That final scene was fantastic in that it's the gift that keeps giving. It's drawn the viewers into the piece in a subjective manner the way fine art pieces do.

Terrorists detonated a nuke in the harbor. It had been mentioned in an earlier episode as a "what if." They all died in the blast, never knew what hit 'em.

This comes up every year. Chase does some interview and they ask that question and get an answer that contradicts what he said before. Been the same routine for 13 years. Whatever.

Yeah which makes David Chase is a genius. He has stretched this ending out for 13 years and people are still debating it. He knows what he is doing in every single interview. I hope The Many Saints of Newark makes it even more of a discussion.

Carmela had a tragically fatal brain aneurysm. That is the sound that could be heared at the end. It’s so obvious. Why can’t people see that?

I didn't realize this was still a debate. I thought someone close to the show said the cut to black was Tony getting shot in the back of the head. Either way, its funny they're still arguing about it.

I think everyone is stretching this comment by David Chase WAY too far. One of three things could happened -- the audience gets whacked, Tony gets whacked, Tony dies of a health-related event, or Tony decides to go completely clean right then and there. Trying to decipher David Chase's interviews as a clue to the ending is ridiculous.

Who could’ve killed him? He made peace with the new boss of NY and then had the guys who wanted to kill him whacked. He was in the clear at the point where the screen goes black. The only thing I thought could happen is now the FBI knows Tony had the NY boss whacked because they slipped his location.

I think the ending was meant to encapsulate the lifestyle the Sopranos lived. Tony always has to look over his shoulder- his success comes at a cost. He could be killed or arrested at any time...

Also, Carlo was going to Testify. Tony dying in prison seemed more likely than a random killing in the diner.

If you whack anyone in the mob then that means retaliation is coming. Tony took an insane amount of wins leading up to that scene. Why would no one in the mob care that a wise guy who isn’t even a real Italian who proclaims himself a boss without being sworn in to the real mob eff the whole mob game up!?!?!?!? How would he get away with that?

“Death scene” could mean the death of the viewer. The viewer knows too much. The view of the audience goes black, not Tony’s. The viewer got whacked, not Tony.
