Only thing I'm left unsure about is how the wire should be placed or better yet, "crushed" in between the screw and the piece of metal? Am I to just stick it straight in and tighten? Or somehow or another manage to curl it around the srcew as you would with an outlet?

Thank you for sharing this, I was having a problem with a used extension cord I had bought, anyway, the guy had reversed the polarity on the female end. I just used this as a refresher for silver black. I had it right, but it is always great to have a second opinion. I redid both ends and trimmed / stripped the wires a little more neatly and put it all back together and I have a safe outdoor extension cord again.

Thanks Dan for a Great and Concise Video. I too am replacing a Cord and Plug-in for a 16 inch Old Delta Drill press I'm restoring, and have changed these plugs many times, but, but, but, this time when I took the plug-in like you are showing, and looked at where the wires attach, the Green wire was no problem, then I looked at where the Black and White wire went, and then the DUH factor kicked in, there was No Brass Screw to designate where the Hot (Black) wire went, as both screws were silver. So I found your Video, and marked on the back of the Plug with a Black sharpie as to where the Black wire went. You Save me. I guess in Life we get to used to Mfgs tell us where everything goes.Thanks Again.

Question...is it better to stick the wire straight in next to the screw or wrap it around the screw. I'm asking because the wire straight in would sit cock eyed under the screw. Oh and...when I said wrap yhe wire on the screw, I meant take off the screw and "U" shapped cover so the whole wrapped wire is under the "U" cover. Thanks!

Thanks for showing the little clamping bracket inside on each post. That's not in every replacement plug, so it's not in every video.

This cheap replacement plugs don't allow the copper wire to be inserted as a 'U'. They also leave a visible gap which can easily let any liquid in. Apply dialectric grease in between

Lets assume you bought the male end at Lowes and the screws are all silver, no brass. Answer that.

YOU COULD STILL USE THE MALE PLUG AS A TWO PRONG PLUG WITHOUT HAVING TO REPLACE IT.
