Such a nice review, this was refreshing, the view so relaxing, you yourself sounded relaxed so focused. Seeing the gorgeous finish of shells through natural light was a hit! Nature and Tech stuff go so nice! Very useful comparisons. Thank you! Do more stuff like this.

I have the Starlight and at 57YO I do have diminished upper frequency hearing. I found them to be too much initially. I gave them substantial break-in time and still ended up creating an EQ profile to tame the treble to the point where I really do enjoy them now. The treble is still elevated beyond most other sets but damn they are detailed but not sibilant or harsh. They are a favorite of mine along with the Kinera Mount Nanna 2.0 and Mofasest Trio.

I was saving for the Z1R and agonizing over whether I'd miss on some TOTL vocal clarity or some other aspect that I desire, to decide that I can get the monarch AND the S8 for about the same cost as the Z1R itself, and have the best of both worlds. :) Thanks for the work you guys do. Seriously, you and Precog might be the best reviewers in the whole IEM space.

Seems like the Monarch is still my 700usd IEM of choice. Dunno about Oracle or Excalibur or the Starshine. Hopefully you won't get attacked and decayed by a KBear cause your reviews are the best. Outside reviews have a very chill vibe to them.

I want to add more thing with the RSV, you could listen to it for 6+ hours without any fatigue whatsoever, it's just getting better the higher you turn up the volume, ofcourse it's not recommended for your hearing health, but it just so good at a very loud songs.

Haven’t heard the Monarch. My personal ranking is RSV >= S8 > Starlight. For live recordings, I like the Mangird Tea, which portrays the venue very well.

I for one like this style of review/talk. I much prefer the casual/relaxed nature of your reviews in general. Some of the more overly produced/scripted reviewers are not my cup of tea at all. I get the appeal of them I guess but sometimes they come off as a kinda like a commercial or at times even disingenuous. You don’t...ever. To me, your reviews are right in the sweet spot and the casual “nature walk and talks” have been great. Maybe you shouldn’t smash other community members in your vids though....poor Antdroid. 🐜

I like this format to break things up. But, don't abandon the original in-studio presentations. I found myself not as 'involved' with this outdoor presentation, not as closely paying attention to your words, as when you do studio videos. I think maybe if it was a comparison of just two IEMs in an outdoor setting, I may have been able to follow more closely. Maybe it's just me. Good show, as always.

Got the monarch recently. Right out of the box, I couldnt believe my ears. Is this what people consider a bass-head dream? It has a weak subbass and lacks lower mids. It really sounds thin, which I expected, but the lack of propper bass was unexpected. Had to equalize that quite a bit with my 32 band EQ. Minus 4,5 Db pre-gain, than: 4,5Db from 20hz to 50 hz, then 2 DB from 60hz to 135hz and 3 Db around 200hz). Only 1,5Db around 165Hz. Then I juiced up the mids just a tiny bit at 750 hz and 1,1 Khz and 1,3Khz around 0,5 Db) then also made the mids a little bit more agressive in the area between 2 Kz, 2,9Khz and 3,5 khz - 0,5 - 1Db) and added some bite to the sound 6,5 Khz+11Khz and 16,5Khz - 1,5-2DB). NOW IT SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE and the bass man! THE FREAKING BASS!!! But right out of the box, I was unpleasantly surprised how NOT SUB-BASSY it was for my taste. I think it even lacks like 1,5Db of lower bass to call it at least balanced. It just sounds thin. Fortunately it has amazing response to equalization, but honestly if this is how all the monarchs sound like, I have absolutely no idea how anyone would call these bassy headphones. The detail retrieval is mindblowing, everything else is tuned like a dream if you buy it for its specific tuning. TOOK me a long time to find the best EQ (still working on it), but it was worth every second. I would be actually quite dissapointed comming from heavily EQed Blessing 2 Dusk. Expected to not have to tweak Monarch that much.

That doesn't sound right at all. The monarch is one of the most sub-bassy IEMs available. Check out the FR linked in the video description. You may want to make sure there's not something wrong there. could also be a seal/fit issue.

I agree completely. Got the Monarch's mid last year, watched this vid back then as well and was so excited expecting some awesome bass. I was pretty disappointed. I suppose it's the mid bass that's lacking most but for me they sound quite thin right out of the box for me as well, wo eq. I had a pair of Sennheiser IE 400 pro previous to these and they had more bass, though they weren't as clear or detailed overall. I do really like the Monarch's now, but they didn't live up to the hype for me. I'm considering getting a pair of M9's next.

Bro, is RSV better than FiiO FH7s or FH9? I prefer neutral with slight warm, good sub bass rumble and proper midrange tonality and timbre overall. I don't like piercing treble. I listen to many genres but mostly vocals, rock and metal

What I say below is not meant to be negative but in fact meant to help those in this hobby. Especially those who're newer as most people who're new to this hobby seem to take the Harman Target/Curve for to seriously. The Harmon Target/Curve claims to be what the majority of listeners like. Do people actually believe that a sample size of 249 people would represent the majority of headphone listeners? We have no idea what music they listened to or the equipment they used and again it was only a sample size of 249 people. It's ridiculous and a joke that should not be taken seriously, ever. It's nothing more than a marketing ploy that went mainstream and I really wish people would wake up.

Actually if you read the research, we know exactly what they listened to and for how long. We've done an extensive video on reading headphone measurements that you should check out, with reasons why Harman should be used, along with reasons to be critical of it. But at the very least, it's worth reading the research before passing judgment.

This unpopular opinion, but I bought the starfield and I am very disappointed in it. I don't know if its my ear geometry or just my unit but the treble to me is quite sizzling, not sibilant but not clean either (may be thin?) and gets on my nerve quite a bit, do you have any recommendations over the starfield that avoids this problem?

I'm way late, but the Blessing 2 improves on the spiciness of the Starfield, and the S8 improves even further. Is it worth it? No. But they are better.

just wondering, when you complain about the cable on the moondrop. Can you unplug the cable from the one you like and plug that into the moondrop s8? The reason why I asked was because i think the cable for the moondrop s8 are universal.

Is the RSV basically the same shape as the Blessing 2? From pictures, the nozzle looks a lot like Moondrop. Ironically the Blessing 2 fits me quite well, so I'm wondering if the RSV or S8/A8 would be that precise upgrade while maintaining comfort.

Weirder for me. Blessing can't fit me due to big nozzle. Even with small tips . RSV i can wear it for hours eventhough its big shell push my ears overall. Variations can fit me but its longer bottom part hit my ear and hurts even 1 minute. I have small. Ears

@@zeissiez I was a bit hesitant as the S8 shows more bass quantity than the B2 from the FR curves and B2's bass is already a bit too much for me. And the leaner mids, too. I kinda like the mids in the B2 to be a bit more forward/weighty to be honest Do you have any IEMs in mind from these preferences? haha

@@autoexec5367 If you like forward and thicker mids, then Moondrop house sound may not be suitable for you. The B2 has more sub bass than mid bass. If you think the sub bass is too much and the mid bass is ok, then you can check out Dunu SA6, RSV, Andromeda2020. If you think the B2 has too much mid bass, then you must be really sensitive to bass, and I can’t think of an iem that can match your preference.

Sub 1k, it is quite difficult to match the Chinese lineup. If you want to spend slightly above, try either andromeda 2020 or sony ier-m9 (you can get these two below 1k actually, if you know where to look)
