Definitely one of the better juliets. Somova understands what artistic expression is.

star-crossed lovers! what a beautiful performance. Somova is breath-taking and lyrical... her coltish limbs, long lines and superb acting skills create the perfect Juliet, bringing to life the unfolding drama and tragedy... i wish so much i could have seen her "live".

Alina is amazing as always as a dancer and as an actress . In this role she is a true actress in the Art of the Ballet. Her multiple jumps are all so light and the grande allegro jumps are maintained 180 degrees are at 100 % . Also, her dance costume is one of the most beautiful . These kind of dance dresses are like the initiative for ballet , use of mostly long dresses in the past but having it’s character from the past mixed with the present, and its changes throughout the year as well as some solid unchangeable things such as fantastic artistic presence all throughout the performance.

Alina is an excellent ballerina, she is not only a dancer, she is an artist. In her performance, she showed the emotion and charm of the characters, and promoted the development and climax of the plot.

I never liked Somova much but her performance as Juliet is wonderful. So emotional and such good acting!! I would say that's her best role.

How I love to see her beginning her portrayal this young! That really highlighted this tragedy. And yes, Fadeev will be missed.

Although I am not a knee-jerk admirer of Somova, her Juliet performance here is superb. What is there not to like about it? Her dancing is fine, and her acting is impressive. She certainly looks the part.

I saw Alina in this role in Mariinsky, and thought that it’s not her role, despite of all my admiration for Alina’s grace and artistry. I loved Novikova, Obraztsova , Shakirova , Ayupova and Vishneva in this role.

Alina is beautiful in every role. I really hope she gets some interesting debuts at the Mariinsky this season. Top picks would be Raymonda, Scheherazade, Firebird, Maria in FOB, Chopiniana, Carmen, Ondine, and of course Midsummer Night's Dream. Fadeev will be missed.

He was appointed as the artistic director of the Leonid Jacobson Saint-Petersburg State Academic Ballet about a year ago. :'( I miss him!! He was too young to retire from dancing.

I saw many Juliets, few among those dance in Mariinsky. Most of the ones I had seen were good, some were outstanding and one moved me to tears with her inspired performance. Alina, however, shines even among the brightest stars. I haven't seen her London debut in the role, but in this video she is simply mesmerizing. Find dancing and superior acting skills!

Without Fadeyev I think I found nice solution for Alina's Romeo. Kuznetsov. He could talk most passionate love with her every minute he's on the stage and save her from her lonely planet!

Her acting is amazing. My favourite moment is when Nurse tells her that she danced with Romeo and her Juliet matures suddenly. It's surprising that she was so criticised on her debut one year before that performance. She was probably better here than on her debut, it's natural, but I don't believe that she just turned from horrible to amazing. So I guess that British critics were biased and/or didn't like Lavrovsky version.

@theamazingsoter Besides, do give me a break about the " professional journalists and ballet experts". These individuals can be extremely biased and not necessarily trusted, so very true particularly, in the world of performing art, everybody knows it. I wonder where such naivity comes from, education, experience, age, maybe?

But here comes a follow up question: what kind of person would dedicate all her free time to such unseemly pursuit? Someone who is emotionally unstable, unsatisfied in her paid career, desperately unhappy in her personal life or the combination of all of the above, and then some.

@looovecats Yes, you are absolutely correct. I actually did see her perform Juliet in London 2 years ago. It was lovely and so moving that I cried. I was not the only one so impressed in the auditorium. She obviously performed superbly, however, the Brit critics for some reason decided to attack her so hysterically in their reviews. It was definitely some kind of negative propaganda/campaign in order to discredit her talent. Shame on them, indeed.
