I'm a landscaper and do everything from patios, walls, mowing grass, year-round property maintenance, tree and bush pruning, dormant pruning, planting and the removal of trees. So when you come across a client that has the capacity to be forgiving, understanding and realistic it really does make working with that client enjoyable! Seeing a customer smile and light up with joy after a job well done truly is what makes my job worth while.

Great video,... awesome outcome! I've come close to dropping the wrong tree once,.. luckily I had stopped for a break when I did. The owner had come home and seen that it was the wrong Tree so it worked out well. The lady got a free tree pruning,I took down the right tree and she was happy with the results. So now,..I always make sure the client marks the tree or I Mark the tree while doing the quote. 😆

Her expression when she kinda takes that breath…thinking about it and she says like no…like believe you me…you cut down the wrong tree… considering that it was here tree! Stepping up and making it right is definitely where it’s at! Too many guys duck and cover and try to run away… you can’t outrun a bad reputation!!!

I'm an apartment manger of 100+ units over 9 acres of land. Our 30 year old property has many dying pines, non-native pears with shallow root balls, encroaching box and juniper bushes covering windows and A/C units... it had become totally overgrown. This year we had 54 bushes and 6+ trees removed and I made sure to mark each and by wrapping yellow caution tape around the trunk or bush so that the team knew exactly which ones had to go and that they could work safely without me or my staff being present if need be. I've had a few instances where the wrong work was performed and it always came down to miscommunication. But I must say... the vendors that are my favorite and the ones I still work with aren't the ones that have never made a mistake, but rather the ones that took responsibility for their mistakes. How someone handles an error and makes it right goes a lot further with me than someone with perfect work nd a "it's not my responsibility" arrogance. This video is an example of that high quality work ethic. Well done sir. I wish you lived in Central Pennsylvania - I'd call you for a quote!

Why didn’t you mark the tree for removal?! I always tag them with orange spray paint or red ribbon for removal, green ribbon for pruning . I love your videos , you remind me of my father who thought me all I know about tree care ! Tree Brotherhood!!

I've had a few cases like this. Not cutting the wrong tree. But one time I smashed a large front window. I called and told the homeowner what I had done and that I would make it right. He ended up getting me back to do more removals and pruning over the years. He also referred me to many other people too. The second case is when I smashed a fence while rushing to beet an incoming snowstorm. I told the homeowner what happened and I would fix it all. She ended up paying me to rebuild the rest of the fence and kept getting me back to do more work. I find it's best to own your mistakes and make them right. most of the time it works out in the end.

Communication issues are sometimes unavoidable. I recently had two trees removed. The arborist who came out and bid the job took pains to mark the trees with spray paint. The crews that did the work were scheduled weeks out, it would have been easy for a mistake to happen if the trees were not clearly marked.

so sad about the error, but the birch looks like it should be there. like you said instructions that cannot be miss understood. marking the tree to be cut as soon as the contract is set, might avoid issues like this. so nice to see an accountable individual in these days! especially dealing with trees, you do not have the time!

Tie a YELLOW ribbon round THE RIGHT TREE!

Sometimes mistakes happen, humans are imperfect beings. Too often one or all of the parties involved turn to rage and threats and blame. In this case both parties were reasonable, and generous in their approach. If only all humans could take this route on a daily basis, we would be better off as a world. Own up to your mistakes and make reasonable attempts at forgiveness.

Dude, I misunderstood a work order and the poor client was so hurt… it broke my heart. I didn’t remove a tree, but the damage was done.

It seems obvious that the tree they took out mistakenly was not in the front yard. I have learned in my assessments if I’m not going to be on site when the trees work starts that either the client or myself or a representative marks the tree to be taken out with orange tape anything pruned gets green tape not in every situation but it helps diffuse a situation like this.

That actually happened to my boss too. He hired someone to cut a dead oak down and cut the wrong one. The owner was not happy. Then I ended up cutting the right one down. They where in there front yard on a lake.

I know how you feel. I feel terrible when I do something and one of my customers isn’t happy with it . I take it personally and I do lose sleep over it.

Yer happens. Best thing was in nz they used goggle map photo. An highligted it. This tree prune or remove. But was good cos hard to go wrong. Till we had a job with new house. We had address but lost. Haha cheers

When there's that many trees, they need to mark it. Pretty basic.

Don't cheap out , buy a can of spray paint and have them mark em themselfs.

All someone had to do was wrap a colored ribbon around the tree that's coming down. How hard is that?

Why not just mark the tree that is supposed to be cut? I've walked through woods where fields of trees where marked with red or yellow ribbons that were to be cut by workers that were clearing a field to put in s Sam's Club. Looks like everyone would do this, if you are using different people to do the dirty work. Figured that this would just be a standard practice for anyone using a team cutting down trees.
