ദുര്യോധനൻ ധർമ്മപുത്രരേ സമീപിച്ച് തന്നൂടെ മാതുലൻ ശകുനിയോടൊപ്പം ചൂതു കളിച്ചു കാണാൻ ആഗ്രഹം അറിയിക്കുന്നു. ചൂതിന് ആവശ്യമായ പണയം താൻ നൽകിക്കൊള്ളാം എന്ന് ദുര്യോധനൻ വാക്ക് കൊടുക്കുന്നു. അക്കാലം രാജനീതിയുടെ ഭാഗമാണ് ചൂതുകളിയും അതിനുള്ള ക്ഷണവും. ധർമ്മപുത്രർ ചൂതു കളിക്കാൻ സമ്മതിക്കുന്നു. ശരിയായ കളി ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു.
ചൂതുകളിയിൽ ധർമ്മപുത്രർ തുടരെ പരാജയപ്പെടുന്നു. രാജ്യ സേനകൾ, ആയുധങ്ങൾ, മന്ത്രിമാർ, രാജ്യം, സഹോദരങ്ങൾ, എന്ന ക്രമത്തിൽ ശകുനിയുടെ കള്ളച്ചൂതിലൂടെ നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നു. അവസാനം, ധർമ്മ പുത്രരും പഞ്ചാലിയും പണയപ്പെട്ട് പരാജയം ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങുന്നു.

Duryodhana approached the Pandava King Dharmaputra and expressed his wish to see him gambling with Sakuni, his Uncle. Duryodhana promises that he will give the required pledge for the Gambling. At that time, gambling and invitations were part of royal justice & esteem. Thus Dharmaputra agrees for gambling. Actual Game started.
Dharmaputra keeps on losing continuously in the gambling. The forces of the kingdom, arms, ministers, kingdom itself, brothers, in that order are lost through Shakuni's forgery in the play. In the end, Dharmaputra lost and surrendered losing himself and Panchali.
