The problem is that you can say “of course I condemn the murder of civilians, in Israel, in Palestine and anywhere else”, but what usually happens from there is the interviewer reveals the real reason they asked the question. It’s not because they need to confirm you’re a good person, it’s because they are trying to frame the debate from the outset. From there, the conversation is going to be about Hamas and it is going to deal with this conflict as if it started three weeks ago. That misses a lot of nuance and completely skips over the reasons why anger has become so deeply entrenched. And it means that we are now discussing in terms of a legitimate state dealing with a terrorism problem. If we started the conversation in the 1940s, when Israel was formed and the Jewish terrorist groups Irgun and Lehi overnight became the IDF, the tone is suddenly very different. So we start on Oct 7, where anyone supporting the right of Palestinians to live in peace can be forced onto the defensive immediately. It’s just dishonest journalism and I can see why some people might choose to ignore the question and engage on their own terms instead.

I think Lowkey was 100% within his rights to not repeat the phrase that every pro-Palestinian person is expected to repeat. By Piers asking that, he is putting the assumption on the interviewee that they support terrorism if they don't say "I condemn what Hamas did". We seem to agree, and I think it would have looked better if he did say it, but he was correct not to automatically oblige him. Western media covering this situation functions in a specific way to play to a specific side, and he just refused to conform to that.

Condemning Hamas for what they did isn’t something that should be focused on because it happened on the 7th of October and we are in the 28th of October and thousands of Palestinian civilians were killed including thousands of children and Piers never ever asked a pro-israeli guest whether they condemn what israel is doing now. Second is that israel is a state that was established over the bodies and blood of the Palestinians. So for world to focus on the the real victim of the whole conflict, they are focusing on the oppressor who is pretending to be the victim now. Having said all of that, Pro-Palestinian activists will never condemn what happened because they know history unlike Piers and people like him who sees the 7th of October as the “horrific atrocity ever committed since 9/11”.

Peirs didnt condemn the killings of Palestinian children and Hamas were not the only ones who boost the IDF do too. In the west bank people are also dying without no Hamas as we speak. Keep yhat in mind.

What’s interesting is since this aired, Israel revised the death toll from 1500 (which piers quoted as fact) down to just under 1200. This doesn’t make it any less tragic, but In hindsight gives credence to Lowkey’s point of “we don’t know exactly what happened”. Around 695 civilians were killed, we now know a not insignificant number of them were killed by IDF forces. It looks like Hamas’ civilian to armed combatant ratio is somewhere near 50%. This is actually better than the IDF where if you believe their figures, (at time of writing, 24k deaths and 8k of them militants) their ratio is only 30%. The biggest irony is that they claim October 7th was a genocide, but their own operation isn’t a genocide. If October 7th was a genocide, then their operation must be a genocide going by the figures above.
