New here and really enjoying your channel! Wanted to let you know that when I tried to sign up for the newsletter, I received an error code. I can send a pic of the screen if you want, just let me know where - and when to try again! 😀 Also, just because I have that proofreading gene LOL, when I was sharing the link to your site with a friend, the subject auto-filled and I noticed you spelled it ‘advise’ instead of advice. Forgive me for my nerd tendencies and glad to have found your channel!

@@leapintothewild oh no thanks for letting us know! Feel free to email us with your name and email and we'll get you signed up. We'll take a look and see why it's sending an error code. Do you have a VPN on? Sometimes that will give an error code. Thanks for the heads up on the typo!

just found your channel. I saw you guys on Warren and Julies channel. Great information. I am retired and so far I travel for 3 months at a time and I am inching towards traveling 6 months at a time. I do have a house on airbnb, and thankfully it pays for itself.

Make sure you have BOTH electronic and printed copies of all documents - debit/credit cards (front and back), passport, driver’s license, vaccination/medical records, travel documents, membership cards, emergency contacts. If you can’t access the electronic version, you’ll still have a printed copy as a back-up.
@TheWanderingHartz
@TheWanderingHartz 3 месяца назад
Yes indeed! This is what I meant by all documents 😀

@@anniesshenanigans3815 we keep the most important papers and the rest as digital copies. Including extra copies of passport photos incase they are needed for visa applications. This includes the digital file incase we need to print more.

Make sure you have multiple forms of payment from different sources. Not just different accounts, but different financial institutions. If one source is compromised or closes, you’ll have other ways to pay. I have debit and credit cards from two banks plus a Wise currency transfer card. And I still take a large amount of cash with me, just in case all else fails!

I enjoy your content very down to earth slow travel is perfect for the middle class to see the world type attitudes. Boy that was a mouth full. 🤣 😅😊 Great list. How about 24 travel hacks to do in 2024 and beyound. 1. Become shareholders in cruise lines to get great perks for repositioning cruises. Share minimum involved. 2 Get north facing cabins on trans-oceanic repositioning cruises. Etc.

Thanks! Omg for sure! We could add to win the lottery or start a business and have it acquired for a handsome sum... You'll have to tell us about the cruises 🛳 we haven't been on one yet.
@livingworkingoutsidebox
@livingworkingoutsidebox 3 месяца назад
@@TheWanderingHartz Love it. Here's an example for cruise line shareholders. Carnival Cruise Lines shareholders who own at least 100 shares of Carnival Corporation or Carnival Plc can receive onboard credit for their cruises. The amount of credit depends on the length of the cruise, as follows: 14 days or longer: $250 per stateroom 7-13 days: $100 per stateroom Current share price is around $15.00 if you use a cruise line for repositioning or as part of your trave and stay itineraries enough over X time, do those perks etc help you have a more enjoyable experience? Do you see their stock increasing in value over time? Do you prefer to keep the stock or sell it after the cruise? If you are planning on using a repositioning cruise what perks does that cruise line offer to share holders? What's their minimum share number? Current stock price? So a $250 cruise credit is just over a 16% gain off $1500.+- How many times a year would you use the repositioning cruise? 1 transatlantic 1 transpacific... As always looking forward to your next video. 👍🌞

Wow, never even considered a scenario like that! You should make a video about this. This is far outside our wheelhouse, we have yet to take our first cruise 😏

I will be getting a house sitter.. Easy in this area since its SWFL and everyone wants to live here for some reason, even though it's really expensive. Possibly do a housing swap with someone wanting to come here from a place that I want to go!! After traveling for work in 2021 and 2022 I have done most of these things.. need to tweak a few for international travel.
@TheWanderingHartz
@TheWanderingHartz 2 месяца назад
That sounds like a good plan. We've spent time in the Tampa St. Petersburg area and really enjoyed it. But yeah, it is not cheap! We even stayed at a 55+ RV park one fall! Haven't yet edited those videos, though 🙄, maybe one day I will find the time!

I was planning on using a power strip like you and thought I had it all figured out until your video. What power strip do you use that works 110-240 volts. Thanks 😊
@TheWanderingHartz
@TheWanderingHartz 2 месяца назад
Here is the powerstrip we use NtonPower Travel Power Strip amzn.to/47B4OD8 (our amazon link). We like to plug this into whatever local plug, ie. europe type-c, etc., and it gives us 4 outlets plus 3 USB's and a 4ft cord. It is lightweight and compact too! I have been using it for the last 1.5 years. Thanks for watching!

Question.... How do you deal with HARD beds while traveling? I took a trip to Panama in 2021, stayed in 4 different places and they all had pretty hard beds. Do you have a video about it?
@TheWanderingHartz
@TheWanderingHartz 2 месяца назад
Excellent question! We don't have a video about it as of now. We have had our share of hard beds over the years. My quick answer is that we start by asking the host for a foam topper/pad. If that doesn't work, then we try using any extra blankets as padding. In some cases, it may end up buying a foam topper if it is available in the location. Finally, we consider any other remedy via rental platform or leaving if it is not much of a financial burden.

How do you avoid over packing when you are going to different climates, eg Thailand and Scotland.
@TheWanderingHartz
@TheWanderingHartz 2 месяца назад
Oh great question. Firstly we try to plan travel to similar climates and bring a few items that can be layered. We have found that you can also find coats and sweaters or the opposite, light wieght shirts and shorts to purchase as well. Second hand stores make good options for these purchases as they are inexpensive and you can donate the clothes back if no longer needed. Perhaps we should make a video about this?
@anniesshenanigans3815
@anniesshenanigans3815 2 месяца назад
@@TheWanderingHartz definitely make a video!! ALSO, the things that you cannot take on a plane, such as cutlery or bulky things you would need in a hotel vs AirB*B like a bowl or plate. When I was traveling for work, and flying, I would stop at the dollar store and get a pr of Scissors, some useful cutlery, bowl, plate and paper towels, and any condiments that I cannot live without. It seldom cost much to get these items and I just left them behind when I was flying to the next destination. Same for things like house slippers, tshirts, scarves, sunglasses, cords, etc.. those things seem small, but they take up room in a small suitcase or backpack.
@TheWanderingHartz
@TheWanderingHartz 2 месяца назад
Great suggestions! We we often just purchase whatever is missing from our "necessities" list once we arrive in a place. We consider it part of the rent. On our current leg we will be bringing some along with us as we will be traveling mostly by ground which is a bonus.

VPN !! It’s important to have a vpn on all your devices to protect them when using WiFi, and esp important if you face two-factor authentication for your banks and credit cards. And be sure to check BEFORE you leave to see if their sites and apps will still work with a vpn, and/or see if you can set the authentication up for email verification instead of a text or phone call.
@TheWanderingHartz

VPN's are a good idea for public WiFi's. Good point, always make sure your apps work in your proposed scenario.

What do you do if it's your passport under 6 months. If you renew, will they just add time to your passport, and will you lose your ending time, if that makes sense.
@TheWanderingHartz
@TheWanderingHartz 2 месяца назад
If your passport is going to expire in 6 months you should to renew it unless your trip is in the next month or two and only for a short duration. We recommend doing so 6 months before it expires or before a long (30 day or more) trip. Renewing will make it valid for another 10 years (U.S.). I hope that helps, be sure to check out the official page travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/have-passport.html (if its a U.S. passport).
