks. I'll mention it again as I did on the Lucchese video--You really ought to take a look at the cowhide/calfskin options from them. They are quite a bit cheaper ($500-$700), which makes them a better comparison to these.
@meredithsmith9967
@meredithsmith9967 Год назад
While I do enjoy these videos I do agree with you completely. You really can't compare the dairy cow Chisos to an exodic Lucchese. That's like comparing a one hundred dollar cowboy hat to a thousand dollar cowboy hat. They are both cowboy hats made very similarly but the materials themselves are not a fair comparison.

Lucchese boots are popular for a reason. They way they break-in. Feel and fit, just bc it doesn't have extra leather doesn't make them bad. People like them and there's a reason. I've never worn a pair of cowboy boots, but I recently bought a pair of jim greens and their built isn't at the same level as some of my more expensive boots and they feel like they were designed around my feet. I'm a jim green fan boy. They ain't pretty, but they work wonders

I would prefer an American made boot. But I'm fine as long as it's made in a boot wearing country. Especially when it's being made the right way. Buying a Chinese made boot is like listening to IGN's "firearm historian" who's never owned a gun in his life because he's european.
