Appreciate your analysis but you are wrong when you connect Vijayan with the Existentialism that arose in post war Europe of Camus, Sartre and others. We Malayalees rooted in our culture and values like Vijayan faced no such trauma. All he faced was the Emergency when his cartoons became dangerous for him. If having a sexual relationship with his step mother is the cause of his identity crisis, his repeated sexual acts are not existential, just amoral. Worse, cowardice Sethu tried to do the same in Aliyah in the relationship of a teenaged boy and his uncle' wife. Khasak is a wonderful novel with great characters but do not make connections that are erroneous.
