Thanks for the update. Great knife, I have a few of these , carbon and stainless. Tip : Warm up the sheath with a hair dryer and squeeze it at the opening some, and let it cool , then it clicks in better. I like the Leather one way more. Too bad they don't sell it separately yet. I'll speak from 2 years of personal use for folks that swing by....The 14C28N takes a great edge and is actually pretty easy to sharpen not much difference than 1095HC IMO. I actually had more issues with my Companion HD carbon than I have with my Garberg with rolls and dings. That being said there are a couple things that bug me about the Garberg, the edge depth and angle. The Garberg in my opinion is way to abrupt, the scamdi is to thick and starts way to late for how thick the knife is. The knife was designed to be a survival/bushcraft so it does well with abuse honestly its almost indestructible but that comes with a price you lose lots of slicing ability for those smaller tasks. Another issue for me personally as a whittle junky I prefer the edge styles of knives like the Enzo Elver and Mora Bushcraft Black with a nice point and less belly. If you have skills enough to reprofile the Garberg it would make a great convex knife like the Bark River Bushcrafter, there is enough steel and edge size to make it work. I gave mine a scandivex and the edge holds up great but there really isn't a need for all that weight BUT if ya want a beast that's not gonna break its a great knife.
Is carrying 3 knives... and heavy ones at that, a practical option? I'm a hiker and the idea of taking along 3 knives seems like madness. Bit whatever floats your boat.
The all around knife really doesn't exist. There is always a trade of with any tool. For hiking probably this isn't the right knife, because the main goal of hiking is taking the path of least resistance to get through point A to point B, not really processing wood. Of course it is nice to have tools for that in case of necessity or emergency. In my case for hiking I use a Victorinox Hiker, and never had failed me; I'm not saying this is the best tool for hiking but the important thing is that it works for me.
He's, I did confirm that he has not tried to sharpen it. He also didn't use it for things like batoning. However it is his primary knife so it was used quite a lot. But he purchased it to be part of his military kit. So while it did get heavily used it was used more differently than a bushcrafer would.
Not much, however I never tried to hide that fact. In this video I made it clear that I was relaying his opinions and adding my observations when I inspected the knife.
