Tiffin Sambar
Ingredients
1. Green gram dal - ½ cup
2. Shallots / small red onion + big onion - 3 cups
3. Tomato cubed - 5
4. Green chilli - 4
5. Tamarind juice - 1 tsp
6. Turmeric powder - a big pinch
7. Salt - to taste
8. Coriander leaves - 1 cup
9. Sambar powder - 1 tbsp
10. Jaggery - a little
Seasoning
11. Sesame oil - 1 tbsp
12. Fenugreek seeds - ½ tsp
13. Mustard seeds - ½ tsp
14. Dry red chilli - 3 to 4
15. Curry leaves - 2 to 3 twigs
Preparation
1. Pressure cook the dal till mushy.
2. Season the seasoning items in sesame oil & sauté the onion, then sauté tomato pieces, green chilli, add water, salt & boil till well done.
3. Add the tamarind juice & mashed dal, sambar powder & jaggery & boil, add half the coriander leaves & enough water, boil.
4. Garnish with more coriander leaves.
