Oh boy, the 'Lord's Caliber' vs the 'Pansy 9mm' vs the '.40 is just as good right' crowds. I absolutely despise that stuff. My dad is one of those Thou shalt only carry a .45! Because he was a Marine in Nam and that is what he carried as his back up gun. I don't think like that. I've seen first hand what bullets of all different calibers will do. Comes down to skill. My ex carries a .380. I carry a .40, my son carries 9mm. Anyone that goes on and on about that garbage is usually one of those people that spend thousands on a gun, have almost no skill and think the bullet power will save them if needed. I've seen a ton of bullet wounds working in a trauma hospital in Florida. They all suck and they all do damage. Skill beats Caliber every time.

There is a video garand thumb did where he tested multiple rounds from both the.45 and 9mm against ballistic torsos, very little difference if anything the faster 9mm did more damage and for some reason I thought that would be the end of the theoretical discussions… I was wrong

European here just reading this and thinking these all people are totally crazy just carrying whatever guns around and passionatly arguing with each other about if they have the right kind of gun😅 Oh man, am I lucky to live in a place where there is zero need to carry a gun when in the woods hiking or in any other situation, hunting excluded.

Carry what ever you wish. For CCW - I carry a .380 - it's small - works well and is light. (bad back etc) But for back woods travel. I carry a 38 special / .357 revolver. Why? simple / light weight and works well. Then I do not have to worry about bears around here. Only been 1 sighting of a bear in the last 60 years. But if you want to carry a .22 be my guest. My favorite revolver / rifle combo is the .44 mag. I have a nice revolver in .44 and a Ruger .44 carbine. (the old no longer made one). One round for both weapons. Again each to their own. Take care - Be safe

Lol but encompassed in our shell we still somehow produce our own electrical currents thats why we need iron and magnesium etc different metals that are good conductors of electricity. Check out how to ground yourself.👍🤗

Retired military and I carry. The caliber of the man is more important than the caliber in the weapon. Glad to see that you give good honest reviews on the equipment, fluff means nothing when you need something dependable. If my Taco was a long bed I would contemplate sleeping back there but at 6'2" and 5'truck bed, it's out of the equation. Thanks, hope you are doing alright with the winter storms. I was a combat medic and served on three combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan and caliber doesn’t matter, in the right hands any caliber can wound and/or kill your opponent. I was also a paramedic for the city of Chicago and there too caliber didn’t matter. A bullet does one thing very well, damage whatever it hits. Learn your weapon, fire only when you have to, and remember there is no reset button in life. Once you have pulled the trigger your life will never be the same as it was before. Yes I carry but I have seen too much death and pulled too many wounded to take another life unless I absolutely have no other option. Stay safe out there, Luke you’re awesome as always.

How about with a charging grizzly......that is the only reason one would need a pistol, and it better be a 44 magnum! Guess I should revise one thought, running into a band of drunken Indians while camping down some back woods trail could be a problem, but any caliber will suffice in that situation versus non at all!

I travel full time in my trailer, and always boondock away from the crowds. Because of that, my cell service isn't always sufficient for emergencies. I purchased the same We Boost system you have a few years ago, and wherever I am, if I have at least one bar. It will boost it to at least 3, and often times, more. Absolutely love it.

Luke, as always a great video! I agree with you on the useless caliber wars. My wife and daughter do more damage in less time with a .22 than my friends with their "magnums". Besides, whether in the outdoors or in the city, the key is situational awareness. Thanks for all the great videos. You are changing my outlook on "how" to camp.

My daddy is a retired gunsmith, so we grew up around caliber talk, he taught me how to shoot a gun, how to shoot skeet, how to aim properly, you taught me about gun safety, I can remember making bullets when I was a young girl... I know all about the caliber stuff and yet I don't ever talk about it LOL It's how you handle a gun, learn how to shoot it, practice gun safety, those are the important things!❤😎

“The gun you have is more useful than the one you don’t.” A good .380 with copper polymer rounds is about as much weight as I will carry on a backpacking trip. Statistically, we are safer in the woods than we are in the “civilized” world. I would rather carry an extra liter of water than heavier ammunition.

Nice rain. Love it. I'm in the market for a signal booster, so I'll keep track of your input about it. The stove, I agree with you, too expensive. One the blue tent, I'd pass on it. I hate sags. Strong and rigid is what I prefer. Loving my Snugpak Cave tent. It has been set up in my backyard all summer. Great tent. On your caliber discussion, I have always been in the mind frame, choose a caliber that is comfortable for you to handle AND train with. 9mm isn't my fave, but that is my EDC caliber. For the woods, I tend to lean more for larger calibers that can put the hurts on a bear, brown or black. 10mm, 41 Rem Mag are my general "woods" calibers for me. Till next video, take care!!

My favorite piece is definitely the cellphone booster. Having decent service when i have my grandchildren while camping or even just a hike & picnic is very important to me. So far we haven't done anything serious because of bad cell service. While i do carry my gun, i would rather not HAVE to use it(but i won't hesitate if i have to), i would like to have cell service so i xan take them a little bit further out than usual...I would imagine you would have to have a backpack just for that booster alone. It would be worth a little extra to carry.

I like your short camp videos. It doesn't have to be a week long affair. Throw some basic gear on the pickup or the van. KISS. Head to a park or forest. Getting a free weekend was difficult. It dawned on me that being self employed, I could make my own schedule. Sunday afternoon for a day or two is ideal. Most campgrounds are deserted. Also a drizzy night works. Just made sure my old dome tent was seam sealed and retreated with water repellent. Some of the most peaceful nights ever.

Five years ago, I was in Africa on an Elephant Hunt. A particularly large bull had just absorbed 3 rifle rounds, two .458 Win Mag and one .470 Nitro Express. The elephant seemed usually upset and appeared intent on locating the shooters and stomping them into bloody puddles of gore. He was approximately 10 yards from the first hunter, when I stepped in front and fired one round from my 1911 .45 ACP. The elephant stopped immediately, buckled at the knees and collapsed at our feet, stone cold dead. Such is the power of the mighty .45 ACP.

Luke, on the fire arm. Like you said if you know how to fire a 22 then you are better to have than 50 cal that you could not hit the broad side of a barn. Plus the weight. The bigger the gun the more it weighs. If you are hiking you would not want an anchor.

100% agree about gun caliber. Use what's best for you and your situation. If you really need extreme stopping power you wouldn't be carrying a pistol anyway. Obviously pistols are compact and convenient, and work great for camping. I really like the newer sub compact 9mm pistols that can carry 12+1 and are pocket sized. They don't break the bank either.

Hey Luke, been enjoying your work for many a while, and I hate to take the road less traveled, but can you go over alittle on how you pick your restroom spot and how to do it so as NOT to affect nature----- thanks...

Very well said on the firearm segment! I am a navy vet. I have training for i did TAD harbor patrol and carried your typical baretta m9. That said i am a full supporter of concealed carry and my weapon of choice is a ruger lcp 380. Small round and only 6 shots! Some would say thats not enough im crazy etc. well im trained and i train! I know how to handle my weapon and put rounds center mass! Consistently! Thank you for your vids! Great content!! Loving it!!

Speaking of the caliber wars: eating stir-fry with a spork is like bringing a knife to a gunfight. Where were your chopsticks?

Just watched this video, outstanding, also for what it is I totally agree with your caliber discussion, I believe it was David who slew Goliath with a small caliber rock, single shot, all about skill set.

Great call on the 1 tigris chair. I bought one. Extremely comfortable, easy to set up and light weight.

I got one of that type of stove from Walmart for $20 and that was not a sale price. I am well pleased with it.

Thanks for the video. Carry what you wish or what you are proficient with. I don't care if it's a 22 LR. I carry a .380 as my CCW but that's my personal choice. In the 'woods' or in the city. It's the 2 legged creatures you have to worry about. Most of the 4 legged ones don't what anything to do with us most of the time. Unless it's sick has rabies. Take care - enjoyed the video like always.

That is an Iwatani Tafumaru. It is worth it. It is safe and dependable. The magnetic connection is a safety feature so that it disconnects if jarred.

Talking about bad backs; I'm so greatful I bought some hiking poles. I ended up throwing out my back and couldn't go hiking, but the poles themselves let me move around my apartment alone. Without them I would have been bed bound.

That cell phone Booster looks REAL helpful. The table looks like a good size and seems pretty sturdy. A Table may not seem super important... UNTIL you forget to pack it. Ps.. great sign off music tonight 🙌 😉

Great video Luke.. Love your honesty. I know you are agenda free but I've noticed your choice of music, especially at the end of this video, really deserves credit. Never miss a video and you have steered me in the right direction more times than i can count. Cheers

I've been using Gas One products for over a decade, and they are top notch. The only issues I have with these stoves is that they are not wind resistant. You have to have a wind screen for outdoor use. The other problem is that they don't get a great deal of purchase on the pots and pans I use, especially the smaller ones. Everything slides around and can easily be knocked over. I built a combination wind screen and pot retainer to fit into my stove that solves both problems. It also retains heat around the pan for faster heating and fuel efficiency. I have used these stoves daily in my cabin setting, and for long travel scenarios. I have literally cooked thousands of meals on these stoves. The model I use is the GS 4000P, which does cost $80. Gas One is where I buy the fuel by the case as well. No affiliation, just happy with the product. I also bought one of their mini gas grills, which is the smallest gas grill you can buy and perfect for one or two people. As mentioned by TOGR though, the cases all suck, which actually IS an issue for me. I have had many cases arrive broken because they didn't even survive shipping.
