உலகத்திலேயே மிகப்பெரிய மர அரண்மனைகளில் ஒன்றான பத்மநாபபுரம் அரண்மனை
இந்த அரண்மனை கி.பி.1592 - 1609 ல் திருவாங்கூரை ஆண்ட இறவி வா்மா குலசேகரபெருமாள் என்ற மன்னரால் கி.பி. 1601 ல் கட்டப்பட்டது. இந்த அரண்மனை வளாகம் 185 ஏக்கரில் மேற்கு தொடா்ச்சிமலை அடிவாரத்தில் உள்ள வேலி மலையில் உள்ளது. இது திருவனந்தபுரத்தில் இருந்து 52 கி.மீ. தொலைவிலும், தக்கலையிலிருந்து 2 கி.மீ. தொலைவிலும் உள்ளது. மாநில மறுசீரமைப்பு சட்டம் 1956 ன்படி இந்த அரண்மனை கேரள அரசின் ஆளுகைக்கு மாறியது. இந்த அரண்மனை கேரள தொல்லியல் துறை பாதுகாப்பில் உள்ளது. நவீன திருவாங்கூரை வடிவமைத்த மார்த்தாண்ட வா்மா, மரத்தாலான நவராத்திரி மண்டபத்தை கற்களால் மாற்றி அமைத்தார். 1744 ல் பெருமாள் கொட்டாரம் என்னும் 4 அடுக்கு உப்பரிகை மாளிகையையும் புதுப்பித்து வடிவமைத்தார். இம்மாளிகை 1940 ல் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளிலும் பாரம்பரிய உத்திகளின்படி புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டது. பிற்காலத்தில் இந்த அரண்மனையில் ஒரு அருங்காட்சியகம் அமைக்கப்பட்டது. அதில் பாரம்பரிய பொருட்கள் கல்வெட்டுக்கள், செப்புத் தகடுகள், கல் மற்றும் மரத்தால் ஆன சிற்பங்கள், நாணயங்கள் மற்றும் படைக்கலன்கள் காட்சிக்கு வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. 1994ல் இந்த அருங்காட்சியகம் புதிதாக கட்டப்பட்ட கட்டிடத்திற்கு மாற்றப்பட்டது.
இந்த அரண்மனையின் முக்கிய பகுதிகள் - பூமுகம், மந்திர சாலை, மணிமேடை, ஊத்துபுரம், தாய்க் கொட்டாரம், உப்பரிகை மாளிகை, கண்ணாடி தளம், நவராத்திரி மண்டபம், இந்திர விலாசம் மற்றும் சந்திர விலாசம்.

The best season to visit Padmanabhapuram Palace is winter. It begins in October and ends in February. The temperature remains pleasant throughout the day. You can also visit it during the monsoon season, between July and September, but the weather might be too humid for a comfortable visit to the palace.
