@twosetviolin recently posted a video called “We Infiltrate Viola Gang” in which they attempt to blend in with 5 blindfolded violists. They were shocked when the violists immediately voted them out of the challenge in the 1st and 2nd round. In this video, I analyze why I believe the violists were so easily able to tell who was NOT the real violist.

I agree with you comment on Eddy's interpretation of the G major bach Prelude. This is actually one of my major peeves in Baroque music; so many musicians (myself seeing it in the flute community as well) will use low notes as mere stepping tools and focus on the mids and higs instead. Now, if you know anything about baroque instruments (specially futes) you know that due to their construction (connical, simple system with a single key for D#) higher notes and forked fingerings are actually quite weak in comparison to lower notes. That is what triggers me. Knowing this, if anything, the lower notes in Baroque music should be used more like a trampoline/spring (?) of sorts, to propel oneself up to the delicate mid/high registers. As opposed to a stepping stool that you merely grace with your feet and use as a safe spot to not fall over. In a nutshell, the lower register is where the real BEEF and BODY of the music is. I know, very graphic and poetic, that's my opinion, Anyway. great video, man ✌🏻💜

Probably, I thought his vibrato sounded pretty narrow and fast, same issue with the bow arm as in Bach too

This video made me remember how I started on the viola, like after 10 years of violin. I sounded just like Eddy, just kinda scraping the surface of the strings... I immediately heard my teacher saying "put more weight on the strings with your hand, you're barely tickling it" 😂😂 or "you sound so violin-like"

i am a cellist switching to bass, and while it is not the same thing, i can relate to the bow weight thing, as my teacher is always telling me to put more weight into the string. i also struggle with the low a and e strings, and while it wasnt mentioned in this comment, i’m sure that most violinists playing viola struggle with the c string.

Epic video! The explanation was definitely clear on how you could tell Eddy and Brett was not the Violist. I try to use all of your tips that you say about the Viola and I try to apply in things like this to try to see if they are actually Violist or not.

I didn’t think this video was mean to violists at all. Some of their content in the past was inconsiderate of violists but in this video, the fact that they featured so many violists and gave them a chance to shine made it feel overall positive to me
