Is that a Red Deluxe FE cab near the signal box? Excellent representation - As a child I used to get the tram from Maroubra Beach which joined up to your tram line travelling along Anzac Parade at Maroubra Junction.

Johno advises sheet copper for the bodies, soldered with a blowtorch and soldering iron. Brass for trucks, poles, lifeguards, couplers, and trolley wheels. “O” trucks are .9mm gal sheet steel.

Yes, great models. Re Shooting Through, it actually dates from the steam tram days before the electrics replaced them. Apparently one or more late night runs to Bondi from the city went at breakneck speed, thus the term which in fact means since then, anybody who makes a rather hasty retreat from wherever.
@@tressteleg1 in the non soccer loving part of the world that equates to a bit better than 11' x 4'. It's O scale so it's going to be big. Great looking layout by the way.
Thanks. It does fill up most of a reasonably large room inside the house. When I wrote that reply I was already in bed and was not going to get up and do the conversion. Yes, it certainly is great looking. So much detail and so accurately representing Sydney with street furniture like the signal box and waiting shed, not to mention the depot. Until the 1930s, Sydney’s tramway was part of the state government railways so everything was done from the railway point of view, not that of a usual Tramway.
You know what would be really good on this layout? - a black and white photographic backdrop of La Perouse via Malabar street scenes at the time of modelling. I wonder where you might find such a thing? The colour of the trams on the black and white backdrop should work well. I don't know where that came from lol. I just clicked on your vid, saw the trams and voila!
It’s not my layout but I will send your suggestion on to the builder. For my layout, see Gold Coast Model Trams but don’t expect any constructed scenery. It has ever-changing natural scenery.
Now, is this true "O" Scale? It looks a lot like the layout that was published in AMRM recently which was slightly larger than O. I mean 1 to 43 Scale O ( 7mm to 12") not some variant. Regardless, It is fantastic and thank you for posting. It does not appear to be DCC but I may be wrong, just the headlights not being on all the time appears odd for DCC. There are other O scale modellers out there, I just wish they would post some brag shots pease. Well done, and thank you.
I’m sure Johno said that is layout had been published in the magazine, so whatever you read would be correct. I should have taken a scene or two of him driving. He had a panel with two little controller handles. He said a mate had build it for him but I know no further details except that it has two transformers, I believe. As for the rear headlights, at the time they were built, maybe 30 years ago, he did not know about the use of diodes. I only went to visit him because I had to take another friend to see the layout and took my video camera along thinking that it would be a nice topic for my RU-vid channel. When I got there, he said he would like to get his Tramway on RU-vid one day, so this meeting satisfied the needs of both of us. Unfortunately with the passing of time, few young people are taking on modelling of anything these days. Eventually the hobby is likely to die out altogether. I can’t remember the last time I saw a model Tramway at any exhibition in Brisbane, Sydney, or Melbourne.

The owner lives in north-eastern NSW. He built his own models and as far as I know you will have to do the same to get one. There is someone who produces O scale models but I don’t know the company name or if a P has been produced. In the 1970s I built my own P to 1:24 scale. They're 'O gauge', not 'O scale'. It works by the gauge of the track, not the size of the tram. Next thing you'll be calling them 'class' instead of 'type'. Sydney trams were 'types' i.e. O Type, P Type and R Type, where as Melbourne trams were class i.e. W1 Class, W2 Class, Z Class...etc!
