I am an Eritrean, but I had been in Addis for 3 years. I used to discuss about politics including Asseb with many Ethiopian and I understood one thing: most Ethiopians they don't know the reality about Eritrea. They think Eritrea is separated due to the good will of TPLF and EPLF. But not; 99.9% of Eritreans voted for independence. Eritrea is now independent country and Asseb is part of this seveirnity. Eritrea and Ethiopia are different countries but they can grow together by sharing their resources mutually. Not few politicians in Ethiopia are salivating their people by promising they return Asseb back to Ethiopia. This is just a mockery to satisfy their power hunger. Pls Ethiopian brothers and sisters, Asseb is part of Eritrea, period!!! Those two peoples are similar in all aspects, however like most African countries the colonial boundaries devided those two brothers. War or political propaganda will not heal this wound, but love can. Kudos for this man, he is intelligent and truly understands the reality.

They are living hard life in camps or towns without work permit. Not only eritrean are in Ethiopia; there are thousands of immigrants from Yemen, S.sudan, Syria.....Eritreans are not different from the others and not getting especially treatment as well. Immigration is a natural process; either for political or economic reasons. Do you know how many thousands Ethiopian soldiers returned to Ethiopia from Eritrea recently? Do you know how many Ethiopians are in the Middle East countries, in S.Africa. immigration is inevitably. On the other hand why the Ethiopian government is recieving immigrants from here and there to a nation already overpopulated. To give a tiny example: In 2017 the European Union gave 500 million Euro to Ethiopia government for supporting immigrants 😮😮. Those immigrants are getting 1 kilo sugar, 1 litres oil and 5 kilo wheat per month from the UNHCR ( not from Ethiopian government). So who is taking advantage of the situation? The immigrants or the Ethiopian government? I am not trying to bargain or underestimate the role of Ethiopia government. I am just clearying your word " taking advantage". The Eritrean and Ethiopian people will not stop flooding to one an other. Since they are connected by marriage, identity, culture, religion, and geography. Mr Abeet77, I know facts are painful but 100 dreams can not make a single reality. This is what Dr Dereje trying to point out. Is it Asseb really important for Ethiopia as the politicians saying? Nagasso kadir, there are multiple ways Eritrea and Ethiopia can come together. You have already tried by war, it didn't work, except losing lifes and resources. There is no legal way to return a country back once it is independent state. The only possible way is through peaceful process, working on the common interests, respecting each others values and bringing the people to decide on its matter. My point is: every Ethiopian should understand the reality about Eritrea and Asseb instead of hallucinating on never ending dream and swallowing the false promises of politicians. This is first step for the healthy relationship of both countries. I don't support exploitation, if there were such things, it was wrong. Like MrAbeet77 said, now Ethiopia should focus on its domestic issues , need to stand strong as one nation. Once the national integrity is maintained, the relationship with neighbors can be achieved in beneficial way.
There are domestic problems in both countries. With the current political leaders, I don't think a healthy relationships can be done. We need leaders who love thier poeple before their personal interest, leaders who correct history.
