Pamela, to receive a comment from you really makes my day. I hope you are doing well. I’ve been busy with a lot of things and I’m sure you have been as well. I really get excited when I do join a live stream periodically and I see that you are the moderator. That always lets me know that it’ll be a fun chat and nobody will get out of line when you are around. It’s amazing that we are already into November and I’m talking with family about planning a Thanksgiving. Where does the year go? Well, friend, I wanted to take a moment to say a proper hello to you.
Thank you for this video, I'm originally from Michigan now i live in Upstate NY, Wayland NY little town. But it's nice to see some of my old stomping grounds lol. God bless you all, Fred
I’m glad that you enjoy seeing your old stomping grounds. Here’s your current stomping grounds in New York. Further south from you in New York City. This was a few weeks ago when I was out there. ru-vid.comlqGPbUI_Ygc?si=GO5ZJfZXYLqCSqH2
"...when that wind gets blowin' and the snow is flyin'---Can't wait for that." I'll bet you could wait; and happily wait a whole other year for that hard and frigid wind blowin' and the icy sleet and snow flyin' and stinging your face and threatening frostbite on all those frozen and numb extremities. I really like the way you give out the details on weather, surroundings, the Boats' structures, build dates, history, etc... about the Boats, the city and Lake Superior. It makes it all so much more interesting, worthwhile and fun when watching your channel.
You are not kidding, the wind should definitely stay the person’s face. I know that it’s getting extremely cold when my face feels hot after I’ve been outside in that freezing cold for a long time.
Great catch, those thousand foot ships are massive and 4 salutes! I found it interesting that none of the radars were spinning on the flying bridge, different from your "American Century" video where all three were rotating. Stay warm, Mike.
Fabulous live, 4 salutes, is that a record? Canal still as a mill pond, that too unusual for November. Very hard working ship, lots of rust. Cant imagine the work it would take to repaint this vessel at 1,000 feet. Glad to see a huge coal shipment going to those who will use it well. Lots of ship watchers for Nov also, taking advantage of a relatively mild day for Duluth. My jaw dropped seeing the kids swimming, lord the water is cold in summer, cant even imagine Nov 4th! Very diverse vid, great job.
@@vibewithmike I think that some were a little fazed. A couple of those kids were lobster-colored from the cold. I'll bet their moms will have something to say when they get home with a case of the shivers and hypothermia.
Hi Mike, wer'e sorry for not catching up. With the fires we have been rescuing the injured wildlife and taking them to where they can get help. We had a Mike session and loved it. Kids laughed when you talked about snow. The kids asked if you could send some over. Thanks for the videos. Family says 👏. Take care, Cheers
Mike do you think any of the vessels would allow you to go onboard and broadcast live or at least let you make a video either coming in or out of the harbour?
Mike, Thanks for the great info today. You are always spot on. Those kids in the water. It was cold being there. Much less being in the water. So calm. Thanks again!!
Hi how are you doing Mike, that ship the Indiana going up the canal in that smove water looks just like a painting, what a great video ,good one Mike.👍👍.
Philip, I hope you have a wonderful Sunday planned. I was very amazed by calm that lake was. It’s extremely enjoyable to watch 1000 foot ship go by on water like that and the captain had a fun time playing around with the horn as well.
The water reminds me of a transit to Singapore for R&R 1969, so smooooth...we had a passenger ship passing port side, you could actually say hello to them about 500 feet away...
Sorry to not get live stream - southern Oregon coast here, windy and rainy, low 50s (well, it's November 😅).internet down for several hours (any time of year here, but not for long usually) Anyhow, just found your channel a few weeks ago and as a native Escanaba kid, watching ships in your videos brings back fun memories!
I’m glad that this channel is bringing back some memories. Let’s make some new ones together. We’re going to have some fun watching the ships go through the ice in a few weeks or months.
@@vibewithmike I really have Mike. I've covered many areas of the Great Lakes now except Lake Ontario. Still need to travel to North shore of Lake Superior. That will happen next year. I'll finalize plans this Winter.
I was pretty stunned after hearing the fourth one Elizabeth. I chose to go on the north pier because there’s more action and it’s funner being around the people on a Saturday. Adds a little more excitement to the video.
Bro that was an awesome video! It was so still! I heard nothing and just saw her glide... Imagine how terrifying that must be in the mist! You will never even know she was there! 😱😱😱😱 Hope you have a great evening man! Take care and be blessed!
Thanks for joining. I always love mentioning that you are on because I want people to know that no matter where we are in the world those ships connect us.
Stephen, I don’t think that we’re going to see that calm for a long time. We’re going into some of the most volatile months of the season from a weather standpoint, it’s going to get wild out there brother!
Another great ship passing through and under the lift bridge in Duluth. These are large bulk carriers that can carry nearly 70,000 tons of cargo. In about 2008 we traveled to Western Austraila about 12.000 miles from California and more from Duluth. We say many ships off the coast of northwestern Australia. We noticed only about 1,000 kms (600 miles) north of Perth the land changed from the more normal tan and brown to a dark brick red everywhere. There is so much iron in the soil the land is red everywhere. There are huge open pit iron ore mines in the northwest of Austraila. The ships in Port Hedland, Western Auatralia are over 5 times the size of the bulk ore carriers of Duluth on Lake Superior. Many ships carry over 6 times the cargo as the Tragurtha. These Indian ocean bulk carriers are over 1,120 feet long, 200 feet wide and can have a draft depth of over 58 feet deep. They dredge Port Hedland harbor to nearly 60 feet deep for these ships. They carry over 360,000 tons of iron ore from Port Hedland to India, South korea, and China. The hunger for raw iron ore is incredible in Asia and Australia provides much of this needed raw material. Port Hedland video follows. It is amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NceosiDjVCY.html
Hey there Mike! I missed the livestream again. I was getting dinner ready. It is nice to see green grass still in November. That shot of the canal was truely like glass. So calm and peaceful looking. The Indiana is another one that has the classy black and white colors that I love. She is a work horse but a beauty of a work horse. WOW!! Three bonus salutes. How awesome is that. 📣📣 What a way to spend a Saturday!!! The seagulls were awake with the trifecta I would think. Those guys had to be showing off to their girlfriends or were dared to go in. Hope you have a great Saturday evening my friend. Take care and chat soon. 🙋🚢
No worries about missing the live stream my friend. I want you to watch it when it’s convenient for you. Everybody loves seeing the comments from you. It’s always nice when you’re able to catch the live streams but I want it be convenient for you. Did you see the boys that were swimming at the very end of the video? Take a look at the 16 minute mark. Can you believe they were out there swimming in that temperature?
Naresh! Let me thank you my friend. It’s wonderful people like you that stop to leave a comment that means so much. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday planned. I really appreciate you watching the ship video and I wish you the best.👍⛴️
@@vibewithmike I did it at 12am News Years day 1989. I honestly didn't think I was going to make it back out of the water. It is a massive shock to your body.
As a kid, I went on a family action to the Maine coast. It was a hot nice day for swimming. I remember asking my Dad ....why aren't there anyone swimming? I then proceeded to the beach and went into the water. I immediately screamed out....man is this cold! That answered the question why.
Tammy, it’s a pleasure meeting you my friend. I hope everything is going great in Oregon. Thank you so much for leaving a comment. I hope you come back and join all of us and watch these ships as it gets colder. It will get really fun as the snow starts to fly. Have a wonderful Sunday my friend.
Great Video Mike I Enjoyed It Great Salutes calm Canal Does The Visitors Center Have Any Books On The Canal There Is A Book On Ship Building In Duluth And I Found Out Recently The Movie Iron Will was Made In Duluth one Of My Favorite Movies It Is Not About ships But Sled Dog Racing a Great Steam Locomotive Is In The Film. Have A Great Saturday Night 😊
Mario, I can guarantee you this, if anyone of those kids was a little tired before going into that lake, believe me, they woke up real quick!😂 How’s it going friend? Any plans on a Sunday? I’m not going to be doing too much today. I’m going to keep my eye out on the ships though.
Oh my goodness Delores! You are so kind. I totally appreciate you. It means a lot. Thank you so much for watching the ship videos. I hope you’re having a fantastic Saturday night. Many more fun videos coming soon. We will have fun during the winter with the ships going through the ice.👍⛴️🙏
Hi Mike, fab video tonight. Can you tell me what the longest ship is that works on the lakes please? My son was just with me and I had to look up the length of a Dover to Calais boat to give him an idea of how large these ships really are!
That was a great salute from an awesome ship! And then the swimmers at the end! Haha. That was a surprise! I do tend to like cooler swimming water, but that has to be cold! Hopefully they have a hot tub at a hotel nearby. 😅
@@vibewithmike Yes! The Edmund Fitzgerald was sometimes referred as the Titanic of the Great Lakes! I compared the two ships and amazing to think that the Titanic was even longer than the Fitzgerald, which was the biggest ship on the great lakes at the time, and the largest ship to sink in the great lakes.
Steve, great hearing from you. I hope the weather is wonderful there in Australia. I have to make it to your country sometime. You have wonderful people, the nicest people I’ve ever ever met! Thank you so much for the comment. It’s a pleasure meeting you.🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
In a dream I was a contestant on Jeopardy and the final Jeopardy answer was “they were four members of the board of US Steel in the 1950s” and I smugly wrote down “Who were Philip R Clarke, John G Munson, Arthur M Anderson and Cason J Calloway, Alex”.
Mike & Deb! The pleasure was all mine. It’s such a wonderful experience meeting fantastic people like you and talking about the ships. I really appreciate you watching the videos. You both are very wonderful to speak with. All the best of both you!👍👍⛴️⛴️ It’s wonderful meeting nice people after a livestream!
Minnesota Historical Society shall be honoring the Edmund Fitzgerald November 10 this year at 4:15 PM your time, a ceremony will commence by reading the names of the crew to the tolling of a ship’s bell, with a rendition of the Naval Hymn...
With the Witch of November less than a week away if Hollywood ever made a movie about the Edmund Fitzgerald who would you want to play the part of Captain McSorley? Or Captain Cooper?
Starting at 13:36 you will see how some youths approach the thought process differently than most well adjusted adults. To them just a typical way to spend time on a 37 degree day.
There’s only one advantage in the situation. There was no wind for them. As I walked down the pier, he could actually hear me laugh when I noticed it because it was so funny to me to see that. I did see people walking around in shorts when it was 80° however.😂😂😂😂😂😂
@chuckg6039 what’s even more interesting is that there was no contest they just went into swim! I’m sure it probably started out as a dare and then all of them participated!
I hope you catch Mesabi Leaving, cuz i have to get the field weeded before the early sunset, so i can’t stay inside long enough to watch her go. Besides i like your narrative.
I didn’t know for sure, but I’m sure glad that you asked this question because I did some research. Serious, thank you for asking this question so it helps other people learn as well. I found the best source with the answers. Take a look at this university study that I found online explaining it. www.seagrant.wisc.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/HarborCorrosionUpdate_2015.pdf
Man Mike that was an interesting article! I had no idea of the extent of the problem up there. "The most severe corrosion in the Great Lakes tends to be observed in Lake Superior facilities"@@vibewithmike
I’m going to figure out this merchandise thing. I never even thought about it. I couldn’t believe the demand when I had five hats to give away for a contest. I will definitely figure it out though.
Why hi Jim. I've been there many times to visit your downtown museum, Canal Days.....and I'm a big Leslie Peltier fan. He is considered the best non professional astronomy. He discovered many comets from Delphos.
