Do you use right or left tooling in your turret lathe?
I use a combo of both.
It seems to me that for max rigidity, you'd want left handed tools. The workpiece is pushing the tool and turret down. Gravity already had the turret sitting on its ways, and that is the same direction the force is going.
When you run right-handed tools, the force is trying to lift the turret off of its ways.
My roughing tools are generally left-handed due to this logic. But, I may have the wrong idea. Do MTBs build the machine with right-handed tools in mind as primary/normal use goes?
I like my finishing tools to be right hand, as gravity helps the long stringy chips from getting tangled up.

I use RH tools. Turrets on modern machines are plenty rigid and should be able to take the force in any direction, especially if it uses preloaded ball/roller guides. Might as well keep the tools upside down, as intended by the MTBs for chip evacuation.
When rigidity is an issue, it's typically due to workpiece or tool flex. Tool orientation is the least of my worries.

During roughing, I don't have much trouble with chips, usually.
