I remember buying 4 boxes back 2006 just to pull a Ohran Viper (it was $20 back in the day). Didn't even pull one lol. Atleast the card prices went up over time. Mishra's Bauble was also 0.99 back then and Dark Depths was a $3 novelty card at best. How times have changed.

Love seeing these old box openings: I would have paid to be the one to open this in a second if I saw it. I opened one of these a few weeks ago and cracked a foil Counterbalance pack 1; was so stoked! I'll have to watch closer when you announce the boxes to open!

Just an FYI- the Marit Lage token was not found in packs; it was the Coldsnap Release token.

The Marit Lage Token isn't actually in the set. That card was the prerelease promo for Coldsnap. Which is why it was so incredibly expensive before its FTV Reprint.

I love Ice Age, Alliances, and Coldsnap. Also, Snow Decks are some of my favorite decks of all time.

Lightning Storm, Counterballance, Rune Snag, Mishra's Bauble, Acrum, Zur the Enchanter, Skred, a Snow covered land in every pack...poor man's Force of Will effects, accumulative upkeep cards.... These packs are fun! So many cards that can be played in various formats!

No coldsnap in my pants, that whole video did it for me. I love the nostalgia on old stuff like this and snow-covered lands are always awesome.

Anyone else feel like every single card in Coldnsnap has amazing artwork? It makes me wish they would take a similar direction with the newer stuff =/

This set came out right around the years I began buying my own cards. I still use Hibernations end in my beast deck... this video made my downstairs jiggle a bit.

Those coldsnap foils are gorgeous.

Ice Age and their Theme Deck Reprints are my favorite lands ever. Especially the Plains and Mountains.

Braid of Fire was printed back when Mana Burn was still a thing so if you didn't have something to do with the mana it would kill you so you'd eventually sacrifice it. It was a beneficial cumulative upkeep to a point but would quickly become a liability.

I remember when Ice Age came, it was so f..king popular set. I however played Doomtrooper at that time, like that was only real competitor for Mtg, but it ended till late 90s.

Not only was this a tiny set, it was the fastest-designed in the history of the game at only six weeks. Also, mana burn existed back when this was released, so Braids would eventually burn you out. It's all upside now though, although admittedly difficult to use because it has to be used in the upkeep.

people who sell sealed magic product are the only ones who make money. people who open a $400 box get $100 or less worth of cards. that's why I watch rudy open them it saves so much money.

The reason Braid of Fire wasn't completely ridiculous at the time was because of mana burn still being a thing. Once that rule died, yeah, no worries about left over mana.

I love ice themed things and the first magic cards I ever bought for myself were 2 coldsnap structure decks back then when they were released (cost me 12€ together back then) I'm a bit of a odd collector when it comes to trading cards :P

This set was released in between Ravinca block (first one) and time spiral block. Mythics wouldn't be a thing until three expansion blocks later Time spiral > Lorwyn/Shadowmoor > Alara.

don't feel bad, i just pulled 3 of the same mythic rare (decimator of the provinces) in a wallmart fatpack of eldritch moon. also got a foil geier reach sanitarium. none of its worth a crap too. i also pulled a badass blue commander deck from 2014 from a cube that also contained a mythic ob nixilis reignited. pretty cool planeswalker.

Coldsnap did not do Ice Age justice. I think Ice Age is the most underrated and nostalgic set to date. Me and my friends did more deck crafting in those days with mostly Ice Age than any other set. Sort of wish they would do an actual Ice Age nostalgia set with foils, where nothing is changed and all the art is the same.

I legit opened one of these boxes back in 2012. Pulled a Dark Depths and a ton of baubles. Unfortunately I got rid of them when they were like $3....

It's 460 bucks on Amazon right now... I guess with those old boxes it's pretty much impossible to break even.

Rite of Flame is SOO GOOD. Was sad when it rotated out of standard. Best storm decks.

i bought a box for $60 about 8 years ago and got 6 regular baubles and a foil. Just sold 'em all. Had to wait on a long time on that investment, haha.

3 of the same rares in a box ... that's what real random looks like. Usually people don't like real random, usually prefer an evened-out randomization

Damn, I remember considering to actually buy out all of those Mishra's Baubles when you could actually get them for literally 10-25 cents on MKM. I did get myself a playset for brewing, and then a fifth one since one of them was quite damaged, which I ended up for a couple of bucks after it spiked; though I sold them before the second (ridiculous) spike with MM17. I was sure they'd reprint it in there. Now that it has gotten that high, once it finally gets its reprint, it's sure to get the unwarranted, purely secondary-marked based rarity upgrade.

10:42 Sheltering Ancient Still looks like a sleeper card to me. True, there might be another particular, all-too infamous green two-drop that can potentially be bigger than that guy. But something tells me that a 5/5 trampling two-drop just have to find a home in the right shell to abuse this guy _eventually_. I've built some fun _ferocious_-themed brews with this guy so far. Stuff like _fight_, _haste_, _scavenge_also all works nicely with him. If Nature's Legacy was an instant, this guy would be bonkers with it.

10:45 IIRC I don't think you could float mana between the upkeep and main phase, so you risked mana burn which balanced the card. Since they removed mana burn, I think that may be a much stronger card.

I would love to see Full Art snow covered lands come out in a set. My Cold Snap is top 3 released set for me.

Great video! I was shocked because you didn't hit a single Tamanoa as your rare! Tamanoa is the BOSS! You Volcanic Fallout or Blasphemous Act to take out your opponents creatures and gain huge amounts of life. Combine with Searing Meditation and pain lands like Battlefield Forge and you don't even have to play spells.

It's hilarious to me...but a decent number of packs of Cold Snap will have a basic land as their most valuable card. Snow-covered lands (especially mountains) have some real value.

By the way, since I still only still snow-covered basics as the basic lands of all my decks(for the formats I can do that in), I'll just let you know... every single Snow-covered Mountain is 3$. That becomes really expensive to get when you need to buy about 20+ more in one go... (which I did, once).
