I can't imagine how he could have been happy, especially with Red and Sonny turning on him, being divorced, missing Lisa, taking so many prescription drugs. I think he was just existing the last year or so. Bless him Lord. So sad.

I think Elvis was a good old southern boy who rose to fame and such a skyrocketing manner. It all overwhelmed over time, I totally believe he would have written this, he struggled with a lot of things, bless his heart for giving us his all... While it took everything from him❤

I think the words in these “notes “would be a good example of his thoughts and feelings at the time. Although, I don’t think Elvis would write them down and throw them away in a trashcan.

Whether authentic or not, Elvis was in a bad place mentally and physically at this time and I wouldn't be surprised if he did jot down how he felt from time to time. I did so myself when I went through a breakdown late 90's into the 2000's, and looking at my almost illegible scrawlings , it's hard to identify now with the person I was then. God rest him. 💔

I DO BELIEVE ELVIS CERTAIN!Y would. Write notes like that, he WAS lonely, Felt bad/ SAD. & people do that when feeling so bad/ depresed, Elvis wouldn’t worry about notes being found, Sure je was PRIVATE! BUT May Not have been concerned. At this POINT! OR?on this night, “OR THIS POINT In time, , plus he’d have been taking his. Prescriptions, as usual,a D wouldn’t be thinking. It mattered, PLUS ELVIS ( JUSt) might have wanted notes to be found, I don’t see , nor feel. NorDOUBT why elvis. Would not do this,

Great video David! Great subject matter! I personally believe the letters or notes to be real. And for this reason. Elvis was actually ambidextrous. He was born left handed but because he was raised at the time he was he was, he had learn to write with his right hand. He would play guitar and sign autographs with his right hand so no one would judge him but privately write with his left hand. His letters in all caps were written with his right hand and his cursive was written with his left hand. He would only use cursive when actually writing to someone. Now this is why I believe the letters to be true. I don’t believe Elvis was just randomly writing down his inner most feelings. I think he was writing to someone, possibly God or his mother. It was said that when Elvis was deep in meditation he would speak out loud directly to God or his mother Gladys. I believe those notes were written in the same context. As you point out the timing in Elvis’ life all add up to exactly what he is feeling. And it would be very hard for a maid to fake Elvis’ left handed cursive without ever seeing a copy of it. Elvis probably thought they would just take the trash out and not take the time to go through it. Or he really just didn’t care either way.

We'll never really know, but I do think Elvis was ready for a change. He had been going 90 miles an hour since he was 18-19 years old. I just finished Ginger's book and it certainly didn't seem like he was lonely and miserable like people say.

You know you can be around 100 people daily and still be lonely. Sonny West spoke about how they would be somewhere with a room full and Sonny said I could just look at him and tell he wasn't there . That spark in his eyes was just not there. Sonny broke down crying toward the end of this story. Being addicted to pills or anything will make you feel lonely. My personal opinion is that his loneliness had a lot to do with him and Priscilla splitting up and Lisa Marie being on the other side of the country.

I can imagine how hard it must have been for Elvis sometimes not to have someone he could really emotionally relate his feelings to. As a man, as an icon to his fans that never left him alone in public, as a boss or bread-winner for most around him… I write down things I can’t relate to anyone in my iPad and nobody gets to read it, it’s just to structure thoughts, to write something out of my brain and into sentences. Because I’m not the type of person to talk about certain inner feelings to people, let alone a psychologist, out of distrust yielding back decades, and out of a certain pride that I cannot explain. I think Elvis was also a very private and proud, old-school values man, and I remember him saying to Red West in that telephone convo in 1976 that (again: Elvis had no privacy and those he trusted since teenage years recorded him while he was talking to them!) there “was a failure to communicate” which was a quote from the movie Cool Hand Luke. I think Billy and Jo Smith were amongst the few he did talk to in a vulnerable state during his final months, I read that from Billy in a book. He was tired, exhausted IMO, not just physically but spiritually, morally. Drained. Exhausted from everything and everybody leaning on him and weighing on him, Priscilla’s demands for money, Vernon, the fired bodyguards/friends, the returning concerts, depression, getting older, pills, his ongoing gut problem, pains, the lack of sleep, all the betrayal and ongoing duties to perform and “be Elvis” regardless, with no one really looking out actively for his interest. Today, rock stars and bands, celebs in general have all sorts of coaches, specialists, quiet retreats…. Wellness centers, diets, healthy lifestyles to avoid or combat burn-outs … have rightfully become very popular these last years, but in those years and in that environment, these people in show business and the music industry, but also in business … were burning both sides of the candle, drugs, smoking and booze were often the “remedy” for many, there wasn’t nearly that kind of attention for physical and mental health like today, for men it was seen as “soft”, there was hardly any general public accepted knowledge about it, and most doctors were unknowledgeable.

@@oldhollywoodangels i see it both ways with Billy. @@ElvisistheMan_ I agree and I think he knew he needed help for many issues but how does a man that is the most famous entertainer in the world ask for help not knowing how his fans would think of him as someone asking for help because as we all know his fans meant the world to him. And letting anyone at all know that he was loosing control of everything in his life and on top of it worried about the book becoming available to the world. I think he felt that if everyone knew he was suffering emotionally and physically they would probably believe everything that was written in that book about him. Elvis wasn't a song writer was he, but it could have just been the way he was feeling at that moment, he was obviously down and not in a good place at this particular time and writing something down on a piece of paper was a way of expressing his feelings rather than actually talking to someone. People tend to believe what they want to believe but the truth is...That we will never know the truth where Elvis is concerned. Thank you for sharing this. It was very interesting.

Well, throwing Wayne Newton under the bus is not a good look. Such a lack of respect for Mr Newton, whose nicknames are "The Midnight Idol", "Mr. Las Vegas" and "Mr. Entertainment." To the person who said Mr Newton wasn't being noticed until he did the song, well they are wrong. In the 1970s, Newton performed primarily at the Desert Inn, The Frontier and Sands Hotel and Casino. Mr Newton holds the record for total crowd counts during his peak. He also performed his 25,000th solo show in Las Vegas in 1994. He didn't need anything from writing a tribute song for his friend. And, OMG, let's throw Marc Cohn and Alannah Myles under the bus because all they are famous for is for their Elvis tribute songs. Were they just trying to get "noticed" or "cash in?" And no, it wasn't up to Wayne Newton to determine if it was Elvis's handwriting. It was up to experts employed by the auction house. That's how it works. Auction houses and online platforms employ knowledgeable experts who assess and authenticate items before they are put up for auction. This expertise ensures the integrity of the items, providing confidence to bidders. Auction houses work on reputation. They are not going to sell garbage or they won't be in business for very long. Since we're speculating, how about me thinking, Elvis wouldn't be too happy seeing his good friend being dragged through the mud just so you can try to prove a point. You can have whatever opinion you want, we all have our own, but at least have an opinion without throwing good, genuinely nice people under the bus, especially the great Wayne Newton.

@@vickyclausen4631 "Danke Schoen" is his signature song. You might recognize it as it was notably used in the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Esquire described Newton as "the biggest moneymaker in the history of Vegas. Nobody has drawn like that week in, week out. Not Elvis, not Sinatra." In 1999, Newton signed a 10-year-deal with the Stardust, calling for Newton to perform there 40 weeks out of the year for six shows a week in a showroom named after him. The "headliner-in-residence" deal was the first of its kind. He's such a Vegas fixture that the road leading to Terminal 1 at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas is named "Wayne Newton Boulevard." In recognition of his significant influence on the Las Vegas entertainment industry, Wayne Newton was honored with induction into the Gaming Hall of Fame. This prestigious accolade solidifies his status as a Las Vegas icon. In recognition of his contributions to the entertainment industry, Wayne Newton received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This prestigious honor solidifies his status as a celebrated entertainer and icon. Wayne Newton has dedicated his time and efforts to supporting the United Service Organizations (USO). As a Goodwill Ambassador, he has entertained troops stationed around the world, bringing joy and entertainment to those who serve. I get it. He's not my cup of tea either, but there is no doubt or denying that Mr Newton is a great man. He should be shown some respect. He's earned it. Oh, and Btw, you could've looked all this stuff up yourself, but I know people on message boards are lazy and like to comment on something they know nothing about. Also, just because I found it interesting; “There are two people I know,” he says with a laugh, “who flunked ‘Ted Mack’s Original Amateur Hour’ auditions: Elvis Presley and me.” ~ Wayne Newton

Dave I don’t believe for one moment after doing two long shows in the early evening, the dinner show and midnight show performance, which Elvis preferred as opposed to people tucking into steaks and lobsters!. That Elvis would be sitting writing all the words contained in the “ Letter!.” I am in agreement with you 100%. If anything Elvis would be upstairs singing Gospel songs with JD Sumner, the Imperials and Sweet Inspirations, like he usually did when finishing shows, until the early hours of the morning!. Something he absolutely loved doing more than anything else. And why would Elvis supposedly write such emotional words, to screw up and throw in a waste paper bin?. Again “ Supposedly” be found by a maid, who incidentally was supposed to have seen Elvis sitting there!. Writing, he didn’t see her, or wasn’t aware of her presence so she slipped away without him noticing her. Only to return once Elvis had left the room, to recover the writings from the waste paper bin!. Absolute rubbish excuse the pun!. ( waste paper bin) 😂 I believe Wayne Newton was aware by reading things the media were putting out there about Elvis and how supposedly “ depressed”, lonely, passive, he was etc and all the small talk about Elvis’ demeanour. Linda Thompson spoke of Elvis’ mindset near towards the end of Elvis’ life. She said he was not depressed, he wasn’t about to curl up in the foetal position and give up on life. And he didn’t stay in bed and in his bedroom not leaving it. This was all fictitious!. Elvis was very enthusiastic, thinking ahead and making plans for his future. He wasn’t missing Priscilla one bit. After all it was Elvis who actually divorced her!. His own father said Elvis wasn’t depressed, or lonely as he had a fiancée. He certainly did not want Priscilla back. Elvis was happy He was looking forward to going on tour again. And wanted to make plans to travel outside America. And Elvis wasn’t at all sad. He was still enjoying life to the full. Jerry Shilling and Joe Esposito corroborated this too. That Elvis was always enthusiastic and enjoying his life. He certainly wasn’t giving up on life!. Not one bit.!. So gathering up all the media’s stories and having listened to gossip about Elvis. Wayne Newton grabbed this golden opportunity to write a song called The “ Letter” based on all those stories written in newspapers etc. All l the small talk circling around the speculation!. By saying the maid in the hotel had been watching then finding Elvis’ writing in the waste paper bin would bring him a shed load of money!. And make fans so intrigued they would rush to buy a copy of Wayne’s record!. All Made up of illusions. Sadly the fans me included would be none the wiser. These so called made up stories, of how Elvis was feeling basically wanting to die. Wayne would be forever popular as fans would want a copy of Wayne Newtons song!. It would be an immense money maker!. Had it all been true the maid would have wanted a cut of the profits that were derived from the recording of the song. As she’s the one who found this. I just want to say that I agree with this particular comment. All that was written rings accurate to me. I don’t think that Elvis would have thrown in the trash a note that he happened to write down at that time. Elvis was very very conscious about everything going on. He was so private and had never done anything like this before. Chances of him doing it then are slim, I think.

I dont buy that they "were close friends." I am sure he and Elvis were acquaintances, but can you even find a photo of them together. Also Wayne tells another story i dont believe, about on the day Elvis died,Wayne talked to Vernon, and he said that Vernon asked him to sing "If i can dream" that night when on stage. Elvis didnt even sing that song because he wanted it to stand on its own for when he sang it for his comeback special, and it had special meaning. I think if Vernon had even asked Wayne to do a song it most definitely would have been a gospel song i think. I think Wayne has hyped and overplayed his and Elvis' relationship, maybe to gain support of Elvis fans.

I actually kind of think maybe it is real. Here’s why; we pretty much know that Elvis was feeling depressed and down and out during this time. As you said, he didn’t really talk to any of the guys about how he felt and I kinda feel like he wouldn’t have told Ginger anything at all like that so I think for him to jot it down on a piece of paper was just his way of getting it off of his chest. He probably wrote down his thoughts for years because people didn’t really have therapists back then like they do now. I figure the thought of people going through his garbage never really entered his mind! He would’ve probably thought that was crazy! I guess none of us will ever really know the authenticity of the “letters” but that’s my thoughts on it. Love your channel! Keep up the good work 😊

I believe Wayne Newton believes it is real. Overall the sentiments seem quite accurate to how we know Elvis felt, so even if the letter is fake, I would say it still captures his mindset during those last few years. In regards to Elvis sharing his feelings with Wayne, that I am not sure of. It is possible if Elvis felt a spiritual connection to Wayne or if he had a vibe that Wayne was not a "yes man" like the Memphis Mafia and could share those personal feelings without fear of it getting out. Only Elvis could tell us for sure!

Great video. Several thoughts. If the story is correct as you share it, it's unlikely he would have said *Sometimes*. You don't write those kind of sentiments unless the point is there's a reason to write it. In other word it's a polar moment. Most people wouldn't sign their name below their feelings, at least not consistently. If he crumpled them up and threw them away they magically came back from the crumple. They are all in perfect form. Content" "I don't know who i can talk to anymore." would more likely be, "I don't have anyone to talk to." (These are from the 229 mark of the video Those three notes were likely written by the same hand. They appear to be written by someone who was intentionally trying to replicate his handwriting.) It also seems incongruous that Elvis would say I will probably not rest tonight. Really? You don't say that. You say, "I can't sleep." And when did Elvis feel glad everyone was gone. That seems an unlikely sentiment especially when he's saying "i don't know who i can talk to."... Anyway, I will show this to Bud Glass. He's probably the sharpest Elvis authenticator there is out there. I've seen the letters he has, real letters, long letters. He's been interviewed by autograph expert magazine....etc. Anyway None of these feels like Elvis but someone who knows him. The writer is being very general in these three at 2:29. The note that appears to be part of the Nixon note looks right. You can see Elvis is consistent with his "I" It looks like a 9at least three times in the note to the President. It doesn't look like a 9 but a 7 in the note on the right at 3:17. The two items here don't appear to be written by the same person. The final two at 6:28. I've seen the one on the right. That doesn't mean Elvis wrote it but it sounds like Elvis. And I was told it was written by Elvis. The one on the left is new to me. It's interesting that the EE in the first and the EE in the second are very different pairings. You'll see when you compare all the samples. The D's in the yellow note are not really closed at all. But they are more closed in the brown note. The M's are not similar in left to right. The H's in the yellow note are curved and they are straight in the brown. That said, both notes look like his sentiments and thinking processes. I wouldn't buy the note on the left. I would buy the one on the right. Interesting stuff.

I don’t think Elvis looked at himself the way we looked at him. We write things all the time and discard it. He was human whether people want to realize it or not. It's wonderful that so many people want to know everything about Elvis because we all love him and feel he left us way too early. However, Elvis was first of all human being. He had wants, needs and desires like everyone. We can never know what goes on in anyone's mind. Suffice to say, like all of us, Elvis was entitled to his private thoughts. We know the important things about The King. He was handsome, amazingly talented, generous, humble, spiritual, and, in some ways, a private person. Let's remember the King for his talent and all of the many qualities I mentioned above, and just be glad we have his music and movies to keep him alive in our minds and hearts. Long Live the King of Rock and Roll, who is now with The King of the Universe.❤❤❤

Hello Dave a great post as always thank you for all the superb videos and findings you come up with. This one being a gem. Wayne Newton totally fabricated and made up this story of Elvis’ emotions and feelings supposedly written and witnessed by a maid in his hotel room. Who slipped away unnoticed. Only to return when Elvis had left the room, to take the letter and it finally got into the hands of Wayne Newton. How it ever got to Sotheby’s in June 1991 I’ll never know. Too far fetched. Wayne paid $13,200. He supposedly wrote the “ letter” after receiving requests to provide copies of Elvis’ note to his fans. See LIES. First it’s a letter, then a note. How it got from USA to London Great Britain 🇬🇧 I have a nasty feeling how though!. It must have been e been sold to someone in the USA. And they took it to London to sell it on. The plot thickens. I believe it to be a total fabrication and made up false in every sense of the word. Elvis was NOT giving up on life, so lonely that he’s had enough and didn’t want to go on anymore. Linda Thompson said although her and Elvis’ four year relationship had come to an amicable end they finished on good terms. Elvis was not lonely, sad, or depressed. Confined to bed , or refusing to leave his bedroom, ready to curl up in the foetal position and give up on life. He was planning touring, making new plans and living life to the full as he always did. He was certainly not depressed over the fact that he had divorced Priscilla. Quite to contrary he was free again. He was the one who initiated the divorce. Elvis’ father Vernon had said Elvis was happy to be divorced from Priscilla, he did NOT want her back. He has moved on And was due to go on tour with his then fiancé Ginger Alden., who he was engaged to. He wanted to make plans for travelling outside America!. Joe Esposito and Jerry Schilling both corroborated this that Elvis was always enjoying his life to the full and was happy and contented. Had that story been true, the maid would have undoubtedly got the sack for exposing one of the International hotels renowned “ Special Guests” And all hell would have let loose. Wayne Newton had gathered compilations of Elvis in newspapers and listened to tittle tattle and gossip and made up the whole thing in its entirety, for his own gratification. That is my whole heartedly belief. A profoundly despicable thing to do, especially as him and Elvis had become good friends after meeting on the set of Bonanza. Wayne was filming on one set. And Elvis was filming on another set both initiated on the same set. Had Elvis still been alive I doubt they would have remained good friends. A good friend doesn’t do that whether it be true or false. My assumption Wayne invented the entire shebang!. He made a lot of money I believe. The song made number one on cashboxes 100 country singles chart in July of 1992. And 5 months later number one on cashboxes 100 top pop singles chart in December 1992. He would have made a vast amount of money no doubt. I did watch the song accompanied by a beautiful video and photos of Elvis on You Tube. But it still hurts to think yet another person who was in Elvis’ life had exposed him with a story full of lies!. Elvis never got over the loss of his beloved mother and was extremely ILL, with lots of debilitating illnesses. And was reliant on prescription drugs. Which he took too many of. But who are we to judge?. It takes all sorts to make the world!. I’m in the same predicament after battling Cancer twice. And take lots of opioids. But it doesn’t make me a druggie who is reliant on them. Only to keep me alive! Elvis was branded some really nasty things towards the end of his life.But no one really absorbs how very ILL he was. He certainly wasn’t grossly overweight and fat!. He had a distended stomach that was bloated due to not being able to use the toilet. He had a problem with his colon. I can relate to all these things as I have had three major Bariatric surgeries. And it’s not a walk in the park!. No one can make assumptions on here say. When someone else experiences what poor Elvis went through they will eat their words. I despise Wayne Newton he had took advantage of someone’s downfalls in life. But were they all true?. NO. LIES. Anyway God will prevail. We lost the most Charismatic most beautiful humanitarian in Elvis!. He had a heart of pure gold 💛. His only fault?. He was “ Generous to a fault”. And too kind.Loving and giving. “What goes around comes around twice as hard”One person is already getting her just desserts for using Elvis and exploiting him over and over, in life and death. Maybe Wayne Newton will get his Comeuppance. God will prevail. Very sad that people are so greedy for money out there. Money is one of the roots of all evil. But thank you Dave very good videos. Keep up the good work. Because it’s people like you, keeping Elvis’ memory very much alive. He’s around us all his dedicated fans and will remain with us for all eternity. And we will all continue to love and cherish the beautiful soul who was sent to us “ Blessed” by God himself. Amen🙏🏻🙏🏻With love from Jayne. ❤️ 0:40

I don`t believe this story at all. Elvis had just met Ginger Alden at the time, and he was quite happy with her, and the new relationship. She was also there with him during his last Las Vegas engagement, and he seemed to be in a good mood. He did hurt his leg after an accident, and his father Vernon was sick which he was sad about, but other than that, Elvis was quite happy in December 1976. Wayne Newton knew Elvis, and probably thought this was Elvis`s own words (i hope so, cause if he just made this up to capitalize on Elvis`s death he is a sick f....), but there is no indication that Elvis was in a depressed mood during his December 1976 stay at the Hilton in Las Vegas, so i do not believe Elvis wrote this letter.
@paulandrew6457
@paulandrew6457 3 месяца назад
One expert said the notes couldn't have been written by Elvis because the Hilton heading on the notepaper was post 1977 so it must have been written after Elvis died that design was NOT the one the HILTON used when Elvis was alive apparently. Whoever faked it was an obviously trying to match the Nixon letter as that was the most well known example of his handwriting. You got it right when you pointed out that was more likely to use block capitals. I think you have summarised it perfectly yes Elvis had been in a bad place but he was in good shape when it was written and it seems unlikely that he would write such a note. He didn't write much at all.

I don't know how can we question the authenticity since probably specialists on handwriting have checked it. On the other hand judging by myself I write in capitals when it is addressed to someone in order to he understands what is written, my handwriting is awful. When I take notes for my self I don't use capital letters. Above all we all suspect that Elvis emotionally very disappointed, tired and maybe depressed. So, I wouldn't excluded that it is his. His bant claims how disappointing was for him that he couldn't take things in his hands and f.i. travel abroad. We all know so many things that made him feel betrayed. Certainly we will never know for sure and we all wish things were different for him. Long live king of music and our hearts Elvis Aaron Presley 👑💗 ♥️👑⚡❤️

I’ve always thought these were Elvis’ attempts to write a song…writing down lyrics. The fact that Wayne Newton was able to write a song from the notes is an indication that this was Elvis’ intention.
