Hey people. For those saying these are old clips, yes they are. This was a show promo for the Storm Arwen show. The clips are from pervious storms, as it says in the video description. "You might remember these clips from previous storms 😉" The 787 from Storm Erik the other 2 are from Storm Ciara.

Tip, read before posting your comment or you risk looking really silly. It is right there in the video description that this is a show update/promo, and the clips in it are from previous storm shows. Duh!

Same here. I was 39+ yrs with USAirways. Been there many times in all kinds of different aircraft. Usually the cross wind component is the deciding factor but there are times where it could be over the limit and the runway conditions certainly enter into the equation. I've landed in Buffalo years ago, in a DC9 and it was gusting to 70 kts but it was pretty much down the runway. I could site many such situations and any professional pilot has usually seen them all if he or she's been around long enough.

Just to explain to some the last clip. Most probably, the pilots sensed the first bounce as being much higher but that didn't happen as the spoilers killed some of the lift as they had partially deployed. You can see the point when they actually elected to go around(watch the spoilers. When the plane is on the ground, they autostow when the thrust levers are advanced) which is actually early on. It take a bit of time for the engines to spool up(you know now when he actually started to go around, but notice how long before you saw the effect from the jet thrust) and if the speed is also low then much better to let the plane land, gain speed and rotate when the speed is correct. They could have started to bring the nose up immediately but then you go into tailstrike territory
@cb1557
@cb1557 2 года назад
Interesting commentary, thank you for explaining :)
@softreset82
@softreset82 2 года назад
Great catch, thought the same thing. Those spoilers went back in almost as fast as they came out. They called the go-around pretty much immediately on the touchdown.
@ABowlofWeetabix
@ABowlofWeetabix 2 года назад
Final straw might have been how far off centre they were?
@skypertt6683
@skypertt6683 2 года назад
@@ABowlofWeetabix Hi weetabix, I don't think so. Obviously we can't really get an idea of the lateral deviation from the video but the rudder is the clue for that, there is a large deflection on touchdown which is consistent with the decrab on a crosswind day then it is pretty stable. Most pilots who touchdown off the centerline, will quickly try to regain it, regardless and you would see more rudder action. You don't really see that here👍
@mixedupmenopausaladhd3999
@mixedupmenopausaladhd3999 2 года назад
Thanks for that, Skypert. Almost looks like the nose gear is way right of centerline, but hard to say.

I’m the same, I used to fly twice a week for 10 years and still do so once a month, and not once have I been terrified; on the motorway however, it’s like running the gauntlet these days. Since when did overtaking on the inside become a thing? As far as I know it’s illegal, yet it is now commonplace especially among van drivers, and I’ve yet to see or hear of anyone being punished for it unless it causes a crash. I always use a dash cam now, and send footage to the police on a regular basis.

I've been on a Monarch A321 performing a go-around after bouncing hard on the runway, and it was quite a rush/fright. My missus screamed, actually screamed. I don't know why the pilot chose to abort the landing as it was 30 degrees of hot Greek sunshine, no wind, no rain, nothing. But I think the most frightening part was after the hasty climb-out, the pilot eased the engines back and performed a hard 180° turn. It felt like we were dropping out of the sky.
