To be honest, I 100% understand not wanting to give your precious characters flaws. That being said, I like to think of them flawlessly, hang on to that, but then ask myself "What development did they go through to be this person? When I think of my best qualities, what parts of myself did I have go work on to maintain or even learn to have that quality?" Considering the perfect version of them to be the person I'm using the story to work them into helps to keep me from feeling like I've ruined their image. Instead, I'm building it.

i like to use the “two sides of the same coin” method. it helps me when i have no ideas. plus, it’s great for making characters fight each other (i love ruining their friendships)

When you explained how you picture scenes in your head like a fully fleshed movie and these scenarios are often sad/emotionally intense, you are not alone! I honestly thought i was the only one making up scenarios with my characters from my story in my head like that! And even when I listen to music. I related so much because that's literally exactly my thought process of how i come up with some scenes for my story. In fact, it's the most fun and easy way, too! than having to squeeze ideas out of my brain when writing the episode scripts and my brain doesn't wanna cooperate. I literally jumped out of my couch, saying, "YES!!" When you explained how you come up with scenes in your head and how you visualize them as a full-on movie! I've never related so much to a fellow webcomic creator before! 🥹💜 I literally thought i was the only one, dude!😅 And can i just say? Your art looks so good! I love watching you draw, makes me wanna pick up the pen and draw as well💜 I am looking forward to more webcomic related videos! 😁 Sorry for the long ass paragraph...

This is my thought process as well. I always visualise in a third-person perspective, like I'm watching a or directing a movie, and no one else I know does the same.

It’s actually really cool to find someone else that thinks like I do with starting with a scene in their mind. I always felt weird saying it because I thought it’s not how anyone else does it, but my idea in creating my story has essentially been: Envision a specific high-impact scene -> note that scene -> write a plot to build to that scene that I envisioned. It makes it kinda exciting for me to build out the plot from that scene and gives me somewhere to develop a character towards.

The more you speak about your writing process the more I have faith in my own. I also prefer character driven stories, internal character driven conflict, starting with characters first and discovering their emotions and behaviors as plot points, as well as studying human behaviors and emotions to make stories and characters feel more realistic even in fantasy settings. For so long I thought this was wrong because my conflicts were minor slice of life ones, nothing drastic no bad guy to beat up, just characters fighting themself, and sometimes themself vs others expectations on them, or opinions. And It can be a hard thing to write because so many people see stories like this as less interesting if not done well, simply bc the conflict isn’t clear it’s more nuanced and if not drawn home i always worry that my stories can read as having no conflict or boring mundane conflict at best. But this gives me hope that I’m not wrong and instead on to something with my writing process, as it’s pretty much the same as yours.

The way you brainstorm ideas sounds very similar to my own creative process so this was a very helpful video for me. I worried about my story not having a strong enough conflict but the part about internal conflicts counting was reassuring! Lovely art as per usual.

Midway through the video, you’re kind of talking about the difference between authors who outline first, and authors who just go in and write a first a first draft, with minimal or no outline, just making edits later. I’m more of the type who makes an outline before writing, but yes it’s totally a thing to just go in and write your story without any outlining!

really really like your art! your review of the GBP360 convinced me to buy one as well, can i ask what screen protector did you end up using for your drawing sessions? using the wacom one pen is ultra slippery on the glass screen (and i don't really like the default s-pen) and ofc its very glossy and reflective

The one I got specifically is this: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07SXJYXRB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It has worked super well for me! I do think it shaves the pen a bit, but that's a pretty regular issue; I have to replace pen tips relatively frequently with the wacom stylus' as well.

I have a problem where I start off knowing what I want to do with the beginning of a story, writing that, then petering out as I become unsure of where I want to go next and then I stop. I gotta lay down the tracks more beforehand, and if I don’t want to do a whole outline then I at least have to plan ahead enough to give me enough time to think about the future and have some idea of what the ending is.
@danasa4994
@danasa4994 11 месяцев назад
It all revolves around motivation. So it's a good thing to always consider that. When you're stuck, you could just remind yourself to think.. "now what? What's motivating this charecter?? Why are they doing this? And what's the beeline they should take to get there" ..then you should probably proceed to put obstacles on that road. See how the conflict can both hinder them but also make them MORE determined and motivated to get to their goal. And it'd change them along the way in a way that SERVES the purpose and tone of the story. Good luck. Hope i haven't been to intrusive
