Most of the German officers were handsome men. I saw many old photos from WWII. The physical appearance was important to the nazis. They believe in that. The uniforms were top notch.
War is war. Despite of the atrocities committed I wish these two to be together. I’m sure so many love stories were lost….people are afraid to talk about it. I’ve seen so many WWII pictures of German officers, soldiers, American officers, Russians officers. Germans were the most good looking and the uniform ….it was the best uniform. Speechless.
I love the way the fans, from all over the world, have shared what they imagine the characters are thinking and feeling, it is almost as if they are writing their owen version of Le Silence de la Mer. I think it makes this unique film even more interesting.
It is too bad that the language barrier limits the audience reach so muchL The other WWII love stories like (The exception, the Black book, Suite Française) have so many hits, whereas I think Le Silence has lots more subtle magic and emotional power, but are not nearly as known due to the language it is in.
This movie made a bigger impression on me than the movie after Sigrid Undset’s novel Kristin Lavransdatter. Maybe because of the simple fact that Kristin got the man she wanted against all odds while here the whole movie is like a silent cry for love…suppressed emotions and desires…so heartbreaking…💔

I think he started to see them as his after work family. Even though they don’t speak to him, but they are always there in that large nice house with the fireplace and the piano. They also anticipate his returning from work and drop in their living room for his monologue. He has become a part of their life and made a real connection with Jeanne. And what a beautiful connection it was.

The captain should beat the daylights out of Pascal. There he was restraining himself to even touch his dream girl and Pascal was 'helping himself' with her . For once Captain don't be a gentleman. !!!! He's a musician and composer so maybe roughing it out is not his style but definitely Jeanne needs to know that he'll protect her. Nobody messes around with somebody's girl. It's a code that ALL MEN honour. Good movie though albeit heart wrenching with the sad ending.

At the end of this movie she should have apologized to him over and over again for her cold behavior towards him. I understand she may have held off for a month, but then after that she should have started talking to him. She knew well he was a good man, by the things he said to her and how he acted. She wasted all that time being very cold to him. She should have talked to him everytime she saw him. They were soul partners and she purposely would not give in and talk to him. She threw it all away! God doesn't give people a hundred people to pick from for their mate. You may get one, if your lucky. She just threw it all away by being cold hearted and speechless on purpose!! He finally gave up on her. She only said one word to him at the end when she should have poured out her heart in apology to him for her rude behavior for all those months in silence, not speaking to him, not answering him when he talked to her.
NO, there is nothing to apologize. It's war, Captain Erbrenach is a Wehrmacht Officer, Jeanne is in the Resistance. Very conflicting dynamics. To be silent is safe. Werner feels Jeane has feelings for him. The timidity says it all.
I adore this video, have been listening and watching it since I discovered the movie. This year is 80th anniversary of D Day (2024), I wonder if France would come out with more WWII movies like this one. It would be a dream come true if a sequel is made for Jeanne and Werner, even if with new actors (since Thomas Jouannet and Julie Delarme are twenty years older from that timeline). It would be great to see another powerhouse performance by some young faces. BBC made Island at War (2004, only 1 season). It would be great if another season can come out.
Leiyang I read that This was their last great role all others after that were to just make a living. This movie moved so many of us in. Beautiful way. I believe the universe chose these two for this role to move us all into what you so wonderfully described vibration of love❤❤❤
@@KatherineTThan You would love the German tv serie (only 3 episodes) "Turncoat", not as transcendant as Silence, but beautifully acted, realistic war movie, with lots of emotionally charged twists and turns. "Generation War" is also good (German too), as is "Arletty---a guilty passion". Stay in the vibe...

With all that we have all experienced these past few years I feel people would really appreciate this movie ...you described it so perfectly . They could use younger actors and then at the end bring in Thomas and Julienne at their age now with grown children ..visiting where their love began. I’m looking forward to the shows you recommended. I once was very interested in German culture after watching utube videos of two friends . One German and the other American . But later someone shared a lot of hateful things with me about Hitler the Nazis etc. it affected me but slowly I cleared this up within myself. Я очень настоятельно прошу прочитать новеллу "Молчание моря" всем любителям подобного жанра, в новелле дело происходит только в доме, где живет дядя со своей племянницей, посмотреть фильм образца 1949, который полностью соответствует рассказу, я хотела бы высказать свое мнение по поводу фильма образца 2004, начнем со сценария, сценарий написан по двум новеллам молчание.. и однажды.., обе новеллы дали сценарий, скажем так, как в опере-либретто, т.е краткое содержание, а вот дальше авторы сценария внесли свои коррективы, например, сцена, где взрывается машина, встреча капитана и жанны на причале, рождественская линия, в рассказе ничего этого нет, мое мнение таково, что фильм 2004, снят для современной публики, зритель любит движение, сюжет, который меняется молниеносно, в старом фильме нет движения, но автор Веркор преследовал не эту цель, в его книге он повествует о том, что молодой человек из хорошей семьи, получивший прекрасное образование и воспитание, вынужден был и под влиянием обещания, данного отцу, и под влиянием друзей присоединится и покориться фюреру, в рассказе и намека нет, что он попросился в боевую дивизию из-за любви, да есть намек на то, что поведение девушки он одобряет, нада победить молчание Франции и эта задача мне нравится, а на фронт он попросился после разговоров со своими друзьями в Париже, он идеалист, он думал, что они освобождают Европу от коммунистической нечисти, пропаганд и с той, и с другой стороны работала на все сто 💯

Это дед в племянником, который приставал к Жанне, устроил теракт. Жанна об этом не знала, пока не увидела момент минирования авто... Музыкой она спасла немца, в которого была влюблена. Она знала, что он не пройдет мимо, остановится ...Ну и немец, будучи влюбленным в Жанну, понимая, что музыка его спасла, их отпустил с дедом. И он добровольно попросился на фронт, уже не смог оставаться в этом доме, в этом городе. Ну а с дедом у Жанны будет серьезный разговор после прощания Жанны с немцем, со слезами в три ручья, и она первый раз сказала ему одно слово "прощайте". Тонкая история. Фильм хороший.

One of the reasons Werner left other than Survivior's guilt, was the likelihood of the execution of 99 hostages, remember the Grandpa read in the news that 99 Frenchmen were killed for the assassination of two German officers. Werner's rank was Captain, he was likely an executive officer at the Kammandantur, responsible for carrying out the orders of the local commander. He will not be able to live at Jeanne's anyway, returning daily to the site where his fellow officer and orderly died. If Jeanne had the foresight of what assassination of the German officers meant for her community (99 men would be killed as an retaliation), she would have told Werner to take care of that bomb without making lots of noise. Oh, well we don't write the script, it had to be this way to lead to the doom of their love.
