To the question of why they didn't think Vaghar wouldn't be there: they were keeping her at King's Landing to protect home base from Dragon Stone.

I think Rhaenys' decision to go back and not burn them in season 1 has to do with her conviction about not killing family. She wants the Blacks to win, but she didn't necessarily want Aegon and Aemond to die. So in that context, I think the fact that Aemond went after Aegon pissed her off. She was like 'oh, no, if he will go after his own brother, he will kill everyone. I have to try to stop him.'

My take on Rhaenys turning back is that she saw Vhaegar crash and figured there was no better time to finish him off if he was ever hobbled badly from the crash. She's coming from above and it's not far-fetched to think that a strategic strike to Vhaegar and taking it out when he's most vulnerable pretty much ends the war then and there.

Regarding the Harrenhal of it all, when Alys tells him to get some sleep in order to win the castle, I think she means literally. As y'all pointed out, the beds are made of the weirwood trees, ones that were disrespectfully chopped down- perfect recipe for ghosts. That potion definitely had red weirwood sap ( I thought that's what she was licking off her fingers), so I think that was a potion for connection. It feels like Daemon's trauma hallucinations are an initiation ritual to see if he's worthy- they gotta know he feels remorse. Just got to the Moon Tea discussion. Jace is a badass through and through, was my favorite when reading the book and in the show now, great leader, honorable, brave, smart, he's the Robb Stark of this era.

I think Alicent showed no decorum with Aegon, because he is a big dum-dum baby and she's an exasperated mother, she was reeling still from her Moon Tea/at home abortion (hot stones to both ease the cramping and ensure she doesn't have a failed Moon Tea pregnancy), all the grief she hasn't yet been able to express (as she told Larys) for the deaths of Viserys and her grandson, for a Helaena's trauma, and for her Dad getting ousted as Hand, for her relationship with Criston ending as he's riding off to war with her brother, plus she's rather drunk herself as evidenced by all the wine refills in the small council meeting and the empty jug Aegon pushes off the table like a naughty kitten, so yeah, she's under so much stress, her losing her shit at Aegon is the same as any human mother after a hard day of work, being in severe uterine pain, and her family have all lost their GD minds and are drunk-flying hither and yon without a good plan and embarrassing themselves in front of the whole town. She's furious, she's frightened, she's grieving, she's in physical pain, and she's had one too many in an attempt to self-medicate, so she dropped the bullshit decorum and had a real human moment of fucking up in the heat of the moment. Cut her a break. No one else has!

As much as I hate to admit it, this was a smart plan by Criston. I’m sure the Blacks would not expect the Greens to pull Vhagar outside of Kings Landing. I’m curious how Vhagar made it there unnoticed. Did they fly only at night? I assume ground transport was not a possibility??

Blood and Fire states that Meleys can beat Vhagar in a 1v1, Meleys is younger, faster, fitter, almost as dangerous. She could have won the 1v1, she just lost this one, Vhagar is not indestructible.

The fact that Meleys did cause some damage to Vhagar and brought her to the ground supports Daemon's plan to have Meleys and Caraxes attack Vhagar - the two of them would have defeated her. Van to answer your question, the “heir” gets coddled and pampered to ensure the lineage while the ones behind them typically get to train harder and have more drive to prove themselves and be “seen” and steal just a little bit of spotlight from their older brother

They didn’t let Rhaenys have one scene talking to her grand daughters. I hope they stop skipping over immediate reactions and let the characters grieve. Especially with the younger generation. George did so good writing the outline of Daemon’s kids in Fire & Blood, I really hope they get more screentime. I like how he paralleled them to the Stark kids with Baela/Arya Rhaena/Sansa Aegon/Bran Viserys/Rickon and even Harwin’s son Jace with Jon but Daemon is so different from Ned 😂😂 Rhaena’s egg is supposed to be pink I hope they don’t change that and actually give her a pink one that’s the only dragon I was looking forward to. She named the pink one Morning to juxtapose Baela’s Moondancer and I thought it was so cute

Yes alicent could have been more gentle with ageon in that moment. But no matter what she said he still was at a boiling point for the lack of respect he received. I felt bad for him because no matter how bad he was nobody wants to feel worthless.

There’s no way Aemond would have just let Rhaenys take off without pursuing her, she was gonna have to face Vagar regardless once Aemond arrived

Nah Van. Rhaenys had a good chance of taking Vhegar out if it wasn't for the sunfire fight. Not as big, but pretty big. Way more mobile. There is a reason the biggest dragon in the realm went for a sneak attack to end it.

The Princess Rhaenys went to Rook's Rest and stayed at Rook's Rest bcuz she knew had she turned around and left Rhaenyra mind as well had threw her crown in the garbage. Ammond and Christon plan was to lure the Blacks dragons to attack the army. They have more dragon riders so Vhagar is hidden to wipe out dragons and their riders. The Greens have no dragon game as Vhagar cannot be in 2 places at once.
