People didn't know he was gay? I mean, gaydar is screaming.

This guy should be ashamed of himself for what he put kids through for years.

Glad he has come out and admitted he was so wrong. He now needs to spend the rest of his life atoning for the evil he perpetrated.

This piece of garbage made himself rich off of torture. His victims should be allowed to sue him for damages. I wish they could prosecute him.

Good for him but I can't help but resent the massive harm he inflicted. Utah has astronomical rates of teen suicide, largely due to how LGBT folks are treated. I'm glad he's being his true self and he does seem sorry but it's just so heart-breaking and maddening

My heart goes out to the LGBT community because of people like this. He barely feels remorseful. He talks about it in a way like he's taking about the cringey stuff you did in middle school or the drunken mistakes you did in college. He is literally responsible for the trauma (and deaths) of many innocent people. He can never wash off the blood on his hands but he should spend every day of his life fighting the vile hate he propagated if he has a chance of redemption

All you need is one man's self-loathing to screw up other people's lives. He should be held responsible for all the damage he's done to all his victims.

Conversation therapy is now banned in Canada. It was passed unanimously with no opposition whatsoever.

I was sent to conversion therapy in my early 20's and my therapist was SOOO HOT! I clicked on this hoping it was him. It's not. :(

Two weeks ago, I learned a very bad news that one of our students our elementary school, new to junior highschool, committed suicide by slitting her veins, in her room, when no member of the family was in the house. This young girl realized that she was a lesbian and talked about it in the class when the subject of the debate was on the question of physical or sexual difference in our society. I learned that her parents intended to take her into one of her outgoing converting establishments. This man repends himself today when for 30 years he has done nothing but destroy poor young people by hammering them that their sexuality was not suitable and that they could change it. He can say whatever he wants, convince himself that he can change and be forgiven, but the harm he has caused will always be present. My thoughts are with all these young victims of ignorance, fear and hatred of these miserable adults. To all these beautiful souls, rest in peace my little angels. P.S: To you who is still struggling with your sexuality, know that you are perfect as you are and that no one has the right to say that what you feel is bad. It's not bad on the contrary it's a wonderful and beautiful part of you. I send you all my positive vibes and all my love. Love is Love ❤

I had a therapist tell me after a suicide attempt. That I was confused and I didn’t understand life the right way because I mentioned off handedly that I’m bi. Her expression changed and she seemed very confident in telling about programs that could help understand my “feelings” better. Gotta love the Utah cult. Seems everyone here is in closet

Good luck ever getting the respect of a Gay man like myself.

He is in just another state of denial refusing to take responsibility for reparation. Waves of pain and misery emanate from him in all directions.

I don’t think he’s sorry. He knew the therapy wouldn’t work.. not even on himself. To live his truth, he had to come out again. And now he’s not agreeing to conversion therapy. Is he really sorry? He should be charged and spend time behind bars for the lives he’s negatively impacted.

Although I'm ashamed and disappointed of what he has done in the past: 1) I'm happy that he has come out 2) It's good to see that he realised his wrongdoings

This guy is pure bs. He always knew what his "therapy" was, just decided to make a cottage industry out of it.

He did a lot of damage it’s hard to forgive. To say he was “a part of” is a real minimisation

he's a murderer, he should be spending every second of his life trying to help others. instead, he's making excuses and dodging the questions. he won't denounce conversion "therapy" as a whole.

Why change something natural that doesn't affect anything negativly?

I absolutely cannot stand people like this. He drove countless men to suicide. He sadistically forced other men into lives of misery. Call him what he really is. Psychopath. Serial killer. He has zero regard for human life. The media fawns over him. “Oh he’s so brave! Such an inspiration!” But what about the men he drove to suicide? When will this fool visit their graves? When will he say their names? Sadly he is so entitled that he cannot see beyond his own immediate gratification. He wants to be accepted into the gay community with open arms. He doesn’t want to endure even a second of what he forced onto others.

This man should be in jail. Men like him have blood on their hands from all the young people who committed suicide.

He basically wasted his whole life so far and many others. What a terrible human being he is, absolutely disgusting. He should be ashamed.

This is one of the most destructive people ever to be exposed.

So many families and friends have lots their loved ones by suicide because of people like him. On the other hand I feel semi bad for him because he felt he had to hate his true self in order to "fit in". May he realize the pain he perpetuated and find a center in himself.

Although he’s contributed a lot of pain, but I’m so thankful he’s coming out and saying it’s ok to be gay. I wonder what finally made him stop.

What we need is religious conversation therapy.

I struggles with my own serious internalised homophobia and biphobia for years and years however I NEVER took it out on other people. This man may have been struggling himself but that does not negate the severe psychological damage he had on others and he should get jail time.

The way he said he was sorry was the most insincere I’ve ever seen someone behave.... no regret whatsoever.

The leading cause of teen suicide is inner conflict with sexuality. Please be kind to others, your words can hurt and kill.

How do you, as a trained therapist, sexually abuse people by forcing nudity and "touching" despite vocal protests, and not recognize it as abuse??

Religion is a way for people to justify their homophobia. I've learned to steer clear of organized religion and live my life in a way that finds me true happiness.

Just wait till the thousands of people harmed over many years by his ideas and actions decide to hold him legally liable for that harm. Immeasurable suffering. Lives destroyed. Suicides. Saying "Ooops" is not enough.

Good on him for coming out but he is dismissing how big of a hand he had in so much trauma and damage and that is NOT okay or excusable. It's clear he isn't going to accept that responsibility any time soon 😔

He's been so inauthentic for so many years, that he still remains that way, even under the guise of being real now..(out).. I think he doesn't think he's gay enough, so is overcompensating I don't know if that makes sense, but I still get the feeling that we're looking at a fraud

Bravo to Mr. Matheson for changing his mind when presented with experience and information. I appreciate his renunciation of his prior beliefs and actions. The video says that he renounced his book. He's come a long way. I can't fault him for not being a super-champion - I think he's doing his best, as are we all.

This man needs to held accountable. thank you for standing up and saying what is true. lots of people that I know of Killed themselves because of what u say. I listened to this man's words. 30 years ago I came out which for me included leaving my wife and kids. Being honest was the best thing possible. But then I heard I heard this mans words. He would use scripture. I permanetly lost my relationship with my kids and consequently my grandkids. When I went into conversation therapy I abandoned and threw out all friends including their phone numbers. I had a lot of gay friends. Now I am told 3 years ago that I have ALS which is fatal. I backed away from all of christianity and now I am totally alone. I do not know where this man lives or how he has healed or how is helped others heal but I am still very angry i. e. my bp goes up.

I am struggling to take this in. Did he really believe that he could put groups of men off homosexuality by have group nudity among the gay men????!!!! I am totally not getting how anyone could have through such a thing would work! If you get a group of gay men naked together . . . . . it sounds like a bathhouse to me! The hetero people he was working with should have seen through that immediately! I am struggling to understand how this could be happening. You don't put someone off sugar addiction by giving them open bags of chocolates.

Regret is far from enough to expect forgiveness for the people he hurt emotionally and spiritually...not to mention those who took their own lives. A lot of blood is on his hands, and I do not think the LGBTQ community should forgive what he did to us. Men like him make me very angry and discussed. I am sure down the road we will see him end up with a wonderful partner/lover, and get to live the life he denied to others through his lies and deception. SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!

So he DIDN'T feel that sexual orientation can changed even as he was saying it could be?! Now all of a sudden he feels that it can't be changed?! WTF. He has a lot to answer for and I"m not sure if he can.

To give him credit, When he figured out it was wrong he went public and was honest about it. And he seems to hate himself for it too. Him helping dismanting that system is a first step. And he is so true about the cringe in some programs.

He is a trained therapist and didn't detect the failure of his therapy. What does that say about therapeutic training?

I’ve known a lot of my friends are gay before they’ve known themselves, even when they’ve been in relationships with girls, and one was homophobic to the tenth degree, took him and his BF 2 years to become pubic and I was the only one who knew and I didn’t tell a soul, they only came out after trusting a best pal who told everyone, xxx

Therapist. Read “Freud” by Crews. A telling biography. At the end of his career, Freud said that he did not think he cured anyone, but he sure did like the money.

There are no categoirical words to describe this man and his harmful beliefs. I can only hope for the men who become his lover and mate, Beware. He has harmed others and he will harm you.
