Garrett, you could talk about ingredients to a pie and I would listen. I've spent hours listening to you talk, from the Beatles, to your thoughts on the alphabet. With all due respect, these people don't know what they're in for. Don't listen to anyone but yourself, ever.
I love the magic world. But I know I know little to none. I’m not here because I know who you are / am excited about you doing this. But because so many people I look up to have talked about you the way I talk about them (like mr Chris Ramsay here) so I know that I’m about to get a hell of a treat from you! I’m excited to see what you’ll share with us.
You have been a great influence of many magicians around the world. Chris is correct, people don't know how deep you are about to get. Unexplored depths of magic and art.
Your advice, theory, and sincere depth and love of what magic could be, is more important than learning a new effect. I think it was Eugene Burger that said, "if you have been into magic for a year, you already know enough tricks." It was Eugene's thinking of it all that made me closer to being a real magician! You are so important Garrett to future mages and The Art of Magic!
This was such a great first video, and it feels like it was made for me! I have LLI(Low latend inhibition), my brain is pretty much unable to block out the stimuli that we experience all day(for prison break fans, its the same condition Michael Scofield has). While it can be challenging, it feels like a blessing when it comes to magic, so this video really resonated with me!
it was made for you, years of regret I have a huge library of books I have bought out of respect, I have not read a single one of them. it wasn't until I woke up and realized nothing was wrong. that instead of fighting I went along with it.
I'm so happy that you finaly made a youtube channel. If it's about the way you think about the world I would be even more pleased, because, as much as I looooove your tricks (wich i consider the best in the comunity) I love even more the way you think about it and the world in general, that's what's makes you unique I think :D
YES!! And so it begins! Let me fasten my seatbelt first! Great job editing! That coin vanish was probably the greatest coin vanish and production I’ve ever seen. Wow! Thank you for sharing :) I am completely content watching and listening to whatever you choose to post. Your thoughts and views on magic alone are good enough for me.
Garrett, you're amazing. I'm genuinely excited to see where you take this, because no matter where it goes, I'm going to watch and listen. You're brilliant, and I'm so glad you're sharing on this platform!
I absolutely love hearing you talk about theory of magic. Your thoughts on the why and your ideas on being different and weird. Its amazing. Keep up the great work.
From the first time we met at Vera, I remember watching you blow everyone's mind in that bar (and mine, repeatedly) and I really enjoyed listening to what you had to say in this video and can't wait for the next one. You're always inspiring to watch and listen to. Thank you for being you.
Thank you for sharing with us! As a magician getting back into the industry from a hiatus of almost 10 years, it’s a new world of magic with new creators all the time! I’m an old soul and I learned with DVDs, books, and lectures. I am happy to see more solid content from magicians that is quality and useful! I look forward to the inspiration and creativity!
Yeah, you got me! I came from a Penn&Teller clip of you to this video and I'm intrigued and impressed. Looking forward to finding more. (Oh yeah and that sponge ball work is sublime).
Enjoyed your show at the Deane Center in Wellsboro Last night. Your outlook is very rare and appreciated. Amazing gifted man. Thank you for keeping magik real!
I am so glad I was recommended your videos on magic.. you are amazing.. Hoping to see you as top on RU-vid as well.. I know that’s not what you strive for but that’s what you deserve :)
Hi Garrett Loved the video and looking forward to seeing where your channel goes. I am also dyslexic and although I still hardly class myself as a magician magic is one of the few things that has ever really made sense to me. Can't wait to see what comes next.
Your talk in the discourse in magic podcast was mind-blowing. I believe we have so much to gain if we ask ourselves what is astonishment, what is magic, what is a magician, should I do magic as a magician, what social rapport do I want to create with the spectators...?. I know you have much to say on these subjects and this could be an invaluable topic. I stopped magic because I was not happy with the magician persona (#thejerx). I know I'll start again when I'll feel why I do magic and what I want to share/create with people.
Good... it was not too much. I never Learned any editing skills, and I’m always worried that as an artist I might look at something to long and not see a glaring flaw.
I think doing something similar to what you just did is a great format. Maybe a fun opener of a trick and then just magic discussion. I’m not alone in being I find your thoughts on topics of magic the most valuable (over any tricks or methods) personally so hopefully you’ll include more videos like that.
The view of having art from another person in the own home, I have never about it thought that way. Although maybe I did, just from a different point of view. I have composed quite a few songs and shared it with a friend who is also musician, only because I thought, if he maybe have an inspiration from it, than I've created something with a meaning beside my own pleasure listen to it (just because of the feelings which made me create these and have them again in a slightly different way and see something new in between the blank voids).
I have a few hopefully interesting questions. Are there any effects you used to perform but now don't? Why? I think I've heard from you elsewhere that you like to leave the spectator with 'no explanation.' So, do you avoid effects that might be backtracked, even with false solutions? Following that, are there any tricks from, say, kids magic books that you love to do? Very nice mug and ball! Looking forward to much more from your channel. Peace to all.
Yes both right or wrong answers, diminishes the magic. and for me even no answer is not enough my goal is for them to know it can not happen at all, totally impossible. Any good trick if framed and done right is good even gags like pulling your thumb of I do all the time and get gasps from those who do not know of it.
0:17 and you can see the ball just peeking behind his ring finger. But thats all u can see in his sleight of hand. I wish i could learn a single trick without any components being gimmicked. You sir, are amazing
Ya. That was good. Run with it dude.and keep identifying with that common core that has the potential to empower each and every one of us. I will take some of that advice tonight as a soloParent. Again x3,... thanks.
First of all I'm pleased that you decided to make your youtube channel, it's another platform for you show your work, as for content do whatever gives you pleasure, i only know you through your work in magic and i like it alot but you're not just a magician, you have other interests so why not share those also? 😁 Best of regards from Portugal
Honestly I would love to see just your thoughts on magic and plot or theory would be amazing also maybe....something along the lines of should someone seek out making a living off of magic?
You are an Individual, that can amaze the masses. Never except as is, the world would be boring. My art is always created early in the morning, when my world 🌎 is asleep...from a Ceramic Chess Set To a Sailing Ship. Each piece is unique, as you & I are unique. Exposing your dyslexia or my PTSD can be scary or make some feel sorry for you. I don't want that, sympathy for those with legs or arms is different. Even they usually don't want sympathy. You are like the Mozart of magic I aplod you, Never Stop, Never give in, Never except you don't make a difference. You do ! Ssg Rock, former US ARMY MEDIC 🇺🇸
Garrett so glad you made a you tube channel. You have changed the way i think about the art of magic. But also still trying to figure out where that coin went ahahahhaha
I agree with Ramsay. Pie talk would be good. Or anything. Also how the f&#^ did you make that ball vanish and appear! Haha Jk don't tell that was awesome.
4:40 The coin is on the back of your right hand (perhaps held by tendons), and you make the switch from right to left with a subtle drop at 4:42 (left hand being the hand on the right side of the screen) Your speed and dexterity is insane. The ring trick on Penn and Teller is impressive too. I wonder what your hardest to figure out trick is.
This is the second time I watched your video, missed few points the first time. It happens with book too. What do I want from you??? I heard you, so there is something I want... And it's magic, so how can I saw you?
I see your golden spiral on your necklace, I’m a tattoo artist and I feel as if I keep seeing all of my favorite artists and philosophers using this.. id love to have a conversation with you, you definitely know some stuff man. Thanks for being awesome and sharing your passion!
The more you learn the less you know... every answer Leads to ten more questions. The golden spiral is a symbolic representation of a ratio, it a important ratio that is found in all living organisms. Mathematicians call PHI Φ . It is a rabbit hole of ideas. As a tattoo artist this ratio will be very important, and a lot of the intuitive things I suppose you know, you can use a Fibonacci gauge a three point compass that can keep this ratio. This will help plot out designs a lot quicker. A wonderful shortcut.
My grandmother was deeply involved in the left hand path and I seen her do similar things....... She went completely insane in later life and not one person came to her funeral, not even her own kids. There is a price to pay and one day you will pay it.
Know the difference between entertainment magic and occult. Just because we can do what appears real, and your logical mind can't figure it out, does not mean we are the Left hand path.
You said you like close up magic. You want to do something different. You like meeting face to face. Maybe do a series where you facetime or VC on discord subscribers and do "close up" magic?
Your first editing / directing job is better than all of mine so far and I've been casually directing and editing for 5 years! I stopped watching RU-vidrs long ago as I noticed they were just churning out content just for the sake of it, but I immediately subscribed to you! I consider your "Gift of the Moment" routine / lecture* the most artistic magic performance I've ever seen, but also the most convincing and entertaining explanation of what magic is. It is what convinced me to get back into magic after I got discouraged from it as I just couldn't find my voice for years. I can't wait to start learning from you! * Link to the performance: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RXViWJqLFUE.html
Я очень надеюсь что среди русских фокусников есть люди, которые ждут от вас новых видео,так же как я. Простите что пишу не на английском) Очень жду новых видео.
Garrett is the reason im worried for the future of magic….nobody thinks like him….every Amateur magician is a carbon copy of one another. There is no originality. It’s all a bunch of TikTok influencers and pranksters posing as magicians and it’s fucking sad because people are learning from them and going in the wrong direction.
Garrett Thomas it’s interesting, I always think of it in perfect 90 degree flips either horizontal or vertical. You start doing things on a 45 the possibilities become infinite. Is that better or worse?
Adam Stone I agree that this is not a 100% valid anagram. Think of it as more of a art piece within the puzzle genre, It is meant to highlight the confusion someone with dyslexia might feel when trying to read. I have caught myself turning b’s into q’s and t’s into j’s. Everyone who has the dyslexic filter will have developed their own unique challenges.
@@MentalMagicYT I'm not trying to mess with you. I actually posted the comment before I watched the part of the video where you talked about it. When I first noticed it I thought of it was like an easter egg and got excited. Then after I finished watching the video was stuck with the misplaced comment. I am dyslexic as well and was excited to see the reference. I hope I have not offended you.
It doesn't matter if I saw how you did the trick in the first 30 seconds. You did it so smoothly, that I didn't see the ball when you did it. and barely saw how you did it. jesus fuck
