This video was so helpful! I ride mainly on open fields and woodland with a bit of space. Was thinking of getting a 2 stroke instead but this video has convinced me that a 4 stroke is probably better for my riding style even though it’s more complex to maintain and rebuild theres not enough in it to consider getting a 2 stroke due to maintenence.
where can someone free ride a mountain like that clip in the video. The one where you are going over logs and not on a single track or a trail. Is there anything like that in utah?
So, when i returned to riding after 45 years of office work, i felt the need for bar risers. Seemed like an easy, cheap mod. However, I soon realized I was the problem, not the stock setup. I felt like I was riding in the right position, but i was not. lol. Took me a long time to get back into shape to even hold and feel comfortable in the correct riding position before I could finally correctly set up my suspension and begin riding correctly again. Correct riding position solves a host of issues (too much weight on front makes you think it’s not handling well, always pushing), allows correct damping setting, and lets you ride as intended without a “crutch.” If you have injuries, etc. then I get it. Sure, i have to lean forward a bit on the street, or settle for sitting forward till I get to the dirt, but keeping your calves vertical and getting head low will make stock bar height be just fine. I’m only 5’9” but i am in my 60s…so stretching and getting in shape solved the issues, just took a longer time!
I’ve never seen a banshee go below 30 mph and I’ve never seen it not overheating these machines are typically a hybrid cooling system they run so hot that they need to be air cooled and also liquid cooled when my dad had his banshee they always ran hot it did not help that it was 90 when we rode those every time we ripped on them that also may be a banshee thing.
So as you ride faster, your vision becomes more blurred, and you can only see as fast as your eyes and mind can process the terrain..Do you guys have any tips involving improving vision while going faster to reduce blurring affect of speed?
Just buy a YZ125X and be done with it. These bikes fit a very large range of riders, they are light, perform well and they are much cheaper to buy than the 4 stroke bikes. The only thing you might want to add is a larger gas tank. The only bike you will ever need.

Yeah for a new rider especially if you're going to be riding at the motocross track 4 strokes are easier to ride and easier to go fast on for off road it doesn't really matter in my opinion but whenever I'm at my local mx track I'll see guys on 2 strokes who'll go around the track and the whole time never be in the powerband
Excellent video. Experiment, understand your abilities, set by typical riding areas/ terrain. And alway take in confort! So you can enjoy the longest rides.. it’s about fun. Not getting hurt.. also change with age. I ride well but less aggressive then 20 yrs ago.. still fast, but stopped the risky racing.. in the end find what works so you can do this as long as possible..
BOUGHT MY 500 EXC WITH RISERS that were about 50mm high, it was a 2nd hand bike - i left them on as the bike was amazing on dual sport riding but the day i went racing i realised my cornering was pathetic - i dropped one 25mm riser in practice, dropped the bars to standard for race - have never gone back to risers even though i spend most of my time doing dual sport riding and hard enduro ..
I'll never understand the opinion that the maintenance and reliability are similar. I've raced both types, every 4 stroke I raced, ( 250 and 450) required constant valve adjustments, both blew up with low hours on the meter.. my 2 strokes got a top end once and year and never broke, with racing all season and trail riding almost daily. In my very real experience, the reliability is not even close. I have years and years on both types. One type almost never broke, one type blew up constantly.

The four stroke capacity cheat is an admission that the two strokes are superior. If not for the four stroke cheat, two strokes would still dominate everything. Two strokes are WAAAY faster than four stroke jokes.
I have tried both in the California High Desert. The EMEX 35 worked very well, but they wear faster than Dunlop's. I tried the EMEX 45, which is supposed to be a better tire for the conditions l ride in. It looked really well made and giant knobby height. It was the worst tire l have ever owned ! It lost 3/16" in 1 hour ! I got 6 hours out of it ! AT 81's 12-14 hours !
@@valk2785 okay, I would say that I'm new, I always drive my friends 250 2stroke and if I want to get a license I have to get a 125 and I don't know what to get

I watch all your videos. I've been off roading since 1968 so I'm about out of pre-mix on my desert tank. JK. I have been riding and began desert racing in 1970 so thousands of miles off road and I can say Josh is amazing.
The helmet cameras are now old and we as viewers only see dirt ahead. We want to see the rider ride and race so it’s best to get someone to video the rider as he rides. Thats the best view. It’s 2024 so that should have invented a way to have a drone follow the bike at 10’, 15’,20’ and 25’ away and something attached to the rider so the drone knows to follow the bike and video tape the rider.
