Nothing like getting to work early and finding a Jimmy DiResta video waiting to be watched. That is seriously badass and an unbelievably elegant solution all rolled into one. Thank you Jimmy!
I just want to say thank you for your videos, you remind me a lot of my father, always a project going on and always something to learn. A carpenter for 30 years, he taught me everything I know about working with my hands. The only time i've ever seen a repair man in the house was a water heater install, other than that, my dad worked his ass off and worked more after, still somehow finding the time to cook and clean at the end of the day. Those are great memories, and you are part of what helps me feel like he's still around.
+jimmydiresta SELL THIS! You could make money off these if you could find a way to mass produce them on the cheap (try to keep it in North America though if you can).
Absolutely love this combination of a proper blade and a multi tool. Leathermans tend to have a tiny blade made of soft steel, but this is a great way to eliminate that problem. Keep up the good work!
Jimmy, as amateur bladesmith I can tell you: is one of the best ideas I've seen in my live, obviuously isn't as strong as a full tang knife, but neither is for battoning and wasting jobs, this join is stronger than many folding knives and those are used for skinning hunting and common tasks, don't pay attention about "not full tang, no real knife" geeks
at first i had my doubts about this build, but it came together nicely. its good to see someone building stuff, its becoming a lost art in this country, doing things with your hands.
I love how you melded these two objects together. One of my favorites out of your many creative projects. Not because I am a knife guy, but because of the thought process you displayed in making it. I love the menagerie of techniques for fabricating items that you constantly display. Everything from smelting to kerfing, vacuum forming to hydraulic pressing leather. Please keep doing what you do.
Amazing art and craftmanship! I already loved the first version of this knife and I love and appreciate that you took it even one more step forward and created this stunning knife.
I don't normally post comments on youtube videos (though I subscribe to a lot of maker oriented channels), but I just had to. That is freaking genius. I want one. I don't know how I'd live without my leatherman skeletool! :-)
You sir are a true artisan in your field. I honestly don't comment on a lot of RU-vid videos but videos like this are quite inspirational and deserve everyone's attention. People like you, with immense creativity and skill, are often overlooked in today's society. Thank you so much for sharing! Please keep up this amazing work!
Jimmy- I'm 17 and I live in Los Angeles, and I started building furniture (tables/lamps/etc) because of stumbling upon your videos about two years ago. I have seen every one of your youtube videos a solid 3 times at least, and watched every hammered episode/against the grain/ everything I could find online. I have made a lot of things via inspiration from your different projects, and would not have a shop at home/ have started woodworking without seeing your stuff. I saw your brother at the Fairfax flea market this past weekend and asked him a question, but I don't think he really knew the answer. I was just wondering how long each one of your projects takes? For example the Coffin or the different tables. Love your videos, and about to go try and build something now!
if you're not listening to the "making it" podcast with Jimmy Diresta and David Picciuto(aka the drunken woodworker) you're missing out - They talk shop all the time and Jimmy usually answers frequently asked questions... there's also a nerdist podcast with the same title - just google for making it diresta podcast - that'll do ya
Way to go, Jimmy! I absolutely love your creativity, not just in coming up with new ideas, but also your creative techniques. Thank you so much for sharing your work with everyone.
I'm emailing the Woodcraft product managers to let them know that the Which blade is By FAR the coolest implementation of a Woodriver blade blank to date. The version 2.0 is rather splendid too. You, sir, are the epitome of "maker".
jimmydiresta I really enjoy watching the building process you go through with these, if someone were to send yoj materials to make one of these custom multitool knives would you fabricate one for that person?
I feel like i've been missing so much by just discovering your channel today, This project made me smile so much, thank you good sir! Your table saw skills were frightening to watch in the first few videos i saw, but by the 6th or so i could see you're safe and very comfortable with using the best tool for the job, This is very inspiring to me and i'm gonna have to try it out. Looking forward to new videos!
Then how about' you become one of the next sir, if your not already? The world is always in need of more, craftsmen that is, exspecially in this day, and age.
just started watching your videos, thank you for what you do...big inspiration man....I'm an artist and a maker too, just so awesome to see what you create! btw, I would totally buy this knife!!
I am thoroughly impressed. You've shown a great deal of ingenuity in producing such a streamline tool enhancement. Watching your videos makes me deeply regret not spending time with my dad in his shop when I was growing up (too busy playing video games and failing to impress girls than to learn machinist/mechanic/carpentry skills). Please keep the videos coming.
I saw this once when it came out then watched your speech about your life and watched it again and was totally amazed..... Again. Great job! really inspiring your videos are.
The first which blade is cool from a sculpting point of view. This one though? Way more practical. I really like this one. I would patent that shit and sell it to the highest bidder.
Once again an awesome project. One of the best RU-vid channels there is......PERIOD. My favorite part of this video is at the very end when you smash both nice and in the worktable. Awesome
Man I have been following your work for a long time. Not just anybody can do what you do. Sure anybody can go buy tools, supplies, etc but what you turn this stuff into is pure genius. I have got to find a way for my 10 yr old to meet you sometime. He gets inspired by other people's creations and that is good thing. Keep up the Awesome work!
dude this is so much better than the first one. like i thought the first one was awsome, but the design and efficiency of this one just makes the other one look flea market status while this one would be locked in a display on a spinning plate. a true evolution sir. I commend you
Jimmy I love your "No bullshit, just get it done" approach to all of your projects. As always well done :). The machinist in me loves watching your videos.
Among the most inspiring and totally hypnotic channels on the web. You're amazing. Keep it up and thanks for sharing. Great, great stuff, and equally thoughtful and meticulous presentation. Makes me feel that perfect combination of inspired and dispirited (that I'm not doing anything close haha), that feeling which only the coolest stuff produces.
First one looked like a kooky but cool idea, second one is badass but can clearly see the development ideas coming out - really can't wait for the third one Jimmy - you inspire the creativity in me!
Mad Genius!!!!!! I love watching the video and saying to myself, "Were is he going with this?" and then all of a sudden, "OOhhhh.....yup, this guys the shit!" So impressive. Great job man.
I've been watching and enjoying and been inspired to Make by many of Mr Diresta's videos... This one pushed me over to the Subscriber status. Thank you sir.
I thought you were on to something with the hand version. Now I totally KNOW YOUR ON TO SOMETHING. something I would consider buying. Love it Jimmy. Keep up the good work.
Jimmy those are two great videos you 've done with the knives....i've been learning a great amount on tool usage since i found ur videos some 10 months ago.. u are an inspiration man. Thanks
I definitely like the idea of having the multi-tool being the hilt of the which blade II, but i like the overall look of the which blade III quite a bit. In any case, great, great work! You are quite the craftsman. I envy your ability to work with metal.
I like this idea. The attachment point seems more elegant and there is an actual locking mechanism on the tool in this revision. Can't wait to see what you come up with for the next one. Maybe in spirit of the multi-tool, figure out a way to add more functionality to the bayonet clip, possibly some kind of socket wrench.
hey jim what was the original purpose of the little foot thing on the knife before you retro fit it to be the locking mechanism on ghe which blade? cool how that being there worked in your advantage .
who the heck takes 2 perfectly good tools and hacks them up to make 1 awesome tool. this guy. the witch blades you made are awesome. I love them. you my friend are a true artist. keep up the work.
