Whenever I listen to this patches, I soon forget it's a patch video, if not watching the screen. It's like a mini record. The patches are so versatile, detailed and simply masterful crafted. ❤
The review on your website might be the best written review of a synthesizer ever. Not only did you cover "how it sounds", (which is great of course), but you went into where it's weak, how to get the most of it, and how to think about approaching it according to it's own "internal logic". THIS is what people need to know from reviews, not just "pros/cons" like a feature checklist, but whether it makes sense for their art and process. Thank you!!! Also I think I won't be buying one - I love my OpSix and Wavestate(I like it *because* it's a crazy sampler), but I have to believe Korg has another card up their sleeve sometime soon. Maybe they're going to make an uber-digital with all 3 engines, poly AT etc to compete with the Iridium/Quantum... I know this Korg trinity are overpriced, under-speced, "just a VST in a box" etc etc, but they SOUND fantastic IMO.
Whoa, should I start saving up for a monster Korg? I agree with you. Even if it's a "VST in a box" the Opsix & Modwave sound more interesting to my ears than some of the "real vco synths" out there... Anyways, I'm glad you find my write-ups helpful.
you're one of the most interesting sound designers I've had the good fortune to listen to over the years. In addition, the use of the sounds you create is always very original... unmistakable
This one is so strange. Don't know enough about synths to theorize, but i could hear certain patches gettiing close to something like a TX or some of the pads sounding like some newer Behringer, but it's so gritty. The dirt. It's so clearly on the edge of something you can't do with anything i've heard atleast. (even IF your patching is as crazy as it is.) I mean. The "Crispycrust" you can't do that with a basstation. So sick!
@gridsleep That's how it started. I bought my first Novation X-Station 20 years ago with the intention of controlling the software. And it had a synth engine inside, which completely changed my perception. A dedicated synthesizer interface lets you get the real juice out of your machine, even if there's a VA or VST in the box. Also, I love combining multiple synths with a midi clock or CV gates. It's so cool to link MS-20 from 1978 with Akai Force from 2021 discovering completely new word of posibilities. But I agree, the NI Machine can be as much efective in right hands as any other gear set-up.

Let me be the first to say, that is a weird synth. Different sound from the shiney Argon or the Flat sort of Hydra sound. This is a bit more gritty? Nice sounds as ever!
I would say "I can't wait for the VST to be on sale!" but I am waiting for the VST to be on sale. So I guess the more accurate thing to say is "I'm looking forward to when the VST is discounted.". I have the M1 VST and I like it, but I own V1 and Korg only hosts V2 on their website now, so they expect me to pay for it again to use the software and I'm stuck in demo mode. 0/3 do not pay full price for Korg VSTs.
It's there no difference in quality VST vs hardware? There is a comparison video about the Wavestate and the VST and the VST is significantly weaker in every aspect.
@@JexusHi Jexus, I would like to know your opinion about the differences between the hardware and the plugin Version. Usually, when they emulate vintage synths they are really not comparable, meaning the plugins lacks everything which makes the hardware awesome. Punch, clarity, depths, width etc. But as this hardware is more on the mediocre quality level, I'm really interested about the actual differences. Could you try that and compare? I would be glad to hear your opinion. Cheers.
Even a great sound designer like you can't hide, that this synth sounds suprisingly weak. All these movements are senseless, when the basic sound engine is thin and flat like this.
Yeah, we may call it weak if we compare it to the depth or fuzziness of some synths out there. But this sound can be enjoyed none the less, and the "weakness" becomes a positive thing when you use this sound in track and it sits there nicely.
You are both absolutely right. It is sounding like a VST, a bit above average quality. It is not sounding like quality hardware. Does that make the synth unusable? I don't think so at all. This synth, build with Dave Smith or 3rd Wave technology would be a killer synth.... avaible for probably 8.000 Euro. 😂
