The castle is a special place. It is the second largest castle complex in the Czech Republic, comprising more than forty buildings.
Its foundations were laid as early as the 13th century and it was ruled by noble families. For 300 years it was ruled by the Rozsumberks, then the Eggenbergs and the Schwarzembergs from 1722 to 1947. These families made the most significant contribution to the present-day appearance of the castle and the town, which is now only seen in the morning.
