Messages related to Government business should not be deleted or subject to the “disappearing” function on WhatsApp, lawyers for bereaved families have said as they made their module two recommendations to the UK Covid-19 Inquiry.
The call comes after hearings in Scotland this week as part of the investigation into core UK decision-making and political governance were told that former first minister Nicola Sturgeon appeared to have “retained no messages whatsoever” from the pandemic.
Ms Sturgeon conceded messages had not been retained on her own devices but said she had managed to retrieve copies to submit to the inquiry, with informal messages having been handed over to the inquiry last year.
She is due to give evidence to the inquiry on Wednesday.
