Well done 👏🏾 The airport one is an embarrassment on the nation. Custom officers, immigration officers and other airport officials beg travellers like they don’t eat. What is this! The President must be told to crack the whip at the airport….even airport form filling u see immigration officials begging for money. It’s so disturbing and disgusting!
I’m laughing. I was in Ghana in February this year and all I can say is that Ghana should be proud. The airport is beautiful with well dressed officials in the airport.
This is soo true. When you’re leaving the country, they ask you to give them all the cedis you have since you wouldn’t need them outside the country. When you enter too, they ask for dollars, thinking you’re coming in with so much money. It’s disgraceful, especially when airport staff are being paid. They must stop this, one lady literally followed me all around for over 30 mins. It’s very frustrating and annoying. It must stop!!!
The same thing happened to me. The airport begging is a shame. They asked money right when you get to customs until you get to your car. Its a shame. Government should do something about it.
I was travelling out of Ghana one time and during security checks, one guy said my cabin luggage which was even less than 7kg was big so I should pay for it. I told him if I pay for it, we go to the airline check in counter and weigh. If it’s less than 7kg he is going to pay double of what he is seeking for. He then told me he was joking. That's what they do there so if you are not hard on them hmmm🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I live in Belgium and people go around the trein with notes stating that they're poor and they need to feed their children and when they come back to collect their notes they expect you to give them money. Begging is a problem everywhere in the world.
I understand the situation at Belgium. It's in the United states also BUT never will you see an airport staff beg you for money anywhere overseas... Its considered unprofessional and you will loose your job.
It's sad, I was on my way to SA and the immigration officer was like s3 wo k) vacation. Menso y3 me fine. Its embarrassing. I would say it's an African behaviour because Nigerian immigration did same and SA airport workers are not excluded.
I went to a restaurant at oyibi and I dashed the first server the change of about 4cedis. We later ordered a drink to go and the other lady server felt she was entitled to my change cos I gave the other guy my change. The face she gave me when I asked for my change. Siasem
Honestly the rate at which the workers at kotoka beg for money is really it cool and they make you feel soo bad if you are unable to give them … coming or leaving the country . I experienced it once and since then I always travel with smaller denominations. It’s crazy 🤦🏽♀️
It’s quite funny 😂😂 I remember last year when leaving the country, this staff at Airport was like chairman socket me some coins cuz ibi me go give you a comfortable seat on your flight. I watched him and laughed 😂😂 chairman dey vibe me
The same thing happened to me last year. I went to pee, and this man started begging for money. My luggage didn't come the same day I arrived and I have to go to the airport every day, to check if the luggage has arrived, they will tell you no but asked to drop something small for my bags to be prioritised when it arrives they will call me EIII... The say I was leaving one woman also came to give me a story that I should help her with some money to Kasoa because her relative didn't give her T&T before he left. This year, I am coming again, and I won't give anybody money at the airport. Unless it touches my heart to give you, if not lie lie😂😂😂😂
Same thing has been happening to me last December, when i was leaving Ghana, the immigration officers were demanding for "BROYA ADEI", they did not even check the validity of my passport even though you're supposed to travel with less than 6mnt validity. My passport was having only 2mnt and 8days. SIKA GYE BASABASA
Talk about the wrapping of bags. Ghana airport has made wrapping compulsory, just for the money. last year a lady at the secuirity point told me to give my wallet and money to her before taking my flight. My german friend came to visit, in ghana. When I went to fetch her from the airpot we were harrassed by the security men. They asked me to settle them bcos they protected her at the airport.
It's embarrassing. You land at Kotoka and before you exit the aiport there's 5 levels of beggars. The last door exit, officials are even begging. Ah! The woman checking your passport is BEGGING TOO! Even when you go to pharmacy to buy tooth paste, the clerk is asking you for money. 😂
Jesus in Nigeria too especially that Lagos airport, you will pay the bathroom ladies to use tissues so I do take mine to that place. Then the begging continues until you exit. Once I get there my face change to something else that they see the frustration and don’t beg because I got no time for nonsense. They pay them but they kept begging whatristhis.
The begging at these places is a reflection of the mindset of Ghanaians in general. Look at how your extended family deals with you when they assume you have now got money. Charity really begins at home when it comes to Ghanaians.
It's very shameful. Some happened to me and I was like what's all this. They don't even want to know what you have been through or the reason why you are back to the country. Infact the authorities have to do something about it.
Ei Scanty. This is a disgraceful thing happening here. Many students traveling abroad have been complaining of this and the surprising thing is that, the foreign immigration officers receiving them don't even take them through this shameful thing. Africa is it's own enemy!
My brother is normal in Ghana airport. When I came back from Sweden to Ghana. Even immigration officer begging for money. Some of them asking you.what did you bring to them 😅😅😅
It’s true it’s so bad. In 2019, a TSA official asked me to give her one of my gum packs that I bought for someone while searching through my stuff. It’s sad
The situation at the Kotoka international Airport and some airports in Africa is disgusting and a shame to the countries they represent. If am travelling overseas or coming to Ghana, how the heck should you feel entitled to what i have in my pocket? Do i owe you? Am i responsible for you? Aside most of them stealing from peoples luggages, they also feel traveller's owe them a piece of the case. Nonsense. Unprofessionalism at its peak. These guys are very rich and own big properties and drive the best of cars yet act so disgustingly as beggers in a place like the airport cus some *obibini* prefers fast and cheap ways to make money. It's sickening seeing a whole immigration officers in a national uniform begging for money and those loitering the airport in black and white clothes all in the name of assisting people is a great embarrassment. Even if they offer you pen to write, they ask for money. Because of this, they dont even execute their job descriptions. These guys are literally extorting money in broad day light. That's illegal. These are the kind of things we normalize and when they find themselves in bigger offices, they go on and steal from national coffers without accountability.
I am a woman and during my visit to GH in 2021 when the boarders opened. A man stopped me in front of the ladies restroom. Being soo scared not knowing what he could do to me, I reached out of my bag and gave him $20. When I came out I told my husband and he was so mad. This is a shame and scary. The guy stood guard at the entrance door. 😢😢😢
This happened to me twice, even worse in December. First she claimed, my yellow card did not have my name on it and so I have to pay. My name was boldly written on the front page and I was like how the heck did I leave the country if it did not have my name. Then second time this May, another woman claimed my ps5 would have an import duty on it for around 1000cedis, but somehow she did not seize it or no one besides her made such a horrendous statement. Trick is usually to tell them your money is on a card and have no cash on hand. Gets me sick everytime
This is very true. I ve experienced the same thing countless times. Even my boss from Indonesia always complains to me about this when he comes to Gh.🤦🏾♂️
You give them money at your own peril. There are stickers and posters within the airport that inform all travellers to demand receipts after payment for any form of service rendered. Additionally, there is an audio played in the PA system of the airport (arrival hall) to not give money to anyone worker without demanding receipts. Most of the cleaners who demand money are those placed in the arrival hall. Truth is they don't just ask every arriving passenger, they ask arriving passengers from Europe and the US. They usually don't pay attention to arriving passengers from within Africa (flights from the African countries) and the middie east. People will ask if there are no security cameras there, they demand money from the washrooms or within the elevator where there are no security cameras.
This happened to me when I was leaving the country. I asked if my group has been called to board and the staff member that helped me said to pay because she told me if my group was called or not. 😂😂
When they ask do they force you to give them? At the Airport its announced that its illegal to demand money and people shld not mind those people . U don't give them and come and complain.
Begging has been normalized in this country...from uniform officials like police officers and custom officers to the street people...aren't we all struggling in this country?
The Customs lady who checked me and my kids out asked me for money. I gave her $10 and she was like 'Ei 10 p3' There norr she decided to be a beech and waste our time just because we hold American passports. She decided to harass us. Madam, do I owe you? Ns3m hunu kwa🙄
My brother is true, that happens to me when ever I visit Ghana… when they help you find your bag that ask for money…. As sim as you come out from the toilet they ask you money custom officers even ask for money. If you don’t give it to them they find something to pin it on your just to make sure they collect money from you…
One time last year when I landed they asked me for money thinking I don't know 'wossop'. They don't know I'm full Ghanaian😂😂...a foreigner will fall for that tho
It happened to me when I was living gh when I was about to weigh my luggage on the scale I heard one guy roaming around there saying when your bag overweight I will take it to the down there for you and you will pay 50gh I laugh it didn’t over weigh NeXT when I was about to move into the plan a guy who was checking your particulars asked me please let me see your Covid card I gv it to him I think my date of was writing mistake one number the guy said you it’s nothing give me 200gh for me to correct it for you and I was like really you guys are always disgracing us asre sre saaaaa mother Ghana 🇬🇭 oooo no but I promise my self the next time I come for vacations and get interrupted again I will give someone a nasty slap 👋 all working staffs at the kotoka airport are thieves immigration, attendants …….. in-fact all
I experience this at the airport years ago when traveling to the states. This happened at the check point. These two women directing the line stopped me in the line to ask for money. I said to them this is wrong and the cameras will see you. she laughed and directed me to throw the money in a bin when I get there and that she will pick the money from the bin. she kept reminding me in the line Saw I bypass the bin then one of them distracted the line and came to me she said "oh sister what are you doing, i said no one will see us just drop the money in the bin and go". Out of pity i dropped money and went to check out. And this were women in uniforms ! It's very disturbing, I couldn’t travel in peace !
😂Las Las someone approached me today for transportation to Abrepo not knowing I was also going there. Long story short I knew he was lying so I boarded the car with him and paid for it lol
My first day at airport when i was traveling the customs told me my Visa is fake seriously am very strong but that time i nearly collapse don't know they were expecting me to give them something that day if it was a lady i am sure she should have lost her life very very bad😮
Because of our bad economy were all taking advantage of ourselves even the ignorant ones. More people are hungry than you can think of. If they beg you it’s a choice to give or not
Chale was in GH last month, the lady who you see when you arrive to check your passport before getting your luggage asked me to buy her lunch. I was like please im broke. Then baggage claim some guy tried to help me I said nah im good. Before going to the car another guy was in the parking lot, told him no we are good.
I was in Nigeria recently and it’s sad 😢… Charle the airport check like the mall for makola… people dey try sign your document and fill your form give you…. Dem wan take take money from you…
Even today at airport waiting for my uncle to land, those directing the cars stood beside our car monitoring us to receive some token before we go .. meanwhile we already settled paying cashier but dude also on our neck for money just because he direct us to park hmm I gave him the money so I go in peace
Chale, it's so disgusting! A Rwandan RU-vidr was complaining bitterly of how she was extorted 300$ for her passport to be stamped at kotoka because she didn't have the yellow fever card.
Last time I and my brothers were in Ghana we gave out almost $300 before we enter the city self, from the Jet bridge till you exit the airport err one want you to roger them something
My two times experience at ghana airport made me decide that I would not come to ghana anymore. Jak, people harassed me for money. The first person I saw to the last person, begging begging begging. I was surprised to see beautiful ladies harassing me for money. Damn! My next visit will be through Afghanistan 🇦🇫
Nothing is free at the Airport. When you ask for a pen to write from someone, you'll have to tip the person. "Here, thank you comes from your pocket", that's what they say.
You don't have to let this behavior keep going on. I don't give anyone anything. If we all do that, it'll stop. We're all engaging in bribery and corruption if we entertain such acts.
