In depth process video of making my new linocut print „tempus fugit“: From sketching and drawing to the carving and the final printmaking.
A little reminder that everything continues to change and nothing is permanent …
You can buy one of the 100 limited prints here: eastofawesome.com/shop/prints...
Materials I used
===========================
(or similar stuff I could find links to)
- Photo Transfer Podge: amzn.to/3Kx6uS9
(For transferring laserprints to the linoleum)
- Meditations Book (new Hays translation): amzn.to/3KrTr4i
(to get rid of glue bubbles)
- PFEIL"Swiss Made" Knife Set: amzn.to/37x3UwN
(I did buy each of my 3 knifes separately in a local store but single blades seem quite pricey on US Amazon so I would rather go for this set)
- Mikisyo Power Grip Carving Tools: amzn.to/3LTWylL
(Alternative cheaper set I would go for. Haven‘t tried it, but heard good things about it)
- Fallkniven DC4 Sharpening stone: amzn.to/3utoF5n
(My preferred overall sharpening stone)
- Stropping Compound: amzn.to/3uqNJtT
(best used with a self-made stropping block: just find a piece of leather and glue it on a woodboard. Done)
- Big Soft Rubber Brayer (6-Inch): amzn.to/3uwrYJ2
- Japanese printing baren: amzn.to/3rijgfG

Thank you for this! The commentary, video, and visuals were really engaging. I'm starting to dabble into linocut and I'm so stoked to stumble on your channel. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of how you edited your video--the pacing, the angles, and of course, the artistry. Art on, my friend, art on. Cheers!

Hey Emils, thank you so much! I have been following your work for quite a while and you were a big inspiration when I started getting more into linocutting. So, thanks again and see you soon! ✌️

I like it very much. And find it very relatable😄 I only can't get over the proportions of one of her arms - the one stretching down.

Thanks for the nice words! yeah, I wasn't that sure with the pose to beginn with, that's why I took the reference picture. But you are right, it still looks a bit off. Maybe it's part of the lore ... like you know: holding all of time gets kinda heavy with time or something ... 😅

Hi, lovely work. I'm interested in your old (laundry?) press there. It looks like a wooden roller? If so, how does it hold up to printing? Can it provide enough pressure for say an etching? Thanks!

Hey Carlos, thanks for your comment. As you already did find out I have a separate video on the press itself. I‘ll continue with answering your comment there ✌️

One more thing. Don’t take this wrong. But in all the videos I’ve watched (block / lino / etc) whenever I see sharp tools and bandaids I LOL

Haha, yes I totally get it. Fun fact: I had different wounds on my hand at the time I was working on this piece but not once did I cut myself with the linocut tools. Working all day with this sharp knifes but managed to cut myself with a breaking sewing needle and while cooking in the kitchen and stuff like that 😅

Seen few posts. Nice work. Getting into block press art. Do you offer service to draw pictures? I could Adobe myself but curious. For sale of course. Thanks in advance.

Great video! What was the liquid that you used to get rid of the paper when transferring the photo onto the Linoleum? I know the "glue" is mod podge :D
@xj3233
@xj3233 2 года назад
oh and is the paper you got from the copy shop anything special or just normal printing paper?
@eastofawesome
@eastofawesome 2 года назад
The glue stuff I used is labeled "photo podge" but I think it might also work with regular mod podge. I'll try that next time. (or you tell me in case you try it first ✌️)

The copy paper I used for the first test print is just normal 80g copy/printing paper. The paper I used for the real prints is a special handmade paper I buy at the local art store. Ah and to remove the paper you use just plain water.
