I took the Tusk Emex 34 (front) T35(rear) out for the first time into some trails in the sierras 2 days in a row and they held up great; mix of dirt, roots, loose sharp broken granite gardens, mud, granite domes with steps and loose DG. Same trail has chunked many knobs and many flapping knobs off the Dunlop MX33 on the first ride many times over the years. I’ll take the tusk. I know the Dunlop fans will reply with, “yeah, but when you get a good one…!” Well, I’ve never gotten a bad Maxxis and this is my first set of Tusks and they’ve already done better than any of the dunlops I’ve tried.

Nice video. I like the Tusk rear tires. The T35 works great for the tracks I ride. The lean angle is a very critical part for me with front tires and I tried both Tusk and Dunlop but neither worked as well as the Michelin intermediate enduro front tire. I can save a little on the rear tire and I'll spend a little extra for the front.

@Kudla_2

I think it all comes down to familiarity. From the video, the Dunlop did a few of the things better but if your consistently riding the Tusk and know where that edge is for the lean angle, where the braking points are, etc you’re going to be able to push more on it cause you know it well. That’s the main reason I stick with the same tire from Kenda everywhere cause I’ve ridden it so long I know how it’ll perform in pretty much any condition.

I tried the EMEX 45, which is supposed to be a better tire for the conditions l ride in. It looked really well made and giant knobby height. It was the worst tire l have ever owned ! The thing about Dunlop, is they are always doing rebate deals. A local shop by me does a rebate thingy like once a month. I just buy a new set once a month and I get mailed a $50 dollar rebate card every time. I really only ride the track. So a set of tires lasts for well over a month worth of track days.

I would more specifically like to know the difference in weight. The rotating unsprung weight has a big impact on acceleration, deceleration, the gyro effect when leaning into a corner, and the ability for suspension to react to bumps. How much could you feel the weight difference? I remember running budget sedonas and they weight a lot more than the dunlops.

Been thinking about a wider tire for the rear. Maybe a 130 or 140/18. Thoughts? I'm still a beginner so any and everyone with some advice would be appreciated. I have a friend with a 300 Beta, running a 140 (wide) tire on the rear and swears by it. More tire on the ground and sticks out past the rim for even more traction in certain terrain. I'm on a 250 dual sport, use for commute but a lot of trail riding. 6ft and 265lbs of man. Any advice appreciated.

@steves2241 Год назад
This is a no brainer, if the cheaper tire performs 95% as good as the higher price tire, go with the cheaper tire, because it's 95% as good, and you can run 3 of them as long as 2 of the higher price tire. It's called math, and you are stupid to waste money on the higher price tire when you do not need to.

I'm not a fan of Dunlop MX33's at all. They're way too soft and flexible with hardly any sidewall strength. I swapped a T-45 on the back of my '21yz450f, and it's much better for my needs. Maybe for a 250cc 2 stroke on a groomed track, mx33's are fine. But for a 200lb rider on 450 that sees alot of rocky hard trails, the T45 all day. Also, tire pressure anywhere below 20psi for me on mx33's was super sketchy.
