The song is about a Russian woman named Katyusha. Standing on a steep riverbank, she sings a song to her beloved, a soldier serving far away. The theme of the song is that the soldier will protect the Motherland and its people while his grateful woman will keep and protect their love. Its lyrics became relevant during the Second World War, when many Soviet men left their wives and girlfriends to serve in the Soviet Army during World War II, known in Russia as The Great Patriotic War. The song's popularity began to increase with the beginning of Operation Barbarossa launched by Germany against the Soviet Union. The song was sung by female students from a Soviet industrial school in Moscow, bidding farewell to soldiers going to the battle front against Nazi Germany. Its first official performance was by Valentina Batishcheva in the Column Hall of Moscow's House of the Unions, at the State Jazz Orchestra concert in the autumn of 1938. It has since been performed many times by other famous singers, including Lidia Ruslanova, Tamara Sinyavskaya, Georgi Vinogradov, Eduard Khil, Anna German, Ivan Rebroff, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Joseph Kobzon and more. "Katyusha" is part of the repertoire of the Alexandrov Ensemble.
@@johnlawrence7090So, who do YOU "love" and why?? Me? I neither hate or love Texas/Trump/Putin**. As far as Texas "susceding".....Be CAREFUL what you hope/pray/wish for????
Apple and pear trees do not bloom here- Here is a strange sky above me. I miss you, Katyusha, the sweetest, most tender and dear. Before the battle tonight at dawn, the wind brought me your song, About the only love in the world, About spring in the land of native birches. This song warmed my soul, As if I had come to my HOMELAND, Where both apple trees and pears bloom, And as if I had seen you. Wait for me, beloved Katyusha, Never lose hope, And I will return home victorious, Come out then meet me. And, to the sound of the birches of my native land, I will hold you tightly to my breast, The birds will sing to us, without ceasing, Only you wait a little. The sun shone in the clear sky: The May wind dispersed the clouds! And Katyusha met a fighter. The garden bloomed, the end of the war came!! Or something like that... My Russian is rusty...
I said my Russian was very basic and hasn't been used in a long time... It is probably not really correct.. but I tried to do it out of my head instead of just looking up english lyrics.@@user-dh7nh5yw8d
What a beautiful rendition of Katyusha! Such a sweet and talented little girl. I may not know much about Russia but I am a WW2 buff. The best shot of the video is when she clutches her heart and sings with both the T-34 and the "Katyusha" Soviet Rocket Launcher named after the song and the Russian girl it is about named Catherine (Katyusha) singing for her beloved, a soldier fighting for his motherland. Hope those two WW2 relics in the background are authentic. Their so awesome to look at =)
show me an american kid singing nationalistic songs in military uniform. Dictators like Putin and Hitler misuse the value of family for their own sinister purposes. i have nothing against kids singing songs praising their country but not when at the same time their country brutally attacks and murders the citizens of other countries.@@ram0s._1
