I can't tell you how much I love your tutorial. So clear and concise with both explanation and demonstration, and relevant for SG too. Thank you for your work!
Hello. Great tutorial video! It was easy to follow along. Can i request for a tutorial on how we can extend the lenght of the wire that comes with our eletrical appliances / lighting? 😅
I just had a problem with my two-pin plug and its adapter this afternoon. I had this thought in mind to change the 2-pin to a 3-pin tomorrow. I said to myself that It must be a a unique chance for me to see your video at this moment. Thank you for putting up this video. Please continue to do more videos on matters that are relevant to Singapore. I just subscribed.
I do use a travel adapter for my toothbrush but it is a decent one with safety shutters and provides a secure fit as good as any wall outlet (lencent brand). However for anything that has a replaceable cord (IEC C5 C7 C13) standard i will just buy a new power cord from a reputable OEM (E.g linetek, I-Sheng, Volex, Longwell, Lindy). Also since i am studying/working in Australia, wall adapters makes the whole plug assembly bulky, adds bulk to my bag and it becomes a problem if it clashes with other plugs on the same 2 way outlet/powerstrip or if the socket is located under a floorboard cover. Then when I travel back to Singapore, I just swap the cables for the Singapore/UK 3 pin plug types that I use on my laptop adapter (IEC C5 cord) and Ugreen GaN multiport charger (IEC C7 cord). So ultimately a travel adapter is good for short term use like on holidays/exchange but not for long term.
Hi the video helped but when I removed the outer plastic both inside had no inner tubing showing blue and brown only copper wire... I followed the Blue Brown positions on the plug, left out the earth. The item worked (a lamp) for a few seconds... its not the globe (I tried another) but I must have done something wrong for the globe to fade off after afew seconds 😔
Good video ! Subscribed! Keep up the good work :) Very nice to seee a SG handy man with good content and well spoken ! I guess this same logic also apply to 2 core to 3 core wire extension into 3 pin plug right?
I wouldn't change a 16A plug to a 13A plug. As the fuse may melt if the demand is too high. If you change the fuse in the plug to 16A you may cause damage to your circuit if it is not rated for 13A. That's why the plugs are different. It's so that you do not connect a 16A appliance to a 13A circuit
@@ThePunggolHandyMan In this case, what would you recommend if the hifi equipments comes with 16A plugs? These hifi equips are bought from local retail shops in SG. Thanks in advance!
Great vid only comment is at the start you indicated wrong pin live and neutral, you connected them correctly , well it fors not really matter in this case. Need to check any appliance is rated to 110 to 230v and belt and braises match the fuse to the wattage using watts equals volts *amps. Save a burn out
Noted Blue is neutral and Brown is Live. What will happen when we insert wrongly into the plug meaning Brown wire inserted into the neutral hole. Any consequence once we turn on the power?
I'm this case no. Houses run on AC or alternating current, means that the power flows both ways. So no for a 2 pin to 3 pin conversion it does not matter
It will work but of for example there is a switch in the cable it will cut the neutral and there is voltage still in the device. If you for example removed the bulb from a lamp and stuck your fingers inside you could get shocked even if the switch is off.
Hi i have question i want run 4 led bulbs witch is 3w each bulb gonna fix in one wire cable. Can you recommend me please what gauge wire do i need and fuse amp with plug? I am in uk i am talking about 2 pin wire becoz the holder has alredy 2 pin wire with . Thanks in advance
do I need to change my plug, just notice the 3 metal is hot when I plug out from the socket and it is black instead of copper colour. Already subscribe your channel as I find it very useful and can save money too. Thank you.
Attempted to change my Chinese plug into a 3 pin following this video, but ended up tripping the house after I turned the power on😨 I followed every step closely, and ensured the wires were secure in each prong, to the plug as a whole too. Do you know what could have caused the trip? I used a regular 3 pin plug w a 13A fuse inside.
Usually live is coded brown, neutral is coded blue. In this example, the manufacturer just used the brown blue wire and the orientation does not matter since the device is using alternating current
hi im in the philippines but im from london uk where we have 240volt 2 wire a dubble uk socket in the philippines does it matter if i put th live and neutral the wrong way round please can u advise me sir i hate useing the 2pin filipineo plug its so anoying wen the plug keeps falling out
Hi, I got an issue which i hope you can help solve I bought a hairdryer from Japan and using it back at home, the hairdryer gets over heated I tried switching a 3amp and 5amp fuse in it, but it blew it when i turn it on high settings Any idea how to fix?
Hi Japan uses 110v voltage draw. Singapore sockets supply 220v! You cannot use a Japan hairdryer in singapore! U have to run it through a step down transformer! Stop immediately
I guess the downside of this is it can give a false impression to other users of the appliance that it is grounded since it is now a 3-pin UK plug but the ground pin is not serving a purpose as per 3-pin specs. Do you think converting it to the UK 2-pin plug will also work here?
Yea that would be a much easier process by cutting and splicing the wires together followed by heat shrink tubing. If you observe closely at some appliances which come with the UK 3 pin plug, many of them have false ground pins to open up the socket gates.
@@ThePunggolHandyMan Yes I've seen them. The false ground pins are usually made of some kind of plastic. IMO there should be a colour code and manufacturers should be required to colour-code them differently so people know it's a false ground pin. By the way, I'm Malaysian and just wanted to say I really appreciate your content since it's quite relevant for our region :)
Some sites say it is just as dangerous to use oversize fuse rating. whats your say? i replace to 3pin for 2 aquarium pumps thats 1.8w and 2.5w respectively, calculated amp use like very small leh not even 1
@@ThePunggolHandyMan my machine from china plug broke and it has 2 pins, so I want to change it to 3 pins , u said in your video 1pin is neutral 1pin is live and another pin is ground., Since china 2wire has no ground wire ,how i will know if the wire is for neutral or for live pin
@@resalina4024 ahhh okok typically red or brown is live and blue or black is neutral. But as I said in my video, if it is 2 pin, orientation does not matter. Even if u wire live to neutral, your machine will work
If connected to an 36W LED lamp should I change the fuse to 3A? Also, is it ok if I folded wires and twisted it over itself before inserting to 3 pin plug? It was too long and sticking out of the screws otherwise.
@@lt4041 no need to swap to 3A fuse. Also no it's not right to fold over on the insulation. If the exposed wires are too long you should trim it. If too thin you can twist more to make it thicker. But if u fold over you risk melting the insulation as the contact points get hot
i just made a mastake i buy 3 pin british socket from onley problem i got tricked into 2:14 beleaving it was made in the uk it was made in china and broke down affter 1 week so i dicied to make video on every think u buy how to tell if its made in china or uk do not buy anythink that is electrical from china its dangerouse and a waste of money
