I did my first "self" tattoo last night. Came out well. First time on real skin. Used your video series to do a lot of the prep work, fake skins practice, lining, shading, gray wash, etc. Still working locally with shops trying to establish an apprenticeship. Continuing to draw, paint, pen and ink stuff, work on flash, practicing with my light board for stencils etc. Keep up the great channel. appreciate it.
Congrats on making your first tattoo and its great to hear it turned out well!! 🤘🤘 And im happy to hear the channel has been able to help you out and get you started. Also it sounds like you are on the right track by trying to find an apprenticeship and continuing to work on your portfolio and art skills. Keep it up and Keep Rocking you got this!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I just have to say BRAVO man.... I've been doing tattoos for almost 20 years been to acouple hundred conventions and after watching this video you by far are now one of my favorite artists. Your technique using that mag and the skill that you have laying in the greys and shading giving it depth was top notch and the way the buildings came together in the backround was just phenomenal, I had no idea it was going to look like judging from the stencil. Absolutely beautiful keep up the work bro and don't ever stop you have and eye that only acouple in the world EVER had. your are destined for greatness...
I am SO glad I came across your videos. I'm a 18 yr old young artist and I don't want to go to school FOREVERR to learn how to tattoo. Like I JUST graduated I'm not trying to go back. I'm a fast learner nd you seem to go over everything a girl needs to know in your videos. Thank You :)
I tattooed my leg a few years ago. I can confirm that your leg/hip/ass will hurt more than the tattoo. Take breaks and stand up to let the blood flow again. Took me a few weeks to get feeling back to normal. No joke!
You said it perfectly !!! Cause the pain of the position really does hurt more then the tattoo and yep it takes a couple of weeks to get the leg feeling normal again. Its for that reason I am slow to get back at it and finish it up lol!
Another awesome start to what's gonna be a great tattoo. Can I ask which is the best carbon paper to use when creating a template? I'm sure you've probably said before but I'm totally having a blonde moment!😩🤪
One of the few tattooists who is man enough to admit to tattooing yourself 😂 most just do it anyways then have the audacity to claim otherwise and that you should NEVER do it lmao
Thank you sooo much Ashley!!! GLad you enjoyed the video! And I love tattooing myself lol it saves me money and its just fun... well minus the hip pain lol!! Thanks again Ashley appreciate the support!! Keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘🤘
I tattooed myself quite a few times. I figured better to mess up on myself and fix it later. Luckily I never really made anything bad! And now I get clients by just going to bars and talking about my tats
Just stumbled upon your channel a couple of days ago and I love what you're doing. I've done a few stick and pokes on myself and I ordered a machine yesterday to take myself to the next level. So many tattoo artists online are honestly kind of pretentious in that they refuse to help newbies. Thank you for putting up this resource for us just starting out, you're saving us from making a lot of mistakes that wouldn't only leave us or other people with some bad ink but can also be dangerous with infection and cross contamination. I honestly don't ever see myself making a career as a tattoo artist just because my artistic talent isn't really there, but I think it'll be a fun hobby to design and execute my own tats for stuff that's simple enough to not need a professional, plus it's a hell of a lot cheaper than paying a shop minimum every time I want something small lol
Thank you Troy I really appreciate the support man. 👍 I just want to wish you the best of luck as you start down this journey. Whether you’re doing it for personal use or to make a living tattooing is an awesome experience and I’m happy to share that with anybody who wants to learn. Thanks again Troy appreciate the support and keep rockin🤘🤘🤘
These videos will help for years to come. I was just having issues saturating black on my chest & came back to watch this video again & was immediately able to start again & get the ink to go in perfectly. Even used the kwadron 30/11SEMLT carts.
That is AWESOME!!!! to hear Graffics. Really does make me happy to know that these vids are going to be able to help people for years to come. I'm glad the vid got you on track and that the ink went in good for you. Thanks again for the continued support my friend!!! 🤘🤘🤘🙏🙏🤘🤘🤘
i plan on tattooing the St. Louis Cathedral in new orleans on the direct front of my leg right above my foot. even though it'll be the 15th tattoo i've done on myself, wish me luck. i dig the fact that you did a military themed tattoo as you said in early videos that you were in the military so i figured id do something meaningful to myself as well.
I started tattooing myself in July and with practice and your channel I've completed 10 tattoos that I'm very happy with. Planning the next one for this weekend!!
THanks Toosie!!! Yeah the hip can really start to hurt after a while lol, but I guess thats part of the fun/process lol!! I havent gotten the drawing done for my other leg but it will be happening some time soonish (if I get time again that is lol). Thanks again brother always appreciate your support!!! 🤘🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething appreasheat you and the time u take and detail in your videos and self explaining everything to your knowalage. Keep on 🎸. Ps check your fb sent pictures of shirt
Just to clarify, because I don't think you covered this (maybe I missed it). Running the mag sideways means rotating the machine so that you are using the corner of the needle, not moving the needle side to side. That can really tear up the skin and cause some nasty scaring.
My tattoo machines come in the mail on monday of the up coming week. I bought a tattoo kit by dragonhawk off amazon and all the supplies listed in your preparation video. I am so excited to start tattooing, I have been drawing for years and have gotten 8 tattoos done so far. Your videos are such a big help to someone new to the culture.
I been following u , and watching ur videos for a while now . My wife got me a tat kit for Christmas , hopefully it' has a great out come . Thanks to u , I feel ready for this practice journey
Buddy, awesome work! Thanks for the tips and tricks. I love your video's, they are so detailed. Learning so much from it! Keep up the good work ✌️👍👍🤘🤘🤘
Hey man, I really love your videos, I bought my first tattoo gun a couple of weeks ago so I’m really new to this, I don’t suppose you could do an in depth video on different types of needles and their best uses? I know a lot of artists have favourite sizes for certain things, I’d love to know yours, keep up the good work man, you’re teaching me a lot!
Thats awesome Maurice, congrats on your second year of your apprenticeship! Tattooing yourself is always a great way to practice and see how things heal. And thank you for the support its very much appreciated!! Keep Rocking my friend!!🤘 🤘
Am currently working on tattoo to tattoo myself and just started to tattoo and your videos are the most helpful and help me get to the point to help me tattoo myself thank you
Your a magician when it comes to using that mag as a liner ! Been trying that technique over and over since I seen how well you use it . Your dead right about your legs and hip being more sore than the tattoo ! Jesus Christ I think I’m going to be walking around like hunchback of Notre Dame before I get done with my legs or the hang of it to tattoo other people 😂 🧑🏼🦽 as always man your videos are the best , all of us out here appreciate the videos more than ya know ! Still think if you shaved you’d be a mortal tattoo artist like the rest of us 💪🏼😂 I keep trying to comment when your live to harass ya lol but somehow miss it every time . THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE ALSO 💪🏼 Keep rocking brother Keep playing those good tunes too .
I sooo appreciate you taking time out to do all of these videos on your channel. I can imagine it’s pretty hectic sometimes or even all the time trying to juggle the videos and tattooing and your days off and all. Your videos are awesome and I recommend you to everyone I talk to who is just starting out! And I watch you religiously. You’re just awesome bro, thank you.
Wow Lindsy thank you sooo much for the kind words!!! Im happy to make these vids for those who want to learn and are looking for a way in life. It is a lot of work and at times more then I can handle but its worth it and I truly appreciate your support!!! Keep at it and Keep Rocking!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🙏🤘🤘🤘
The Tatt came out fire . 🔥💯 Reminds me of the toy soldiers i used to play with when i was a kid. Lol (nostalgia) So far im practicing on fixing my arm that was already done by my cousin when he first started tattoing but im learning to fix my own half sleeve as practice before i move on n do a big piece on myself. your videos really helping me to figure this out. I appreciate you!
Thank you so much pink I really really appreciate that🤘🤘👍🙏 it’s always best to practice on yourself learn and make mistakes before tattooing others. So it’s great to hear you’re working out the details on yourself and I wish you the best of luck as you continue down this awesome journey!! Keep rocking🤘🤘🤘
Art-Something this means A lot coming from you! i will perfect the technique !Keep the content coming bcuz we need people like you to keep making the difference , thank you again!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🎨✨
Killer tattoo Dave, nothing better than offering up your own flesh to do a vid on informing others. Yes you are correct holding leg that way is more uncomfortable than getting the tatto. Tc brother keep up the great work
That’s a big piece to run on yourself! I’ve done a few on my legs, one on an arm. The legs suck, there’s no way to be comfy and get the angle, or so it seems. I get so involved in the work I don’t realize how numb I’ve gone til I’m done. Don’t be afraid of taking breaks!
Thats awesome im 14 and looking into tattooing when older did one on my dad wasn't bad but was. like how u did the video for no distraction thats smart, and great edvice keep going and have fun tattooing.
currently binge watching all of your videos before my tattoo kit and fake skin comes in! i love your videos, theyre super insightful and informative and i cant wait to put your tips and tricks to the test in a couple of days :)
Been doing multiple tattoos on myself, of varying quality. Your videos helped a lot with my line work! I've learned so much. Side note: I have done only linework and basically operate on a principal of being able to cover them if I end up not liking them 😅. Also I like the incorporation of the old tattoo
Smart of you to stick with line work for a while and get comfortable with that before pushing on to to other techniques as line work is the foundation. Keep working hard and Keep Rocking! 🤘🤘
i''ve just start to make my own leg too,its very strange feeling because you hand need to be still but the pain is shakes you...and after hours back pain is unbelievable :)
Thank you soo much Shift!! Really appreciate that my friend!! I wish you the best of luck as you continued down this journey!!! Keep at it and Keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘🤘
Brother I literally just tattooed my left inside calve and I had my foot up over on the right leg area . Tattoo came out beautiful ! But my god my age is showing! I’m so broken and sore lol my right leg is swollen from the weight of my foot resting on it . My left hip and all the tissue connected to that socket is very tender today ! Lol I feel your pain brother ! Keep up these awesome videos
HAAH yeah brother I was racked out for a whole day after this, just letting my body recover lol! So yeah I feel like my body isnt as nimble as it use to be lol!! Hope you recover well Devin and thanks for the support brother!! 🤘🤘🤘
I’m so excited to finally practice! I’m getting my first machine next month but I’ll stick to fake and pig skin for the first weeks. Loving your tutorials, greetings from Germany!
Bro wow, badass!! I did a sleeve on my left arm. I am apparently moving backwards to my legs now 🤔 great job though i would feel privileged to have a tat done by you my good man. Keep rockin!!
Yeah Dave, I agree with kay-dee's comment fully. Your videos are always informative and interesting to watch. Your approach and running commentary are great, and I'm always learning more, or feeling encouraged that what I'm doing is right. Keep them coming, looking forward to seeing more. PEACE.
Loving your videos my artist actually just gave me my first coil machine and encourage me to get a start your videos have been very informative and i really appreciate the simplicity of your explications keep on rockin man youve been a great help
Salute brother. I love Patriotic tattoos, I am just starting out tattooing and plan on making patriotic style my specialty. Are you a Veteran, if so then thank you for your service, I greatly appreciate you.
I’ve done my first tattoo on my thigh, it turned out GREAT! Big Lego dinosaur with beautiful line work! Healed up beautifully! Love it! I’m officially wanting to fill in a space on my non dominant upper inner arm. My only reservation about tattooing my own arm is the stretching of the skin. Every video I’ve watched of people tattooing their own arm aren’t stretching the skin. I’ve read about people using tape? Not sure how effective that would be… Any tips on this? Have you tattooed your own arm? I suppose if I can’t get a comfortable and firm hold on it I’ll have to have someone else do it cause there’s no way I feel comfortable enough to tattoo on Unstretched skin. Just doing some research before I make my decision. Thanks!
I’ve watch all ya vids Dave, awesome. Been tattooing 4 months now, got my own little shop. I like putting all the black in first after watching you. Tattooed my own legs first it’s a weird experience 😂😂 keep em coming.
Dude keep up the great work I’m looking forward to watching more videos from this channel. Just did my first two tattoos in one day. Thanks to your videos have me the courage. Now I’m pretty damn sure I’m addicted. Already can’t sleep and keep looking at different designs. I need to learn to use a mag and color fill the tats now. Yeah baby!!
Dang that’s horrible man. I don’t think you watched enough of my videos as we always advise against that. Start with fake skin then your skin and after a long while others skin. But I guess some people just live and learn.
again, best educational tattoo channel ive found by far. The thought crossed my mind when you used the magnum as a liner, do people ever use magnums(not curved) the same way you would use a wide nib or broad marker to do black-letter calligraphy(the kind where u hold it at 45 and use that angle to change the thickness of your lines)? it always seemed like the ideal solution to me, but I have only seen people line and fill stuff like that.
Great videos my friend! Iv learned a huge amount just watching your stuff, really relaxed teaching method Thank you for the content and for your service!
compliment; smooth! from your outline to shade-washing this is a useful video, thank you! stretching before, during break times & after a tattoo sitting assists in limber joints and good circulation! may i ask you, what's the longest sitting you have done as canvas and as artist?? tia
Hey brother I am a marine here in okinawa who just started tattooing, your videos inspired me to start and I am happy with the progress I made so far I have some questions for you and I was wondering if I could reach out to you personally for your input regarding place ment and other stuff for a tattoo a friend wants please let me know
First.. love this tattoo! Air Assault! That detail is epic. Second, hats off to you! I decided to do a tattoo on myself in the same spot and I hear you about the hip... I finished up my outline and still haven't finished shading because of that issue 🤦♀️😂🤷♀️
Thank you Danielle really appreciate that. And I know what you mean as I need to get back at it and get the second session done on my leg but the pain of having my leg in that position is just not something I want to do just yet lol. But at least you have the outline done as you can always go back and shade it whenever you feel like being in pain again lol. Thanks again for the support Danielle and keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘🤘
Ive been watching your videos and just recently my artist gave me the items needed to tattoo and i put my first tat on myself its not perfect but ita definitely a solid piece thanks to his advice and yours i successfully put a pretty solid tat on my leg thank you
Thats really cool to hear Anthony glad that your artist hooked you up with what you needed. And congrats on making your first tattoo. And the first one usually isnt perfect but as long as your happy with it and learned from it then your on the right track!! Keep at it and Keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘🤘
Anytime bro!!! You've taught me and obviously so many others so much and your comments have always been very helpful!!! Your my teacher and its appreciated!!!
Just the video I think I needed to see lol, I was ready to go from practice skins to my leg but felt discouraged a few days ago. I'm feeling more confident again after doing another skin. Just gotta feel 100% ready. BTW been using my CNC Q2 for about a week now and man its made a world of a difference.
In Victoria, Australia we are in heavy lockdown and I feel like I'd like to tattoo myself, which brings me here and I gotta say you rock, thanks a bunch! Just finished your beginner vid, was Fab, love how your head isn't up your butt, you are chill and DTE cheers from down under!
Just when i was curious about shading and everything this video came up! Great content and explaining the needle uses and everything in detail damn... I'm in a learning process and your channel is really useful. Greetings from Greece keep the great content coming!
I just did my own calf last night, I now know that feeling……LOL…..staying in the position was worse than the tattoo itself…..Mine wrapped toward the back which was quite difficult to twist into a position to get the right angle to get it right. Wanted to color it in but couldn’t stay in that position any longer, did the black work and some color accents, will fill in color another time… BTW - great videos, learning so much great info and lessons here…keep them coming!
I absolutely love this channel, I've found it not only extremely insightful and informative, but also inspiring on many occasions. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for taking the time to make these videos. Now, all that said, my ONLY gripe.. and I hesitate to even mention it, but damn.. this music is fucking horrible. Other than that I'm a huge fan and am truly grateful to you.
Ayyyy my dude!! I got rid of my RU-vid months ago and only just found your channel again! You had about 10k subs then, awesome to see how much your channel has grown!! Congrats man!! Wicked video too! I just got some more ink for father's day, now I got some more tips so cheers for that!! Look out leg here I come haha And excellent music as always 🤘
Thanks Nooba!! And yeah the channel really has grown in a short amount of time. Great to see so many people who love tattooing to come together to help each other out!! 🤘🤘 Congrats on the new ink man!!! Keep at it and Keep Rocking!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Cool tat can’t wait to see the finally finish of it.. how’s that CNCQ2 holding so far I heated that it has a fake faulhaber motor smh but I don’t believe that still getting one keep up the amazing videos one of the best tattoo artist youtuber.
Thank you sooo much Franklin!! The CNCQ2 has been holding up great! I have been using it exclusively since I got it and have had no problems so far. IDK about the motor thing but for me its a solid machine. Thanks again Franklin and thank you soo much for the kind words and support!! Keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘🤘
Art-Something I have a question watch brand of cartridge needles do you use? And can you make a video on your cartridge needles and what’s your favorite brand and why?
I had an old school tattoo artist to tell me years ago, "He who tattoos himself has a fool for a client". He was a good artist, I have a few from him. I like the copter work.
Awesome man I'm working on my tattoo apprenticeship right now working on a portfolio Just found out recently that my wife's cousin has a tattoo shop about 20 min away and as a favor if he likes my portfolio he'll take me on thanks for the inspiration!!!!
That's soooo nice! Love that tatt! I know what you mean when you're talking about the position! I did one at the same place. The hip, the knee and the lower back... It's like, i'm gonna die! 😅😂 (It's still an unfinished light house). Hahaha
As an avid watcher and recent decided machine purchaser lol I'm curious of something. I've read and heard many times a mag sideways essentially turns into a knife, then this fella here basically lines his tattoo with one 🤔 is the "knife thing" simply hearsay or due to pressure? Just curious as to it could be a handy skill to develope eventually. Love the content, you were made to teach this stuff!🤘😎🤘
Dave!! Yer the man. This piece is metal af. As always thanks for your hard work brother🤜🤛 your an inspiration my friend. Side story: i listen to alot of your vids at work first then rewatch at home to see your technique. On your wolf video i was jammin out so hard when you started talking again i was like "wait what?" Totally forgot about what i was actually listening too. Epic tunes make for an epic sesh. Keep on rockin🤘🤘
