Nice video good job. Kasargod, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Canara Districts used to be part of Madras State and Madras Presidency. Some time ago, There were trains only from Madras Central to Mangalore, there were no trains from Bangalore to Mangalore. Tulu people wanted to be part of Madras state or Tamilnadu, because Palakkad and Kozhikode, Kasargod districts went to Kerala. There would not be any land connectivity to Tulunadu. So Tulunadu became part of Karnataka. Every small town in TN use to have atleast one Udupi or Tulu Restaurant. They all have disappeared now. All people from Coorg, Tulu nadu use to come to Madras for higher studies. Tulu, Coorgi is also nearer to Tamil language than Kannada. So, it is not a surprise if somebody from Mangalore speaks Tamil. I could understand both the versions of Tulu they spoke. It also kind of sounds like the Kannada spoken in Komarapalayam, Gugai areas of Salem.
