I've been researching an option for a second carrier, particularly for backup and testing I'm on Verizon HI. I found the 5G Inseego Wavemaker FG2000 5G Wi-Fi Router External Antenna (GSM Unlocked) as part of the process on eBay, etc. Evidently these are closeouts from US Cellular. I'm glad you sowed us how easy this would be. Thanks!
I’m trying to help my brother in law figure out internet for his semi-rural house with no cable internet line. I had no idea this was even an option. Thank you!
After disappointing speeds on my T-Mobile Nokia gateway, which I stuck with because it was still superior to Xfinity, I am finally getting good speed on weekdays during the day. I did nothing to the gateway settings, didn't add an antenna, didn't reposition the gateway or anything near it. When I first contacted T-Mobile about the issue a year ago I got the standard "we're in the process of upgrading the tower so it should improve in about a month". Months later it was still slow (0.5 - 25 Mbps). Two months ago the speed jumped and I now consistently get 75 - 120 Mbps during the time of day when I need it. Needeless to say, I am pleased that my patience paid off and I'm more or less happy with T-Mobile.
Mine did the same thing we just rode it out cause even when it slow it was 10x faster than what we had prior. Something happened and now it's 200+ download. Either way it works
Hi Nate, Their Help center, Modems & Routers, state " Tello does not support the use of MiFi, netgear, modems or router devices." I'm still hunting for a data plan for cellular modem. Thanks
I have a seasonal parked camper, so I buy this ELSYS unit first and place it and turn it on and let it tell me which carrier to buy a sim for? What would be my steps to follow? I have 4 devices I need this for
Yea that would be best. Once you find which carrier has the best signal then you could buy a plan. Probably a MVNO like mint, tello, visible, etc. Here's how the setup and carrier search works: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tTrer83xqs8.html
@Nater Tater Is there any other way to run a multi-carrier search, without the elsys? I've downloaded a bunch of apps, they seem to be drawing information from a static database, not realtime signal information. Just crowd-sourced data points. I bought a piece of property in the middle of nowhere. Checked coverage maps for the big 3, tmo and Verizon are a few hundred feet from coverage, at&t map shows 4g coverage. My tmo phone actually gets signal a quarter mile up the road. I've picked up a signal booster repeater, that I plan on putting on a 35' mast, but I'd like to figure out which provider's network I can get there.
I just activated the Verizon 5g gateway and the charge is $60/mo. I don’t have a cell plan through Verizon and don’t want Verizon’s Visa card or want to give them my debit card. I know Verizon advertises $25/mo, but there are caveats.
Hi. I have a quick question hope u can answer. With this item. If power goes out will it power back/reboot once power is back up? I have a T-Mobile hot Spot for a cabin to check cameras. But if power goes out. I have to get someone to go and power up hot spot. Not like home internet it reboots once power is back up
Hi, I'm new to you channel. Thank you for taking time to go through those details that really help. I have a question for you, I don't know if it's possible. Can you take the sim card from the T-mobile 5G gateway and use it in the Elsys Amplimax?
No you can not. If it is the T-Mobile home internet plan you need to buy a cellular router that lets you change the routers IMEI number. It needs to match your T-Mobile gateway IMEI
So, you can just buy a sim card with a data plan (from any carrier) and use it with the Elsys Amplimax device? A family member currently has T-Mobile's home internet through the kvd21 gateway and it is not working well (only 2 bars at best). I'm just wondering if something like this might be a better solution for them? (especially since the Amplimax device can be put outside)
Yes. For best compatibility At&t and t-mobile networks work best. You could also try an external antenna on the kvd21: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tqyGXm3yASc.html
Hey! The best performance Amplimax is outdoors. It is protect against rain, sun and dust. There is no restriction for internal installation as long as a good signal level is obtained. Check more out here: amplimax.elsys.com/ 💙🚀
This product seems amazing. I currently have T-Mobile's $50 a month plan with the Arcadyan gateway. I'm not really interested in performing surgery on it to add antennas because I just know I'll screw it up somehow. But I'm am interested in the ELSYS. I'm fairly new to all this stuff and would like to know what exactly would I ask T-Mobile for when it comes to SIMS if I was to purchase the ELSYS and wanted an unlimited plan? Thank you...
T-mobile isn't really in the business of this type of use. Hence the "skip the big guys" on the thumbnail/title. You need to get a sim card from an MVNO like tello, mint, visible, etc (links in video description) that have a "bring your own device" plan. Very few are truly unlimited, the home internet plans are the best bang for your buck if you need at home 1TB/mo data.
Hi Nate... FYI for cell phone; "Pda Net APK" with partner PC APP; also required "Fox Fi" key for Pda Net... Thx for much info on TMO WiFi internet! We sometimes use Samsung's (cell phone) DEX connected to our TV to watch Netflix, Paramount+, Hulu, etc..
@@MrRuss58 ...yup app said that to me too, but works (Samsung A10e, 4g LTE)... Essential to use the Fox Fi key app too for continous un-interupted internet.
Nate, I realize this is an older video. However, with the Elsys Amplimax Ultra 5g finally beginning to hit the US market, I was wondering if you may be planning a review? I know you mentioned the 5g unit coming down the road in this video. Peter Carcione has done a review on the 5g unit and it's very impressive. However, you live much more rural, like I do, and it would be cool to see you do a review, too. Understood if not, though.
@@NaterTater I see that you picked one up and have a review debuting today. Looking forward to the video. My Amplimax 5g Ultra has been fantastic so far.
Great video! I had a question, I currently have a raspberry pi running a cat 4 4g LTE Pcie modem. I have it on verizon but since i live on a hill my signal is about 60%(30down10up). You mentioned the device in the video can search for all signals and give an idea of which carrier is best. I think I’ll now look into trying to run something like that. Looking to get most bang for the buck, either high cat modem or going 5g or bigger antenna.
It seems nice from the video but another way to predict your speed with a carrier is your cell phone, coverage maps, and a friend on another carrier. Im on redpocket, under my tower i can hit 120-150, at my house 2-3 miles down the road i get 12mbs-20mbs on band 12 , if i move the same router to a corner of my house or the north side , inside of the garage then i can get a 4g signal of 3 bars but 72mbs down and 12 up on 4g due to being on band 66 , and some others, I bought a bunch of equipment and antennas and just like realestate.. location , location, I have known for sometime that tmobile, and verizon have me in a black hole. 1 bar of 4g at best... ATT 5 bars. bars are not equal. i can have 5 bars on band 12 and get 12-20mbs. I can have 3 bars on band 66 and get 72mbs down.. i even found out that some of the 4g modems do not always have the same bands for some reason. so one will use b4 and another took it off and doesnt have band 4, both open and unlocked routers... Then i found out that the reason that external antennas are so important is that if you have 5 bars you may do ok on the right band... BUT, the antenna boosts the send and receive and it can make your speed faster and ping times lower.. even with 5 bars... ITs almost like 5 bars is to show your call signal but not a guarantee of data speed and througput..... i use the app called network cell info... 100 is minimum but you will never get a perfect signal... by that i mean the indicator all the way over in the green below 50.....
My setup is my visible wireless phone hotspot is repeated by a mango router. I also have ethernet to my Linux computer from the mango router. It has been working very well.
If I understand this correctly the Elsys is only a cat 4 lte device. Would i be better off putting a Netgear Nighthawk M1 (cat 16) in an outdoor enclosure powered by POE and maybe a decent mimo antenna. Hope you can explain or maybe do a vidoe on this. Thanks
Hey, Ed! You can install a video camera on Amplimax via cloud server. Connect an IP camera directly to the POE, or through an Ethernet router to install a larger number of cameras. Another possibility is the use of DVR. In this case, you can use amplimax or dvr ddns itself, provided that the carrier provides a public IP address. 💙🚀 Check more out here: amplimax.elsys.com/
Great content Nate, from what i have read the modem in that router has limited band support. It would be nice to be able to add your own modem. I really like the Quectel modems for magic and band locking carrier aggregation.
Yes that is true, I list the bands in the video description and there are more alternatives that are more capable but also more complicated to setup. Peplink and Quectel are good units if you know how to work them.
Hey there! 💙With a high sensitive multiple antenna Amplimax has up to 5X more range compared to typical 4G LTE USB modems. Check more out here: amplimax.elsys.com/ 🚀
Hi Nate, I really would like to purchase the ELSYS but here in the mountains I verily getting 2 bar in VZ and 1 bar Tmobile. I have talked to both providers and either provide has faster internet. Is there any other suggestion you might have? Thanks
2 bars is plenty for good speeds. More important than bars is which band you get. If you get the Elsys (or any other device/antenna) make sure you place it outside and high to try to find the best signal.
@@NaterTater Thanks Nate! I read on other website that it only comparable with At&t and T-Mobile. Where TM only gets 1 bar. I dont now if I should give it a try but I am so much in a need of internet for work. Thank you
Thank you for another great video. Can I simply use my T Mobile Home Internet Simm by simply pluging it in and getting connected or do I have to call T Mobile and have them add the device? Thanks. gg
@@NaterTater I removed the sim card from my ASKEY verizon modem, but the card had 5G on it. The card was recognized for a second but then it wasn't. Now it will not see it at all.
@@NaterTater I did not. I didn't think the Elsys device was capable of 5G. I was about to see the signal strengths like you did on yours and it showed that Verizon was like 75%. Is updating the APN just a setting in the system?
I wish AT&t would bring back their unlimited helmet internet well I guess it was called the nighthawk hotspot it was like a hundred bucks a month and you truly had unlimited data I wish I would have kept it was like 800 GB a month that I was using at the time and for most part my signal was pretty good but unfortunately they don't have any of these options T-Mobile's not available in my area Verizon is but without home internet service provided at my address and both AT&t and Verizon are both 1 mi away from where I live
Hey Mark, thanks for watching and commenting. You're right typically signal strength on cellular (or wireless in general) is shown in dB or dBm but in this case for the Amplimax the signal is a 0-99% read out with 99% being the highest.
