I had a back and forth with a PlayStation Fanboy a few days ago, and his argument for the Firewall being put on PS games was the 120-180 countries being blocked are poor, so they don't need to care about them. Which annoyed me personally as a person who lives in ones of these countries and has a better PC than most American PC players (Ryzen 7 5700x, RX 6800 and 32GB DDR4). I can easily run these games. Just because we don't have as much residual income as the USA doesn't mean we can't afford anything, or we don't have paved road or high speed internet.

Another thing the fanboys fail to mention is that the other companies that require accounts to play their games (EA, Rockstar, etc.) likely have support in those 150+ regions where PSN isn’t.

Sony has been making some stupid decisions these days. I owned the game on PS5 and I have many friends in my the Middle East who were patiently waiting for the game to come to PC. You can’t imagine our frustration when we realized their country doesn’t have PSN available.

Of the top 15 currently most played games on Steam (Concurrent players at the moment I looked), 3 required a 3rd party account. EA, Rockstar and Activision accounts (Apex Legends, GTA5 and Call of Duty). The top 10 most played Steam games of all time, not a single one requires a 3rd party account (funny, 11th place needs a 3rd party account). So PS Fanboys, tell me how "I need a 3rd party account" for PC games again? In my personal top 15 games on my Steam, only 2 need a third part account. And I don't play those that much anymore.

They are making Until Dawn a single player game require a PSN account also. This is ridiculous. I will not be buying anymore Playstation games unless they stop the PSN requirement. I refuse to link my steam to PSN where they have had data breaches in past. I am not putting my steam account at risk. I will just buy other games from other developers.

This makes me think of how the Burger King app is shown off all the time and advertised, but doesn't work at maybe 95% of their locations. PlayStation must take their investors as fools if they think PSN PC users is going to impress anyone, its just a component of the games sold on Steam and nothing else. Its not like these are PS+ users, if I was an investor I'd not be impressed. Forcing PSN on PC is pointless across the board. I have PSN since I have owned multiple PS consoles and if the From Software games do get ported I will buy them regardless but I think this whole situation is just trash. This feels like a half step measure before they introduce their own launcher and try to force PS+ onto PC users.

It is redundant to make multiple accounts on a steam account. Let me sign in twice and bork the games I downloaded into oblivion whenever there is no internet connection because that makes sense. I try not to play games that require multiple accounts to play on one store or service for that very reason.

god of war 2018 never heats up, i forced myself to platinum the thing and even though it takes less than half the time of a single normal run of tlou2 to get said platinum it felt twice as long because its so utterly fucking dull, it is a truely dreadful experience and apparently ragnarok is even longer

Lets be honest here, Sony doesnt care about those countries because the sales in those countries mean nothing in the long run and neither are they a heafty amount. As long as America, Japan, India, UK etc are secure thats all that matters.

The only reason, outside of the obvious, to require a PSN account in Steam is for trophy support. I don’t even know if GOW:R offers trophies on Steam though. 🤷‍♂️

I know it's a long shot but what if Sony forced a PSN account on all their games on Steam, some sort of update maybe to all existing games. I know it's a stretch but would or could Sony do that? Doesn't seem so stupid of an idea to me.

This is what happens when a market leader is left having such a strong lead in first without a direct challenge. Microsoft throwing four games on PS and refusing to actually challenge sony in the console space, has caused sony to realize they don't have any incentive to engage gamers on their terms. They could charge $80 for Ragnarok, require psn premium, and a ps controller, and they now know, most people will feel forced to give in because it's PlayStation. Because where else are you going to go to play these games? With all the lack of confidence in if xbox console exclusives will remain actual console exclusives, the beginning of an era where sony basically has a monopoly on the high end console market, looks to be officially here.
