We're in the situation we're in today because people thought exactly as you are now about Israel and the Jews. This issue isn't something that just popped up in the last hundred years, at least for all parties involved. Roughly 3,600 years ago the Jews displaced the peoples of the region and those peoples no longer exist. So by your own logic, the Palestinians are the unfair occupiers. And it also ignores that Palestine wasn't a sovereign nation when when the land was split between them and Israel. It was ruled by the Ottoman Empire, which no longer exists and lost the land to the UK in WW1. The problem is, pretty much anyone can make a good claim to the land and regardless of what decision you make, someone is going to end up displaced. The hope was that these two peoples could come together and live in peace, but neither are willing to and both have equally strong claims to the land itself.

The same could be said for 9/11 and Pearl Harbor.... The problem with relying on intel is there is far more bullshit than there is actual useful information. And far too often it takes longer to verify that intel than it takes for acts to be carried out. There is also the issue that had they acted preemptively, as you suggest, Israel would clearly look like the aggressors and the rest of the world would be saying that Israel deserves the attacks even more than it is being said now. So as monstrous as it might seem, it makes political sense to let your people die in this situation.
