This is why I put my favorite RU-vid cleaner/organizer channels on when I'm cleaning, it does help.

It’s not accountability for me. It is essential for self motivation...a propeller so to speak. Bottom line, it makes me feel better and secure.

Don’t need them to do it too- just provide another presence (like the safety of a herd) when I am doing something I feel vulnerable about doing (maybe it’s hard, abnormal or I think I might not be good at it)

My interpretation would be like parallel play, there is somebody there so you don't feel alone and can do the task. Useful.

I only started hearing about this recently, I think it's an amazing thing and know personally it really helps. But recently I've been learning about childhood development and children learn a lot through co-regulation, which is when an adult assists a child through understanding, noticing and responding to their emotions. It's crazy to see the think how people who didn't have their support as a child can often grow up to have these challenges

I feel you hit the nail on the head for me. That is a point that needs to be brought up again

maybe? I was one of those kids whose parents worked at home and my mom sat next to me while I was working a lot, kindergarten through college. I had very involved hands on parenting and I STILL prefer having someone next to me. They never had to sit next to me. Often I would choose to sit down at the kitchen table or in the living room to do my work as that's where everyone else was and I enjoyed their presence.

I struggled so hard to clean my room as a kid. I always just felt... stuck. I remember regularly thinking, "I wish someone would just come sit in here with me while I clean," like I knew it would help, but I didn't know why. Learning about body doubling years later was a huge a-ha moment!

Not accountability for me, either. It’s something about feeling supported. Having someone next to me to do the same thing but also judging me about how I’m doing it = frick this, I have other important tasks that aren’t miserable. And sometimes it’s literally a stimulation without over stimulation.

I'm the opposite. I can't do anything if someone is there distracting me or possibly watching me.
