In today’s video, we speak with legendary film director, Jay Roach, about his new film, Bombshell, starring Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Margot Robbie.
Jay Roach is best known for directing films like Austin Powers, Meet the Parents, Trumbo, All the Way, Game Change, Dinner for Schmucks, and Mystery, Alaska. Jay Roach will take us through scenes for the new Bombshell movie, which focuses on the toxic work environment of Fox News and the former head of Fox News, Roger Ailes. This video is part of our Sundance Collab series where we team up with the Sundance Film Festival to speak with great directors to better understand their filmmaking process.
Jay Roach explains his process of directing scenes in this new film from Lionsgate Pictures. You will learn advanced techniques and tips from Jay as he takes you behind the scenes and touches on some of the techniques and preparation for Bombshell.
Jay Roach has built a successful career examining political climates and some of the most interesting true stories that affect us in our daily lives. Bombshell is no exception, which is no surprise why A-list stars like Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Margot Robbie would team up with Jay Roach to present the unknown story behind the curtain of Fox News.
We’re filmmakers, so we like to focus on the filmmaking above all else which is why we were so excited to speak with Jay Roach vis the Sundance Collab. You don’t want to miss out on learning some of the most sought after directing insights from this powerhouse director as he explains decisions he had to make on set, during pre-production, and in the editing room.

Meet the Parents - when Greg prays at the dinner table. Such a simple and straightforward scene that underscores Ben Stiller's hilarious performance 😂

The lighting and shot choices that Jay selected for this scene were really interesting -- it's great to see his process when thinking about his scenes. More of these!

The costume and makeup department did a fucking incredible job, I was so convinced that was Megyn Kelly playing herself, literally uncanny, almost too much, I would have to watch the entire thing, but it is borderline distracting knowing it is not actually Megyn Kelly.

Also there's something about John Lithgow when he plays a part in a movie there's something about his acting Style like he's some you know or the Dad you did not have but always wanted I don't know if I am the only one that feels that way. And he plays a good bad guy in Cliff Hanger

Ailes's secretary. Can't recall her name and listing in IMDB makes it impossible to find out. Goldmine! Been a very long time since I hated a character this much, especially a secondary and she was Ailes secretary.

One of the most unforgettable scenes for me also represents a 'box' motif, that was in Tarsem Singh's The Cell. The scene where Jennifer Lopez's character pulls a lever and releases a glass panel from a wall. What seems like a terrifying female amazon becomes released and steps out of her restricted 'box' and then follows Lopez. It is a very chilling application within a film. It certainly stays with you long after you watch the movie.

Kayla and Meghan’s offices/desks were in the basement while Gretta’s was on the first floor? And Roger’s office was only on the second floor? Really? What the heck was on the other 9 floors of that New York high rise headquarters of Fox News?

Is not fox news you have a problem actually. Is blondes (you know (euro/white), come out of that closet now and just say it, too many euro/white people in one scene. You color people like yourself that lives in the west really makes me a color person who doesn't live in the west, sick. Complaining, whining about everything.

Charlize's acting is so impeccable, it hits every single detail. Look at 5:14, the way she despised Gretchen with her expression in her eyes, like she couldn't even stand seeing her, then quickly change up and give a neutral nod to greet Gretchen

The Megyn Kelly character looks sinister and threatening. Charlize really nailed Megyn Kelly.

When I was a kid I did not know what a homosexual or child abuser was, this middle aged guy used to touch me and at first I thought he thinks I am a girl, but when I told him I was a boy, he grabbed by private area while saying "oh so you are, very nice" thankfully I was only touched but even that made my skin crawl, I went through nothing compared to what females go through, I know how hard it is to blow the whistle but you have to, never mind about losing family or a job, expose them otherwise your silence may get someone harmed, if not yourself, as I became timid which led to bullying, I got drunk then told my parents everything and everything ground to a halt, my dad nearly killed him and sent him to prison as cripple, I am very cautious with my own children, I told them what I went through so they don't suffer a second in silence,
@margylenhard3521
@margylenhard3521 3 года назад
I am sorry you had to experience that. Pedophiles should literally be lethally injected or shot. As far as what happened at Fox with these women, I feel Gretchen is the real hero She exposed Ailes and Fox and sued the crap out of them. Megyn Kelly stayed silent in exchange for the big bucks, maintaining a prime time slot, and fame.

Ah, the film about women who worked for the propaganda wing of the GOP aka War on Women who thought they were immune to that war until...wait, this is Serena Joy the Movie. Also, I wonder if the Weinstein biopic will have fictional characters like Robbie's? Of course it will, that film will never name names that ought to be named. Hypocrisy.

This video has not enough information to last 11 minutes. It is a very short scene and for me personaly not very complicated or impressive. It's three women in an elevator shot from the front with some bright light. Each of them has a position in the lift giving them a different role. Maybe I'm missing the genious ingredient. Simplicity can be good too but simplicity cannot make a scene great without other incredients. I just don't see why we need 11 minutes to break this down. Also it would be better to just show the scene first so we can observe ourselves before we are being told what it is we see.
