Men at Work are an Australian band, that's why Koala. This is a great song! "Down Under" and "the land down under" is a nickname for Australia. Another great song of theirs is "Who can it be now"

This song was the nr 1 on most music charts including USA in 1983 , now considered a national song of Australia next to their national anthem . Love Men At Work. Also down under is slang for Australia ( since it’s in Southern Hemisphere) . Vegemite sandwich is an Australian food , most outsiders can’t stand but beloved by Australians. Aussie is a term for being Australian .
@jean-paulaudette9246
@jean-paulaudette9246 Год назад
Funny thing about Vegemite: I tasted it once on a dare, and it was easily the most vile and revolting flavor i'd ever had in my mouth--even including spoiled nuts. Then, after about five days, i started craving it, as if it satisfied some deep, hitherto unknown bodily need. I've never been able to have it again, and the craving has never quite disappeared.

The song’s about Australians traveling the world, and everywhere they go they meet other Aussies, but there’s also a subtext in the video about overdevelopment. The flute solo actually quotes the Australian children’s song “Kookaburra in the old gum tree”, which sadly resulted in the band being taken to court by the copyright owner of that song, and had to pay a ridiculous amount as a result (a travesty, if you ask me, seeing as the tune is traditional for a number of songs). This was a massive hit in the 80s, and very much an anthem for Australia. The band had a lot of great songs, some quirky, others more serious, all worth checking out.

@Brian Carr Yeah, I read a report about his suicide, and while he was dealing with depression at the time, what really hurt him was the idea people were thought he deliberately stole that flute line from the song. He thought it was a traditional folk song, and thus available for use. He had no idea it was copyrighted. Most Australians at the time didn't realize that the Kookaburra song was copyrighted.

Men At Work were an Australian pop rock band from the 80's... "Down under" was written about how Australians are treated in foreign countries... 😂'The land down under' refers to Australia. The music video was from an era when the MTV format was still developing. If u want weird, really weird songs... anything by Peter Gabriel - 'Sledge hammer'... "I don't remember"... I am very happy to see you enjoyed it as much as you did not to mention got comments from your Australian fans as well. As you can see it was and still is very popular in the USA and obviously down under in Australia. As someone else said it was very big on MTV in the early 1980’s when they mostly showed/played music. It was also part of the Australian “invasion” of the USA in pop culture along with the movie Crocodile Dundee in 1986. I highly recommend you watch that movie if you have never seen it before. They tend to play this song at every Australian national team soccer match. They even play it in stadiums all over the world when we play away, like when we won the World Cup playoff against Peru in Qatar a year or so ago. Its a fun song that brings people together to celebrate our national identity in a very proud and positive way while having a laugh and not taking ourselves too seriously. I think this song will still be seen to represent Australian identity to the same degree in 100 year's time to be honest, given its continued popularity 40 years on. There are hidden and more obvious elements of the song that reference Australia, like the guy in Brussels who serves them Vegemite for breakfast, or the tune played on the flute that lets just say sounds like a familiar children's song about the Kookaburra for controversy's sake. P.S. a Kookaburra is a bird that is almost as iconic as the Koala or Kangaroo for Australians but not many people from overseas tend to know - it is the only bird on Earth that laughs!

Land down under where women glow and men plunder is Australia, and the song is about Australians meeting each other in strange places all over the world as most australians travel a lot., This song was released but did badly, then it was released afetr a yacht race called the americas cup which was the longest time a single nation were the only winners in history, over 120 years. They did this by sinking millions of dollars into their boat, bending and changing rules whenever they pleased and suing everyone they thought might win. Then west Australians built a radical new yacht, played this song loudly every race (best of 5 races wins) as they went to the starting line. Australia won the race took the giant ornate americas cup back to Australia where they planned to run it over with a truck and call it the Australia plate. Thats why the song was so popular as every Australian stayed up every night watching the wins

Head full of zombie means smoking weed (marijuana), and men chunder is Australian slang for drinking until you puke (throw up). So essentially, it's a song about getting wasted and drunk.
@Algebruh2407
@Algebruh2407 3 месяца назад
It's a song being critical of the way that Australia was selling out it's identity and culture in the 70s to the Americans. The song follows a bunch of Australian hippies traveling around the world where they meet people who are interested in Australia where they have heard about aspects of Australian culture (such as women glowing from the tans they get and Australia's alcohol culture where it is acceptable to get completely wasted at the pub), where it serves as a basis for the message of not killing off the culture that Australia is known for.
@genehornung3295
@genehornung3295 3 месяца назад
@@Algebruh2407 What Colin Hay actually said was "The chorus was really about the selling of Australia in many ways, the overdevelopment of the country. It was a song about the loss of spirit in that country. It's really about the plundering of the country by greedy people. It is ultimately about celebrating the country, but not in a nationalistic way and not in a flag-waving sense. It's really more than that." He didn't say anything about the U.S. However, despite what he meant when he wrote it, many Australians think of it as a great song about partying and enjoying life in their country, and have adopted it as their unofficial national anthem. 'Cocaine' was written as an anti-drug song, but was considered an anthem for coke users by most people when it became a hit for Eric Clapton, even though he didn't write it.

Australia is like 90% desert, people tend to live around the coastline as the best way to use water. Except for two places Alice springs literally in the middle of Australia built by the American government for military personnel and their families as a satellite monitoring station. Alice springs is monitoring much of Asia and Russia. London is monitoring continental Europe including Ukraine. Washington DC monitors the entire north and South American continents. Basically no one can hide what they are doing. The other place near the center of Australia is cooper pedy a opal mining area where people are forced to dig out their own homes due to the insane heat in that area. Cooper pedy even has a full shopping mall craved underground and it’s a nice place as opals sell for a lot and any work that they do automatically gives them opals which they sell to suppliers for a very high price.

Its about Australia. Down under means Australia because its the other side of the world from the UK, its mother country.

Listen to Heilung's 'Krigsgaldr'. It's really cool. The group learned the viking song, made the instruments and costumes! The female lead is incredible!!! PS - you're BEAUTIFUL!!! 😍😍😍
