⏱ Castlevania Symphony of the Night Diorama/Shadowbox

What is a diorama? A miserable little pile of paper. But enough talk! Have at you!
Ok, I'll stop teasing ya. First (hopefully first of many to come) Castlevania Symphony of the Night themed diorama. I've decided to play safe on this one. Tried a lot of scenes, better ones and found out myself I was not ready for more complex stages on this title. Got a lot scenes started, waiting to find the perfect pitch to make it more 3D than ever before.
As you can see, the meticulous pixel cut is still present in that one. Windows, doors, curtains and pillars are filled with details to be cut and repainted.
But what took me more time to make it right though was the way the characters are fixed on the floor. The first prototype used that same technique, but I used styrofoam on it. In this one I used a solid thick cardboard glued with the art with hot glue. It is tougher to cut and fix, but it seems more sturdy too.
I previously thought about using another weapon on this one. The plan A was to depict the Rune Sword (that one: vignette.wikia...) but I couldn't find a definitive form of making the sword the same quality that in-game. You know, when you swing the Rune Sword in-game, the word Verboten appears. Verboten is german, it means forbidden.
Other than that, I'm pretty muchr satisfied with the final result. Colors are super near the original, I was able to use the axe sub-weapon like a charm, the Demon familiar decided to help destroy the horde of zombies and werewolves.
Anyway, Symphony of the Night's still my favorite platform/adventure title on the original Playstation, competing in a tie match with Super Nintendo's Super Metroid. Always wanted to make scenes from these games a picture frame in some sorts.

Jack Plissken - Y'a pas plus récent niveau Retro ! Did they? I didn't see it. Do you have the link? Will check it out later. I'm selling all these pieces, yes. I only have two of both themes for now. And yes, sir, I do take custom-made/commission for retrogame pieces. I'm only restricted on selling on Etsy for now. My end to blame actually. But can try via Ebay if necessary.

8bit retro games seems to be easier, but never underestimate them. The 8bit I've finished were super complicated pieces. Ever tried the shadowbox/diorama community on Discord? It might be small and not that full of templates, but folks are getting their pieces done and shared up there. Invite's in latest video's description.

I've watched several of your videos today, these are amazing! Do you create the artwork yourself? Or is there somewhere online that has the sprites saved in some sort of vector format?

Thank you. The sprites are available online, but not all of them are ripped correctly. Most of the time I grab them through emulators on the same exact game resolution and then I start to project the scene from the snapshot reference. Some elements are created from scratch. There is nothing already done and ready for printing online. It has to be edited a lot before it is right for printing. There is a lot of papekura/papercraft elements I draw from scratch, like the pillars from Castlevania diorama, the floor, the ceiling and so many other overlapping parts. I don't use shortcuts. Most people simply make a cut out of the screenshot and leave that horrendous gap behind. I do not do that and this is a aspect worth taking into consideration when ordering one of these. I do not transform to vector shape because it is not necessary. I do keep the aspect ratio tho. A lot of crafters take the original 4:3 aspect ratio for granted and make their pieces in square format. No game uses this aspect in the past. Well, maybe Gameboy ones do. But it is an exception. I ressample the art to 300dpi tho. That garantee some fidelity and quality to the final print.

Everton Vieira Impressão sim. Papel Supremo 350g. Mas a estrutura da peča toda contem papel Paraná de gramatura mais alta e as portas com vidraças são com lâmina transparente plástica pra simular o vidro. O fundo de todas as peças são de hardboard (terciado/eucatex) e com isolamento anti umidade na parte traseira. Obviamente vidro frontal pra impedir entrada de poeira na cena.

knucklehead tv models: I actually sell them, yes. But (always butts... 🙄) I'm unable to sell them worldwide. I'm stuck to my own country for the moment. Sorry about that. If you're starting right now and willing to try yourself something on the matter, I just created a Discord channel for this kind of craft. It's still new and I couldn't start any tutorial yet (although I already have two tutorials in the making for anyone with no knowledge on how to start it) to share with the community, yet if you know the name Alain Wuppes Wildgen, you know the guy share his stuff since the beginning. If it is not too much asking of you, you could be part of the server and try out his templates until I get something more engaging here on YT. Btw, he is part of this server I mention you.

Ítalo Liano: pelo caráter artesanal delas, apenas a montagem leva em torno de 8h para finalizá-las. Isso a primeira vez, claro. A segunda peça do mesmo tema tem seu tempo reduzido pra menos de 5h. Porém há um detalhe a ser lembrado: montagem é apenas 50% do processo, já que é necessário criar/editar/adaptar os gráficos do jogo para obter o efeito tridimensional em software de edição de imagens no computador antes. Não existe nada pronto e se existe, está em baixa qualidade. Então é algo que precisa ser bem projetado desde o início ou o resultado final será inferior ao que se imagina.

Hi. Editing and assembling can be complicated and tedious dependibg on the complexity of the theme. Chrono Trigger's Fiona's Forest is one of these super complicated to do from start to finish. Especially the LED version.

@@rgbcrafts OK.. I have a question.. i am doing a 12x15 box.. I have worked for 2 days now editing image and getting the pieces that I want.. I haven't done much printing in my day but I have a new canon and gloss paper ready.. my question is what size canvus or what ever when editing image so I will know when I print pictures it will be the size I want them..

If you are doing all the editing on Photoshop, just follow the click: IMAGE > IMAGE SIZE > Change height and width to the proportion you need > Set Resolution to 300dpi AND Resample to Nearest Neighbour and you're good to go. Inkjet and lasetprint follows proff color, which is CMYK based. No RGB to CMYK goes well automatically. You have to change manually the saturation for color fidelity.

Always heavyweight paper. Look for 300GSM although less than 300 will work, they're prone to band and curl more easily. The editing part is by far the more painstakingly slow and methodic. This or the final piece will be lacking fidelity with the original scene on screen.

This first Castlevania I've made everything from pixelart editing to the picture frame and the main reason was I couldn't afford a picture frame this custom size back then. After MegamanX4 diorama I was able to get wood picture frames, but they are the slim type and became the standard ever since. This original picture frame was indeed made of cardboard glued with hot glue and covered with Parana Paper.

Obrigado. Não existe nada pré pronto com qualidade. Quem defende que basta baixar da net, imprimir e ser feliz simplesmente não entende nada de qualidade final de impressão. Há forte trabalho em Photoshop e fidelização de cores e proporção de imagem para todos os trabalhos vistos aqui ou no Instagram. O papel usado é o de alta gramatura, com reforço ainds maior no fundo de cada peça para evitar empenar. Se tem como fazer um trabalho desses sem o uso do Photoshop? Tem. Mas sem editar a imagem, o resultado sempre será aquém.

@@marcloetotal Eu vi seu trabalho em voxel e mandei no stories. A intenção de recriar cenas num diorama de papel foi toda retroalimentada por esse gatilho de memória afetiva a respeito de jogos e sua gigantesca nostalgia. Chegou a me fazer revisitar antigos clássicos e séries que não havia jogado por não possuir o console no passado. Embora no país haja bastante pessoas fazendo esse trabalho, difícil é preencher a demanda por ele. Trabalho artesanal já desde sua criação no computador.

Às vezes uso o The Spriters Resource, mas ele ands meio desfalcado em alguns games, então eu mesmo ripo os gráficos via emulador. É bem mais trabalho, mas garanto proximidade com o que vemos na tela do jogo escolhido.

I was planning making tutorials from the start over, I mean, even if you don't know how to handle Photoshop, it can be taught, slowly and getting harder as new themes are launched. I wasn't able to make it truth yet due to commissions this 2020. People keep asking me all these questions and if you wanna learn a bit more about anything concerning the craft, you should be part of Discord community. Channels like #resources and #general-worldwide got pinned messages addressing these kind of questions. Invite's on latest video descriptions.

Incrível trabalho. Eu estou tentando fazer um do SOTN bem simples. Só estou me quebrando um pouco na hora da impressão.. na conversão RGB to CMYK ele fica muito escuro e mesmo ajustando brilho/contraste e intensidade deixa a desejar.. alguma dica?

Recomendo fazer ajustes de cor via Adobe Photoshop. Modo de saída de cores FOGRA39. Aperte Control + Y para alternar as cores RGB para ver como ficará em CMYK e siga ajustando cores, brilho, saturação e contraste, via CONTROL + I, CONTROL + L e CONTROL + M.

Faça comparativos, mas é preciso se ater ao tipo de impressão que esrá usando. Ikjet? Laser? Mas somente esse quesito de reajustar cores já impede do vermelho ir pro lado do marrom.

Estou imprimindo inkjet... eu imprimi dois, um do mario, que ficou bom, só o verde que fica diferente, pois no RGB ele é quase fluorecente, mas o restante com poucos ajustes ficaram ótimos e o do SOTN que está dando mais trabalho.. mas estou na luta!!

@@moysesnascimento6257 O verde é a cor mais luminescente, nunca fica realmente igual, apenas aproximado mesmo. Dá pra ressaltar ainda mais na hora, mas quanto mais eleva ele, mais claro fica, nem sempre mais vivo junto com a alteração. No mais, é esse processo lento de ajuste mesmo caso queira algo acima da média. É algo que costumo avisar pra clientes, pois se fosse realmente fácil e rápido, todo mundo estaria fazendo.

Card stock for business card plus reinforcement on the back. It goes by 300g on paper weight.

It's not about resolution when you are printing pixelart, it's about dots per inch, or DPI. Any quality print must have at least 300dpi to get good results. If you need this kind of info, I invite you to be part of the Discord community and read the main faq and recommends in there. It is not rhe main focus since commissions are mine since 2020, but as often as I can I do try to answer folks in there. Invite's in the description of latest videos on the YT channel.

I always edit on original, lower, default resolution. Aspect ratio is 4:3. You have to capture it at 4:3 or edit from pixel perfect to 4:3. Editing the canvas to a 4:3 aspect ratio on Photoshop will serve as base for a template to begin with. BSNES emulator does better with 4:3 than ZSNES, if you're looking for some footage to edit above it.

Photoshop siempre. Tutoriales iniciales los archivos se entregarán listos. Para crearlos desde cero, necesita mucha información en más de una especialización. no estaría en un tutorial de RU-vid que resumiría todo el asunto.
